Not too late Donna- you’re spot #18.   ;o)

See list below.

Since VFB traffic is not an issue nowadays, do y’all want to keep swap
correspondence on list, or take it off.  All posts for the swap will have the
subject line PSQN SWAP.

So we have 18 flies due by Feb. 28th.  Does that work?  Can submit extras or
design efforts for charitable donations.

Rest of details to follow shortly.

2019-01-26 Thread DonO
Rope dubbing advantageChuck, Thanks for the review. Great of you. It’ll get
even better with practice on different dubbings. Did your DVD have samples?

Don’t forget that you can rope-dub with any thread, but the mono is easiest to
learn on. Just make sure you anchor it well before and after you dub. And don’t
overwrap the dubbing with thread.

The one big sales difference now is I’m using a downloadable version video, not
a hard DVD. It’s $30 with no shipping cost or wait time. I used to put a bunch
of sample flies inside the DVD case, but now I mail the samples to the buyer if
they request it, which they normally do. So overall it’s cheaper and faster.

I’m hoping to recover enough use of my right hand that I can follow up with
more downloadable DVDs.
I’ve been re-doing my fly room for months, so now I get to focus on output.

Anyone up for a mouse and deer-hair fly DVD?

Cheers,
Don

Subject: [VFB] Rope dubbing advantage

Don: And everybody. I have re-watched my rope dub videos lately by Don O and
have been practicing the technique for this swap and noticed at least one
advantage to rope dubbing. The trick is to use mono as the thread/rope core.

Number one reason is that you never have to swap thread colors as clear mono
blend into any color material. Number two at least for me is that the 2 pound
mono I use seems to be stronger than 6/0 thread. And mono being more slippery
that most any thread it seems to get the dubbing material to spin around the
“thread” to make the dubbing “rope” a little easier, overall.

Lastly, If you don’t have a copy of Don’s rope dub videos It should b in your
DVD collection IMHO. He makes it so easy to follow along that even I learned it
LOL. And NO, he didn’t ask me to post this or anything like that. In fact,
you’d have to ask him if he even has any more available I just think that any
“tool” in your tying arsenal would help you tie better, quicker, and stronger,
not to mention stronger as many, many insects in the world have naturally
segmented bodies and the rope dub method makes that look more easily obtainable.

Tr him here to see if he has more and to order your copy if possible.

I found an interesting fly on the internet that would be a good candidate
for a swap. It’s called a Pink Squirrel Nymph. Many of you are aware of it and
have probably fished it.

If you have fished it, a story can be added. Even crawfish like this
pattern!

Ye Rooles: (for IOFFers)

1. Role call for who’s still here- swapping or not.
2. List of those interested in swapping this easy and much-liked pattern.
3. Lots of photos on a search of images
4. Broad range of quarry fish
5. Very east tie, easily adaptable to rope-dubbing if you choose

6. Size 16 – 8 all one size or varied, style hook can vary- wet, nymph, or
scud hooks
7. Gray or mottled brown body (your choice of dubbing), pink collar (any
material suited for a collar per the photo archives)
8. Gold or silver bead, your choice of ribbing wire or roped segments
9. Any customization in keeping with the basic pattern (dubbing blends)

10 Number of swappers to dictate size of swap- SHOOTING FOR 18.
11. Standard swap rules apply: toe tags, return SASE (some sort of pkg.)
or Cash for return of flies. Recipes not needed unless you did something
special. (Story?)

Any extra flies will be donated to good charity.

Will post a photo of all designs. Google images should pick it up.

All comments welcome. Easy tie, great fly (famous even), lots of variations
with a common theme.

I am still in stroke recovery, but able to do more all the time- just need
to keep my energy up.

Any VFB swappers left (2)? Looking like we’ll have a good-ol’ days VFB
Swap.

Will give it a couple of weeks for distance lurkers to check in.

Cheers,
DonO

Not too late Donna- you’re spot #18. ;o)

See list below.

Since VFB traffic is not an issue nowadays, do y’all want to keep swap
correspondence on list, or take it off. All posts for the swap will have the
subject line PSQN SWAP.

So we have 18 flies due by Feb. 28th. Does that work? Can submit extras or
design efforts for charitable donations.

Rest of details to follow shortly.

Don

Re: [VFB] Pink Squirrel Nymph Swap- Final Swapper List etc.

2019-01-26 Thread Ron Boutin
Don O, I am leaving for a road trip in 2 weeks, and will be gone for a while.
I will not have tying stuff with me. So I will tie my flies by then. I will
either mail them out by then or can do that on the road. Just give us the
address to mail the flies. I went to the NJ show yesterday and made sure I have
enough of what I need to tie these psns.
