[Veritas-bu] Status Code 150's
All, I have a Master Server which is a RP2470 with 1024KB of memory and we process about 1500 backups per day through it. In the past two weeks I have experienced Code 150's, but the backups were not cancelled by an administrator, but by the system. Here is the error we receive when it occurs: 3688660: 05:05:29.648 [10196] 16 start_backup_job: fork error: Not enough space (12) 3688661: 05:05:29.648 [10196] 16 run_any_ret_level: failure starting backup job, PID=-1 When this happens nothing else will schedule unti we either restart all the NB process or reboot the server, and I have done both. We logged a call on this and there is no fix for this as of yet but there is one planned in 5.1MP7 which is due out sometime this month. The recommendation was to increase the memory on the server (I realize 1GB is extremely low), and we should be receiving it shortly. I have load balanced the schedule as much as I can. Has anyone else experienced this issue and if so do you have any information that would be helpful? The first two times this happened I rebooted the server and the subsequent outages all I did was recycle the application. I'm looking for any and all opinions on this topic. Thanks, Randy K. [Veritas-bu] Adding Linux to NetBackup Environment as a Master and Media Server.
All, I'm looking for guidance on using Linux in our NetBackup environment. We are getting ready to update our current infrastructure. If we go with Linux we will use the Dell hardware but I need to know from you is how the systems should be sized, what HBA's do you recommend, what OS, does it matter if it is RedHat or SLES? Re: [Veritas-bu] Duplications failing because of Specified Media not in Library....
I guess my question would be is a Duplication treated the same way as a regular backup? When a backup starts it looks to see if it has available media in the pool it is writing to, if there is none it looks for a scratch tape, if it finds one it assigns it to the appropriate pool. Are duplications treated the same way? Thanks, Randy K. [Veritas-bu] Duplication Question.....
All, I run my nightly backup to disk and then duplicate them daily off to tape. I have a media Server that has only 4 drives attached to it and is mainly used for our large databases that we write to tape. I have disk storage also attached to this media server that I run backups to, and duplicate daily. I have a 2nd media server that has disk storage and 8 tape drives attached to it. Here's my question, can I backup to my disk storage on one media server and then duplicate it off to tape on the other media server? This has been tested but is very slow. [Veritas-bu] Kernel Parameters for Linux...
All, I am testing a Linux media server for the first time and was wondering if there were any kernel tuning parameters I should have. I am testing a Dell 2950 w/ 2 Dual Core 2.8GHz CPU's, w/ 16GB of memory, 5TB of disk storage attached via the San, and 4 fibre tape drives. Some time ago we found a similar issue on our RHEL 3 (2.4 kernel) servers using Qlogic cards. We use a fibre bridge for the drives here and recently found that with the 2.6 kernels there is an option that can be passed into the driver modules for QLA that will make it see all drives attached to the fibre bridges. Before 2.6 there was no flag to make it skip gaps so it would see some drives but not others. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Justin Piszcz Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2007 1:28 PM To: ZIMMER, RANDY K [AG/1000] Cc: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] Trouble getting tape drives recognized on Linux Server running SLES9 Does the host see them? cat /proc/scsi/scsi On Tue, 29 May 2007, ZIMMER, RANDY K [AG/1000] wrote: All, I need some pointer on how I get my tape drives recognized by my Linux server running SLES 9. There is no switch involved the fibre is attached directly from the server to the tape drive.
