Subject: [VFB] Thanks to all

Folks: I’d like to thank everybody who had my wife in their thoughts and
prayers recently when she had those blood clots in her lungs. I’m happy to
report that she is MUCH better and even started back to work for the first time
yesterday afternoon from 4pm till midnight. And she felt great after working
that long of a shift as well. She’s a “work from home” support tech for
Microsoft, and deals with billing problems for their X-Box system, and as per
her docs orders, I modified her desk/computer so that she can sit down fo ra
cpl hours, then stand up for a cpl hours, cause that sitting for 8-10 hours
straight is probably the main factor in creating the blood clots. She is
scheduled to work tomorrow from 1:30pm till midnight, but that’s a little long
right now when she’s still healing, so they said she could “jump off” the
phones and take an extended 2-3 hour lunch break so she can get up and move
around like she’s supposed to do. She still has a pretty bad cough, but her doc
says that it may be with her for up to six MONTHS. She has to take six
breathing treatments per day, and that helps a LOT. 4 of them are Albuterol,
and 2 are some type of steriod to shrink the swollen bhronchial tubes. Anyway,
thanks again, and please keep her in your thoughts and prayers till she is 100%
back in good health. Thanks a million, Chuck (and Billie) Alexander

Also, her docs and nurses have ALL been Just GREAT. They are the most caring,
thoughtful, thorough, and skilled docs and nurses she has ever had. She has
three doctors and they ALL communicate very well with each other, and that
makes all the difference in the wolrd because the right hand knows exactly what
the left hand is doing, and that don’t happen as much as it should these days
it seems.

Hi All

Saw my oncologist Wednesday, he says that although the cancer is back it is
only progressing slowly.
He has to get funding for the treatment but he is certainthat will not be a
problem, I am seeing him on the 15th January and will probably start treatment
just after that.
The treatment will be 2 different drugs taken in tablet form at home and will
last for about 3 months, I will take them for 3 weeks then a week off and so
on, the tablets are not as aggressive as the Cisplatin that I was on the first
time so hopefully not so many side effects, the good thing is he said that we
had a long way to go yet so hopefully willstill be posting these messages in a
few years time.

Folks: I posted a while back that my sister in law (and family) needed your
prayers as she found out she had lung cancer (and NEVER smoked a day in here
life). Well, she passed away at 9:30 am this morning. It has taken everybody as
a total shock and her husband as well as her youngest son (aged 17) are being
hit the hardest. But my wife is taking it real bad as well as they were only
about 15 months apart and were raised almost like twins. She was only 48 years
old. She was to start chemo this Monday. She has had a TERRIBLE cough for a
LONG time (as in two YEARS). They did surgery last month and removed whatever
they could but couldn't get it all and they found three more spots this past
week. Anyway, she got up this morning, and was real short of breath. Then, when
she started moving around, she just collapsed as the fluid had built back up in
her lungs. The EMT's got there and she only had 20% blood oxygen. She stopped
breathing, and the ER docs just couldn't bring her back. Just one of those
terrible things I guess. Thanks a lot, Chuck

Re: [VFB] Porta-Bote ,porta boat???

2012-05-24 Thread Charles Haase
Wes,
Thank you. We purchased a 12’ and a 40 # electric motor. We sure are enjoying
it, It does handle the rough water well. Much better than the john boat or
13.3’ canoe we have had. Again thank you.

Subject: Re: [VFB] Porta-Bote ,porta boat???

Chuck,

I owned a Porta-Bote for over ten years. Used it with a 30# thrust electric
trolling motor. Generally the boat is easy to handle, is very good in rough
weather as the hull absorbs impacts nicely. Newer models are better designed
and more trouble-free than the older model I had.

These boats hold their value very well. I recently sold mine to get a new
pontoon boat, and the sale price after a decade was only $25 less than I
originally bought the boat for.

I don't know if I would like floating rivers in the craft, though we did it.
Depends on how rough the water will be.

One thing I did not like about the boat is that it doesn't have a flat floor,
so difficult to stand in for fly casting.

Perfect boat for an RV, however.

If you have other questions or concerns, let me know.

We would be hauling it on our 5th wheel RV. For use on smaller lakes, and

Plan to use a 40+ pound thrust electric motor on a 12 footer.
We now carry a 13’ canoe, to small if the wind comes up. Used canoes for
years but
as we age they are harder to handle.

it. If there's enough interest, the following will set forth the approach.
All ideas are welcome.

I've devised a chart that a swapmeister can use to moderate any swap based on
bulk orders, even if it's 9 or 2 swappers. (working on a 10-person swap basis
normally, not maximum or minumum) It's like a football pool for signing up.

For the swapmeister- 10% of the goods for his/her efforts and time, plus
shipping and handling fees. There's no cost for the swapmeister, just time, so
this would be a way for a swapmeister to host a co-op swap for things they
need, and 10% of a bulk order would be enough. Of course, the can list higher
%ages and buy more just like a swapper would. Someone retired and on a limited
budget can stock up without cost by hosting co-op swaps of anything they can
buy cheaper in bulk, but don't need that much. Hagan's is a great example-
bulk discounts.

With the Hagen's order, beads and dubbing boxes can be added at much cheaper
prices that other single sale retail catalogs. I think the swapmeister just
needs to sign up with Hagan's to be a customer. There's a 10% excise tax they
add to orders, so include that in the bulk price.

What can be co-op swapped? Anything that can be divided, so discounted bulk
purchases will be especially cost effective, like the hooks. But even the
Whiting saddles were effective. Six swappers may want to divide up a fox pelt
= one catagory of a co-op swap sheet. Or the swapper may be able to order 10
squirrel pelts for a cheap bulk price from a furrier.

HOW? You look at the co-op swaps open, request a chart via email. You see
what you like and the %ages available and the price, and put yourself down for
that (email your requests- mark up a print you make). If you want to add items
to the list, you can add a product and see how many others want to co-op that
with you.

This chart would even work with a materials swap, like we've had in the past.

OK, let's see if there's any interest.

Any interest in doing this again.
Hagens hooks have gone up in price.
Dry fly hooks about $55/1000, wets are around $65.00/ 1000.
Would need to ad 10% exccise tax and shipping.

Re: [VFB] MERRY CHRISTMAS

2011-12-29 Thread Charles Haase

Alan:
We are full time RV'ers and spent part of our winter time at a park 25 miles
north of Carlsbad at Lakewood. Not much fishing here. Otherwise my New
Mexico fishing
has been at Eagle Nest lake and through out the Cimarron River in the State
Park. Trout in the park and nice perch in the lake this year.

We also fish when in Nebraska with family and doctors.

As you Old Timers know, I have a ton of fly fishing quotes
that I have written. I use to post one each morning to give
us a laugh to start the day with. I got tired, took a needed
sabbatical. Rick took them over, he got tired. Allan(s) did
too.

Well, I'm ready to resume my job as Quote Meister for the VFB,
that is if you'd like me to do them again. Lots of people missed
them, so here we go with one of many to come, unless you tell me
NO.

Fishing to long a rod on a small stream is like driving a
Greyhound bus down a deer trail.
