[Veritas-bu] Expiring images and tapes
Hi Guru's I ran into a situation that is new for me. For some reason duplicates received a expiration date that is much later as intended. Now as the expiration of the images, and tapes should occur, they stil have more than a year to go. So I want to expire them and use them again as scratch tapes. I tried som steps to expire them but I still don't have the result I want. Question what is the complete procedure to expire tapes which have active images ? Re: [Veritas-bu] FW: NB oracle hot backup script exited with the status code 1
You will need to look at the RMAN logs to determine the actual error. It is not passed to Netbackup. If you are using the templates provided with the Oracle Agent, they produce logs containing output from the RMAN scripts. They are stored in /usr/openv/netbackup/ext/db_ext/oracle/samples/rmans They are set up to save the RMAN script output = Carl Stehman IT Distributed Services Team Pepco Holdings, Inc. 202-331-6619 Pager 301-765-2703 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Asiye Yiğit [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent by: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 01/31/2007 06:00 AM To veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu cc Subject [Veritas-bu] FW: NB oracle hot backup script exited with the status code 1 Hi All, The oracle online backup is being finished with the status code 1 by NetBackup. So if you bpexpdate one tape, it should expire any copies on that tape. Does it do so? It will not expire copies of the same image on other tapes. You'd use the (-m MEDIA) option if you want a piece of media to be cleared, expiring any remaining images still on it. You'd use the (-backupid BACKUP_ID) option if you want all copies of an image on any tape to be expired. [Veritas-bu] Vault NDMP Linux
Forgive me for not searching the archives first. NBU 5.1 MP4 Master/Media on Linux (RHES 4.3). I have one library with six LTO2 drives, the last two drives are SAN-attached (no SSO) to a NetApp FAS940. NDMP backups work fine. I understand veritas does not support Linux as an NDMP server for remote NDMP, so I don't expect it to be able to the read the NDMP tape when it puts it in the wrong drive. What I don't understand is why it's using the wrong drives. I have specified the NDMP storage unit as the destination, but I don't see any where to specify a source storage unit, only a source media server. I wish there was a way to specify specific drives when creating multiple storage units on the same media server. So, it chooses the images, grabs a scratch tape, and mounts the source and destination tapes in two of the non-NDMP drives. Naturally it chokes on the blocksize and fails. The same thing happens when I do bpduplicate manually. i.e. bpduplicate -dstunit netapp01_ndmp -dp NDMPOffsite -client netapp01 -st FULL -policy NDMP_ftp -s 01/26/07 -pt NDMP -rl 2 The error is: Critical bptm(pid=14112) attempted to write 0 gigabytes\, 16383 bytes\, it is not a multiple of 512 How do I get it to use the NDMP drives to duplicate? Hi Darren, I still didn't make this test with NetBackup 6.0, I appled that solution to sove some 94 error codes until 5.x version, see the thec below. http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/247898.htm T+ Carlos Alberto Lima dos Santos Eng. Carlos I thought it would cause issues trying to deassign a live volume? If you do it without reason, yes indeed. If you make sure to reassign it properly afterward, then its not a problem. But I thought the OP said he had NBU 6.0, and he couldn't use deassignbyid. vmquery man page [...] -deassignbyid media_id pool_number stat Unassign volume by media ID, pool, and status. Starting with NetBackup 6.0, this option can only deassign non-NetBackup media. -- Darren Dunham [EMAIL PROTECTED] Senior Technical Consultant TAOS http://www.taos.com/ Got some Dr Pepper? Re: [Veritas-bu] Vault NDMP Linux
I do. There should be no problem reading the bits on a tape and duplicating them (but it wouldn't be able to interpret the bits to perform a restore). What I don't understand is why it's using the wrong drives. I have specified the NDMP storage unit as the destination, but I don't see any where to specify a source storage unit, only a source media server. I wish there was a way to specify specific drives when creating multiple storage units on the same media server. Hm. Can you just do the duplication locally (in the non-NDMP storage unit)? It should be faster. http://support.veritas.com/docs/249240 describes possible duplication procedures (but doesn't go into detail about how to perform them). I've a similar setup to you. The netapp is directly connected to a tape drive. But the Linux server can mount it locally after writing and duplicate it. -- Darren Dunham [EMAIL PROTECTED] Senior Technical Consultant TAOShttp://www.taos.com/ Got some Dr Pepper? Re: [Veritas-bu] Vault NDMP Linux
What he said.. Duplicate from a non-NDMP to another non-NDMP STU. I don't know of anyway to get your filer to do it's own duplication. Basically what you need to do, is to specify a non-NDMP destination STU, and do not attempt to specify an alternate read host. Just make sure you do not have a fragment size specified on the destination STU. [Veritas-bu] Slow restores on Windows Netbackup client
Is it possible to fine the Netbackup Client for Windows (5.1 MP4) to get performance during restores? It is taking 3 times longer to restore large file servers during our DR tests than it takes to back them up. We have done all the tuning we can do on the master server (running Solaris 9, NB Enterprise Server 5.1 MP4). We have gigabit switches and cards, and decent servers. Granted we are restoring 2 million plus files on each Windows file server. ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu

Pick your poison :-) Seconly, use the FlashBackup client - this will significantly speed up backups as well as restores. Millions of files on a single file system will suck, pretty much no matter what you do, and it's not just Windows that has the issue here. .../Ed -- Ed Wilts, Mounds View, MN, USA mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
Re: [Veritas-bu] Slow restores on Windows Netbackup client
Ensure Full duplex with max speed set on all point's of transfer, NIC's and switch ports Eliminating CRC. Are the ports on the switches set to gig Full duplex and Nic's the same? Disable Virus scanners or verify they are not scanning incoming / outgoing files. Ensure files are not being restored to compressed drives and or directories.
