[Veritas-bu] Tape Library
Hello All, I have the opportunity to take on the project of replacing our old Storagetek L700. The time has come to make a choice either T200 Spectralogic library or Quantum I500. I have been looking at everything as far as all the features/options. I just haven't talk to anyone using any of these in other shops. Vendors always want to visit and talk with their happy clients. Just looking forward to get a general idea on everyone's experiences with these products. Thanks in advance! [Veritas-bu] Exchange Restore.
All, I am trying to do a Exchange 2007 restore, my policy is set up to backup each storage group via new stream + name of the storage group. The size of the Netbakup file shows 27GB for this specific storage group. after I do the restore the edb file shows as 2 MB. When the exchange admin runs the Powershell command to view mailboxes inside the db file. It does not show any mail boxes. I am following this doc to do the restore. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=contentid=TECH57346 NBU server 2003 64x Netbackup 6.5.5 Exchange 2007 Server 2003 Has anyone seen this? [Veritas-bu] LT04 Encryption.
All, What is the best way to implement encryption for tape with LT04 tape drives. I have seen that some of you are using KMS. Is this the best method? I need to make sure that my tapes are encrypted with 3DES. Is the KMS function included with NBU 6.5.5 in Windows 2003 64 bit? My current encryption device is coming to end of life. This is the main reason I need to be looking at the different options. Just trying to get some ideas. Thanks, Uli. ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu

All, I have a huge restore to do, I was wondering if any of you have a script that I can feed a XLS,TXT, CSV file with the files I need to restore. The file contains the server name, path and file name. Please let me know if this is even possible. [Veritas-bu] NBU 6.5.5 Eject Issue.
Hello All, I have an issue when I try to eject tapes, the process hangs but it only ejects one tape. I am running NBU 6.5.5 on Win2k3 64x, Storagetek L700 library. Has anybody seen or have ideas how to fix this? Thank you, Ulises. ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] Scratch Media Netbackup 6.5.
Hello All, Currently I have a scratch media pool for all of my LT02 and 3 tapes. Also, I tried to set another scratch media for my WORM tapes.. All the jobs have been running for a couple of months. The problem is that I need to assign tapes manually to my WORM policy, since NBU does not pick up the tapes automatically. Any idea how can I set another WORM type scratch pool for WORM media only? This way I can have NBU pickup my WORM tapes from my scratch media? As have we - were successful back on NBU 3.4 going from Windows to Solaris. We changed host names while we were at it. If you want to bring your database with you, then yes, you will need to use Symantec services to do the migration... otherwise they will not support you... or so they told me. If you are able to successfully complete your upgrade, Symantec will support you after that. What they can't do is support you during the migration itself because there are a LOT of ways it can (and will) go wrong and these breakages are typically going to be well beyond 1st or 2nd level tech support. This is a very complex migration and I don't recall seeing any postings from anybody who has completed a cross-platform migration since NBU 6.x was released (which introduced EMM). Unless you have a very strong technical ability to hack binary files and a fairly good knowledge of NetBackup internals, I would recommend that you not do this without paying for Symantec (or 3rd party) professional services. It's doable but it's HARD. .../Ed Ed Wilts, RHCE, BCFP, BCSD, SCSP, SCSE ewi...@ewilts.orgmailto:ewi...@ewilts.org [cid:image001.jpg@01CAE6CB.3EE16970]Linkedinhttp://www.linkedin.com/in/ewilts inline: image001.jpg___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] Incremental Backups.
Hello All, This is what I am trying to do, I am trying to set up a storage unit to hold my incremental backups. When I try to run a incremental job and point the job to the my F: drive in my local backup server. It displays this messages. 2/22/2010 4:37:09 PM - Error nbjm(pid=3080) NBU status: 800, EMM status: Disk volume is down resource request failed(800) The nbjm process was unable to get the required resources for a job. An EMM reason string that appears in the Activity Monitor job details display and in the nbjm debug log accompanies this status code. The EMM reason string identifies the reason for the failed resource request. When I look at the log it displays the volume incrementalbackup: Interanl 16 marked down, server server servenames-{gsp-2060026. Any ideas? Thank you, Ulises R.
