Thanks Tony. It has been a long time since I have
been able to post to the list.
I had to change some settings in my Outlook
Express in order to be able to post.

It looks like I will be going to Alaska in Sept. to
do some FF for trout and Grayling.

It also appears that I may be able to fish for
Salmon also.
I have to get busy learing to tie all over
again.
I haven't tied much since the Sow Bug , I think it
was in 2003 or 2004. Can't remember.

Do you have any good Salmon recipies?

Thank you,

[VFB] Re: TEST

2009-04-22 Thread Alan Di Somma
Tony:

I found my old hat pin from the SowBug and it was 2004.
Me and my wife had a great time there and want to make it back again very soon.
I had my Rotator Cuff operated on in Dec and have gone thru therapy.
I am starting a strengthening program at home now so I should be good.

I follow all the posts and am glad that I can take some time and answer some of
them now.

I have a trip of a life time planned for Alaska in Sept.
I have gotten out a bunch of recepie books and will start with the simple ones
till I feel comfortable for Salmon flys.

One of the books has Don Ordes mouse in it. Don't think I will be trying that
one.
It is one that my fishing buddy Gordon Mankins brought back from the FFF
Conclave of 1995.
It is called Patterns of the Masters and he surely belongs in there.

Thank you,

for the list.
Tony, as i was driving over the dam at 10 minutes before 6 p.m. last night, i
noticed the water had been turned off...i had to make that conservation
coalition meeting at the the Gastons Center above the damn at 6 p.m., but sure
did feel more like fishing. Glad you got to wet a line.
Tonights NAFF meeting was a good one. i just got home and Misa had a great
dinner waiting..life is good. i'm gonna make the club (NAFF) outing on
Thurs. We meet at the handicaped (Ackerman), Access on the Northfork at 1 p.m.
Hope you can make it. i'll buddy wade you up to the island and back if you
like. Lemme know if you need a ride. Prolly be my last chance to fish locally
until sometime in Aug. We hit the road again on Sun. We're only here now for
the TU Banquet on Sat. night.or we'd already be in Washington state
fishing, by tomorrow. Oh well. mark

Wanted to go fishing all day but the Creek was too high from the rain and they
were running five units at the dam., water was running high on the White. The
wind had been blowing hard all day..About 6 pm, I got a call from my fishing
buddy that lives up near the dam that the dam was shut down and I should have
some low water in an hour or so. I live 10 miles downriver. The wind was still
blowing so I gave it no thought and went in the shop to work on some rods. At
about 7 PM while working in the rods, I noticed the wind had died down and the
dock was way down . The water was still not all the way down to be able to wade
but I saw the trout were working the surface real good. I stopped what I was
doing, grabbed my rod and took off to the dock. The air was just filled with
Gray Caddis about a sz 16. Looked through the few flies I grabbed from my vest
and had a fly that was tied with Gray Antron. It looked like a puff of cotton
in the hook.
It was already getting dark but the trout were jumping and splashing all over
the place.
Made a cast to a boil and nothing, then made a cast to another boil and bang, a
hook up.
Trying to land a fish from the rail on the dock can take some maneuvering. I
only had a short handle net but was able to land the fish while laying on my
belly. It was a nice fat gorged belly Brown close to 20. After getting all
squared away again I cast to a couple more boils and hooked up again, Another
fat Brown, I would guess about 16. It was really getting dark now but the
splashes were still going on. I would cast to where I heard a splash or see a
boil in the reflected light up on the deck. I hooked up again and another fat
Brown in the 16 class. Got still another one in the same size class. I thought
I would make another cast before quitting as the wind was coming back up and I
was not warm enough. I hooked up again and I knew this was a good fish. Well ,
I did not land this one. It got under the dock, shook a while, made a run and
snapped off my whole tippet..I would of liked to stayed out but I was getting
cold and would have to get some light to rig up again. I had a good half hour
so I called it quits . Thought I might have the same this evening but not so.
Five units running at the dam and the wind is blowing.
Maybe tomorrow evening.
Arkansas Tony

[VFB] Re: Alaska Trip

2009-04-22 Thread jim phillips

For Alaska, you will need some streamers; hairwing and feather. Skunks, and
this type always do well, You need some bigger flys (10 and above) for the
bigger fish, Smaller for Graylings.

May your GOD be your fishing partner.

You bet Tony. I have several variations of it also.

I plan to take a bunch of Clouser Deep Minnows also. I have taken many
different varieties of fish with it.

One of my favorites is the Arizona Peacock Lady and the variation that Gordon
Mankins taught me. The Apache Lady.

I also plan on some dry flies, some CDC flies and a bunch of the old
traditional Elk Hair Caddis, a Royal Wulff , Some Half Backs and some Full
Backs, Humpies, Mosquitos, Griffiths Knats, Adams, Renegads, RW Nymphs, Prince
Nymphs, RS40's.

Thank you,

---
Have you got the recipe for the Chili Pepper. It has worked well all over
including Alaska.
Tony

Not a bad selection Alan(can you email me a pic of that Apache
Lady? Tkx., don't think i know that fly.), Good to know your not about
to stoop to usin' egg patterns..lol. Apparently, your hip to the fact
that it's NOT all about catchin'..one thing MORE you SHOULD do
imho...is tye up a few of your own designs, and fish those.if they
work, you'll have great satisfaction..if they don'tno harm
donejust more experience at the vise. Good luck. mark. KISS one
for me... p.s. i'd skip the CDC.don't get me wrong..i
LOVE the stuff.but in Alaska, who's got time to be changin' flies after
every fish? lmaoTHEM Bows got Tuffus Bro.
