Thanks for doing it gently, Nev. That way neither of us gets hurt and
you can bale your reel into a haystack and I can bail mine out of the
bottom of a boat.

Besides, if we stick to flyfishing, we don't have this problem at all. :-D

Stay warm. Try to get back to Sowbug. i miss making you have to look

Sounds easy enough for me.  Unless you have her bring the beer and operate the

I know this is off-topic flyfishing, but, it is fishing.  Just got my new
Cabelas mag, and there’s not a single spinning reel with a bail-flip trigger.
I’ve used these bail-flips for as long as they’ve been out, but only for lure
chunking & retrieving with one-hand operation. Went on line to some blogs about
bails without triggers, and it seems the opinions are divided between trigger
users, bail flippers, and the ‘new’ no-bail at all users. I grew up with the
manual bail flip (Mitchell 300s), but never had a bail-less model, so went to
You-tube for a demo.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQkHW00VJTQ  Looks like
it works, but I didn’t see any bail-less models in the mag, either.

I figure if I can find out enough about the bail-less, maybe get one and see if
I like it.  Then, if two guys are fighting over which is best, I can settle the
matter and win a No-bail Peace Price.

While this is true in pure water,  we understand now that UV penetration in
natural waters is affected by dissolved organics and other facot5rs, and that
in many cases UV doesn't penetrate as deep as visible light, and may even be
attenuated at depth of just a few feet.  Again it depends on the optical
properties of the water in question.

We also wrote about some anglers who've reported greater success with UV lures
in murky water, or in low light conditions, situation we now know run counter
to the science says.  IN these  cases, perhaps, it was silhouette, working
depth, vibration, contras, or other specs of lure's oval presentation that made
it more effective in these conditions.  Or perhaps these lure contained glow
characteristics along with UV properties."

"In a previous article on UV and walleyes, written when the UV lure phenomenon
was gaining steam, we reported that UV penetrated deeper than visible light.

[VFB] RE: anyone ever injure their tying arm?

2015-11-13 Thread 'Wayne C Blake Hedges' via VFB Mail
Hi All;

I shattered my right elbow October 8th, reconstructive surgery which entailed
replacing one side of the joint with the other side screwed together occurred
October 13th.

My question is has anyone on the list suffered a similar injury to their tying
arm, and how long before you were able to tie again?

Thanks in advance;

Hi All;

I can use my hand now, can't open a jar but can do low impact things. Thinking
fly tying would be a good challenge. My splint may impede my ability to tie
since it ends about an inch below where my first gears end.

I'm curious what difficulties others have experienced with hand skills after an
injury like this.

I'm going to give tying a try later this evening.

Re: [VFB]new swaps coming?

2015-01-26 Thread 'Wayne C Blake Hedges' via VFB Mail
How about a virtual swap? I really enjoy swaps but, have a lifetime supply
from swaps already.

Anyone interested can tie a fly and post it to the list. Super bowl,
winter(ice/snow related),bring in the spring, I just wanted to tie it etc.

I will still try to get the Poppers tyed if I can just get over this mess.

[VFB] Re: [flyfishingandflytyingforpanfish] Trickle charger for my marine deep cycle battery

2014-12-16 Thread 'Wayne C Blake Hedges' via VFB Mail
Hi Chuck it should but will take a long time to charge when completely dead.
105 amp hours @ 5 amp hours would require 21 hours from dead to completely
charged. Would make a good trickle/maintainer charger I imagine.

Folks: This coming Spring (barring more health problems etc) my wife and I plan
to go fishing at LEAST a cpl times per week. My question is about a trickle
charger for my deep cycle battery I use to power my trolling motors (we use two
to get to where across the lake and back, then the foot controlled one to troll
the shoreline hunting for bluegills and/or bass “on the bed”. Anyway,, till
now, I have to heft my 50-60 pound battery into my workshop, put it on the 2
amp setting on my 2/6/55/jumpstart big battery charger, then lug it back into
the back of the boat to go fishing again. It’s been either that, or risking the
charger getting rained on and ruined, or electrocuting somebody. Anyway, this
charger from Harbor freight in the hyperlink below is a 3/4 amp trickle
charger/maintainer.

What I’m wondering is (even if it takes a cpl days to do it) is will this
little charger charger my 105 amp hour battery?? The manual with it says it’s
for batteries that are from 5 to 125 ah batteries. The 125 is more than the max
105 listed, but I have read where ppl say YES it will charge my battery, and
others say NO it won’t. Truth probably lies in the middle as in like I said, I
think it will, but may take up to a cpl days to do so, depending on how drained
the battery is. Anybody here tried a charger like this?? Reason I want this is
because I plan to make a “bass boat” out of my jon boat be decking it with
plywood in the front and back, so we have a place to stand up while fishing as
my back starts to hurt if I sit all day, so I plan to “permanently” mount this
charger on my stern plywood piece, so that all I have to do it run the
extension cord to the boat and let er rip. Thanks a lot. Chuck
