Pete , the smaller Mustad 32 has a flattened end with no hole.

Surely, while tying the fly, you must have had to lash a piece of tippet
material (probably 8X at a max) on the end of it with a loop in the end
of the mono or thread so you could tie it to a leader. I have given
away the few of them I had to tyers with better eyes and steadier
hands.

Comments? Clarification? History? Was it even fishable? (Maybe for
minnows?)

Re: [VFB] #32 Mustad Royal Coachman Video in the making

2017-04-04 Thread Pete Gramp
I see your point (barely, I mean, they *are* size 32s after all), between
Tiemco and Mustad 32s in size difference, but in my view, either one is a
challenge that is something beyond my grasp - at least for any time in the
foreseeable future - and tying on either one is something worthy of
admiration. To tie on the smaller of the two, I guess the Mustad correct?,
would indeed be far more challenging, but that does not mean that the
Tiemco is by any means "easy to tie on". Like I stated before, I've only
ever tied down to 26's and even that was a challenge for my big mitts and
failing eyes.

DonO - You mentioned that you tied on a blind eye / naked eye hook, yet the
two hooks in Nick's picture appear to have eyes. Am I missing something?
Is the hook you used eye-less, or am I misunderstanding your use of the
words "naked eye", or is the hook not a Mustad or Tiemco, or is there some
other situation I'm just not thinking of?

Can't wait to see that video!
-Pete
