[VFB] Re: Fishing Yesterday
Sounds like a great time. No fishing here, yesterday was rain free, but the sump pump was still running continuously we're supposed to get another big storm through today. I fish those zebras once in a while below Table Rock w/out the indicator; I just watch the tippet/leader connection set anytime it stops moving. I miss a few, but the ones I land are pretty good size. J From: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com [mailto:vfb-m...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of bambot...@yahoo.com Sent: Thursday, May 14, 2009 8:55 PM To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com Cc: flyfishingandflytyingforpanf...@yahoogroups.com Subject: [VFB] Fishing Yesterday Well after almost two years of very little fishing I finally got on the river and had one of those real good days. They have been running a lot of water since they shut down in March when the guys were here for the Sowbug. I did get a few times that I fished from the dock with high water and did fairly well. Yesterday they shut down because of flooding downriver and will be shut down for a few days. I have a friend visiting from California who has never been here. Just his good lick to hit it like yesterday. We headed up to Tucker Shoals about 8 AM., Forecast was for rain and high winds. The bend at Tucker is kind of protected by a ridge and trees so we could tolerate it well for a while. I started out with a Green soft hackle. Picked up a trout or two but they were not really interested in it. Changed over to my Still Born Emerger and from the first cast with it I was catching some real nice Rainbows up to 15. They stopped hitting the emerger so I switched over to a Peacock and Bronze. Again I caught trout from the first cast till it too would not work. Changed over to a small Black Midge. Same here, they would hammer it for a while then ignore it. Headed up the river above my friend and tied on a Chili Pepper. From the first cast I started taking trout of some nice large sizes up to18 and 19 . Finally I hooked into one that was the largest for the day butI did not land it. It was bigger than my 19 landing net and I could not keep it from falling out. I tried to slide my fingers down the tippet to the hook to give it a twist out but the trout made a good shake and broke off. That was the only Chili Pepper I had with me. I tied on another Peacock and and Bronze and fished till the wind got so bad that we had to quit. Tom and I had caught over 30 trout each. I stopped in the middle of this message to go out again but today it was a whole different story. I had called another fishing buddy to go with us late afternoon, Dean is a trout magnet. He only fishes small midges in sz 20 and smaller and uses an indicator Well he made Tom and I look sick. I could not buy a bite on several flies while he was hooking up every time I looked up. He was doing that till the water started rising , the dam had turned on one unit. Dean caught 34 trout. Dean had rigged me up with a sz 20 Zebra Midge like he was using. I did not even get a hit on it.I guess I am just not a indicator fisherman. Removed all of this and tied on my Stillborn emerger and caught six trout, Two browns, three Rainbows and one Cutthroat in about 30 minuets. Several flies we had used yesterday would not even get a tap today. Arkansas Tony --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the VFB Mail group. This brings up a tool bar right above this text typing area that allows different fonts, bold, italics, etc. Way over to the right is a little icon with a mountain and the sun in it. This is the photo insert icon. Make sure your typing pointer is at the space you want to insert the picture and that you know where your photo is in your files. When you click the little icon it will ask you for the photo name or you can hit browse, find it, select it, and open it into the email body. It may be quite large, so use the drag grips to resize the photo to suit the paragraph width. [VFB] Re: Fishing Yesterday
J, I never fish a Bobber till this time. I just had a mess, all tangled up. I prefer to watch my line and I make the determination if I have a strike. Today we fished Tucker again. The wind was howling but we stayed there toll about 12:30. I started out with a Peacock and Bronze. Caught two trout but they then refused it. Changed over to a 16 Copper midge fishing it without a indicator and caught about 20 trout. Broke off my whole furled leader at the fly line. Re rigged with a peacock soft hackle. Caught about five more trout and broke off. Decided the wind was just too much so we quit. Just as we quit, the river began to rise, looked like about three units. Had a real good morning. All three of us caught some really nice size trout. Jeff, Tell your son I said hi and that I'm very glad he made it back safe and sound. I can understand why that hack-job wouldn't phase you right now. Time to take him fishing again. You can tell pretty easily from the broken English that it was not me. My buddy traced it to China. Pain in the neck. It's impossible to upset me today. My son is at the end of his tour and will be home tomorrow. They hit the states on Sunday and left Camp Atteberry this morning on a bus for KC. --- On Fri, 5/15/09, Allan Fish afi...@sbcglobal.net wrote: From: Allan Fish afi...@sbcglobal.net Subject: [VFB] CAUTION - was Re: New Shopping To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com Date: Friday, May 15, 2009, 5:08 PM CAUTION: I'd be careful opening that thing. With the 'rich' format, there's an 'insert picture' icon in the mail toolbar. It works great, too. If your photo is too large once inserted, just click on it and drag it to a smaller proportion using the lower right corner grip. I've found that if I do the 'rich text' and 'insert picture' command, the photo shows up in a box I can downsize by dragging a corner. Rene used to have to post to his site, but now we can save him the trouble. This may help one another with ideas on how to arrange materials and tools. Don't clean up, as we need to know how it looks when flies are being tied. Any takers?
