[VFB] Had to share this one.
Guys, Had to share this- made my day. This endorsement ranks right there with Tony's, as they are both equally famous. All comments are important to me, but those coming from famous tiers carry a lot of weight. He's also been tying forever, so it really boosts my confidence. For those who don't know Bob, he's an east-coast tier who is world-famous for his realistic patters, right up there with Blackstone, Whillock, and the others. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Rope Dubbing is a well done DVD clearly demonstrating a variety of dubbing material techniques on the one thing that often gives tyers (and not just beginning tyers) trouble- the natural fur and synthetic material dubbing of a fly's body. Don, a natural on camera, presents his quick and easy methods in an unpretentious, best friend demonstration that anyone watching should be able to pick up on their first try. Especially interesting was the thicker/thinner corrections he employs to arrive at the desired thickness. Working a hackle in with the rope dubbing and thereby completing two tasks at the same time is nothing short of brilliant. If you only buy one fly tying DVD this year, and are looking for something new that will make your tying hours easier, this is the one. Re: [VFB] reels
Since you're not going to depend on the reel to take a beating and keep on reeling, I'd say take a look at Cabelas. They should carry a 7wt and you can probably get one for under $150, maybe less. I wouldn't take one of these to the salt, and I doubt that's where you're taking it, since you don't play the fish on the reel. That's my 2 cents, anyway. I have a Lamson on my 7/8 wt and I've landed 30 pound dorado with it. Drag worked flawlessly. Re: [VFB] Had to share this one.
I loved your DVD and can't wait to meet you and shake the hand that rope dubs. Thank you, Alan Di Somma Why is it that at class reunions you feel younger than everyone else looks? http://www.azflyfishing.net/ - Original Message - From: Don Ordes To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, December 08, 2009 3:25 PM Subject: Re: [VFB] Had to share this one. Alan, Yours is definitely appreciated and is on my website. It's very important to also get comments from fishermen who just tie flies for fishing, like you, as this is the 'bread butter' of the technique. Re: [VFB] Had to share this one. Alpaca
Alpaca (llama) is perfect for the rope fub as the hair tapers off as it is drug out of the bunch, and this creates a perfect taper on the body. It makes great dry flies (holds floatant) or wet flies (wire core). RE: [VFB] Fishing near Sedona Az
I am used to fishing in the winter so the cold is not a problem. I expected the use of small flies. I will be taking my midge box for sure. Thanks for the help near the shopping. My wife will enjoy that while i sneak away and throw in a fly or two. jc -Original Message- From: Alan Di Somma phxflyt...@cox.net Sent: Tuesday, December 08, 2009 1:32 PM To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: [VFB] Fishing near Sedona Az It may be a little cold next week. I'd suggest you use something small, like sz 16 or 18. The water is not very deep and it is ususlly over hung with tree braches, but can be fished quite nicely with a small rod. If you take the wife to the Telapaque shopping area, you can fish the stream just down the bank. You can access it from the parking lot by just walking down the hill. Or you follow the road up from there , you can usually park on the side of the road and access the stream from there. You can also fish down stream but aI have never done that. I am sure you can access the stream though.
