That AK Best production book I just snapped up. Now, the next least expensive one on Amazon or Half.com is about $25-26 (at least from sellers I'd even buy from as the two others at $14 each are Amazon sellers and they lose half my books I order) and they go on up to about $95 like I said before. I'm sure the book is worth every dime and then some. It's just that it's hard for a Po Boy to get up much of a book collection these days LOL... Don, for your project. Or anyone who might wanna know. Don't really know if anyone else has problems getting good gut to use with blind eye hooks...but i'm finding alternative sources. Well, i recently found another one anyway. Not only do old Violin, Bass, Viloa, Cello, and Ukelele strings work well.but tennis racquet gut also does. Apparently modern racquets predominately use a synthetic gut.but the old natural stuff can be found. And it's not to expensive at all. Just in case there's anyone out there who tyes on blind eyes. Good thing about it is you don't have to twist it.it comes ready to use. You will have to nibble on the ends to get it to seperate for tapered trimmings.but that's no biggie. If your worried bout germs before suckin' on it for a few minutes to get it pliable enough to form a loop.just dip it in boiling water for a few seconds first, or nuke it for 10 seconds before you put it in your mouth. May I suggest that it is such a great book and will help your tying so much, even if you aren't tying more than a fly or two, that you spring for the cost of the book by AK best, complete with colored pictures and more information and read it thoroughly. I once saw a step-by-step process for preparing gut from silkworms. I was curious if anyone has it, or has ever tried preparing their own. Think I remember something now that the Wenger guy said Since Wenger has different series with different knife models, for example the series 'Sports' with the models 'Backpacker', 'Fisherman', 'Biker', 'Motorist' and 'Golfer'... and the series NewRanger with models like 'Hunter', 'Gardener', 'Electrician', it's a wide range of fields... with a lot of different tools suiting the different models. One thought behind the Gigant Knife 2007 was to make ONE knife that had all the features from their other models. ... and suddenly the question I had been walking with was answered: Why do I see a tool called 'junior round blade' on a $1000+ knife?. No father would let a child who required a 'junior round blade' to even come close to it. I'm in detail interested, whether older browser or macs can show the page. If it works, it is much easer to create the pages for swaps than do it conventionally with HTML. [VFB] Peggy Brenner's Hopper Swap
I picked up the hopper swap flies from my PO Box just across the Canada/USA border today. Great set of hoppers. After reading Harrison Steves III's book on foam flies late this summer, I became very interested in foam hopper and the like. In fact I now possess the best supply and variety of hoppers that I have ever had. DonO's bright chartreuse sheeps wool Katydid looks very realistic, in fact I'm sure that I saw it move its legs. So thank to Peggy Brenner for organizing the swap and also thanks to Joyce Westphal who obtained the dressing for John Foust's Baler hopper for me, although this was not part of this particular swap.
