Bill: Yes, I cast them both on my Wal Mart special $39.95 Crystal River
“Cahill” rod. I do se a cpl bells and whistles the Orvis has that the no name
doesn’t line welded loop ends on both ends for easier tie on to the backing and
to the leader ad well as the fact that the Orvis line has it’s name, w/f and
length stamped onto the line for easy recognition. So, overall the Orvis IS a
better line. However, for ten fold the price, it should be, Chuck

Interesting! I assume it must be the difference in taper or diameter. You cast
them on the same rod I assume. Do you have another 6wt to try them on?

I tried a little tackle tinkering today since tearing up my shoulder two weeks
ago. Sorer, I'll need to wait.

I stand corrected. The Orvis I bought IS Made in the USA. That’s worth a LOT
IMHO, Chuck

The very cheap line is likely Chinese made. Are they both weight forward lines
or both double tapers? You can’t really compare if they are not the same. For
floating lines, it remains to be seen if they continue to float after normal
use. It is not casting distance but overall performace that counts.

RE: [VFB] Cheap but good fly line

2019-04-30 Thread Chuck Alexander
Neville: They are both floating, w/f line. You’re right, the Orvis will
probably out last the no name, (it should for the price difference) but it’s
Chinese made too, plus I can buy 5 spools of the cheap stuff for the SALE price
of the Orvis. Don’t get me wrong. I’m VERY happy with the Orvis line. But I’m
happy (so far) with the cheap stuff too. I’m going to the lake tomorrow I hope
and will give a “post fishing” report on both as neither has ever been wet yet.
