Great patterns. And my wife and I were just talking Saturday about building a
stockpile of various length furled leaders cause our stock is low. Chuck

I hope I didn't mislead any of you. These flys are new to me.

Over the years I've tied many "Easiest Ever Ant Pattern" patterns.

One of my all time favorites: The late Ed Sutryn's McMurray Ant:
https://www.flydreamers.com/en/fly-tying/mc-murray-ant-vl233 Years ago I
ordered some from Ed. Still in my vest. I'll never use them. But trout love
ants so even my poor copies produce. And I've tied Harrison Steeve's
TransparAnt. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uIKex5Z-Ws>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uIKex5Z-Ws

Also Kelly Gallup's Ant Acid: <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uuYX-cKqio>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uuYX-cKqio

I've tied a variety of fur and foam ants.

But my newest ant pattern I'm tying is Mr. Bill's Flying Ant.
<http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/fotw2/050806fotw.php>
http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/fotw2/050806fotw.php

The other new to me fly is Justin Bruce's: Houdini Tenkara Fly:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIB18lIzwew
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIB18lIzwew&t=496s> &t=496s

I bought a $10 rod from China to try fishing the Tenkara method.

And I've tied a bunch of Kebari style flies. Which I'm hoping to try soon. On
most of the small streams I fish Tenkara will work well.

Chuck, furled leaders work really well with Tenkara rods.

Well that's what I've been up to this winter.

Good to hear you're getting healthier Chuck. I'm doing well, but

Susan has had some setbacks. I won't go into details. Just keep us in your

inches of snow last Sunday and minus 18 this morning. The sun was shining but
I wasn't even tempted to try for some trout. Barely took my dog for a walk.
When we get a day where temps get above freezing I'll be out trying some new
patterns I tied recently.

Re: [VFB] Health and weather

2020-02-18 Thread Pete Gramp
Been lurking a bit, so I felt I should send an email.
I'm working full time (from home) and in a Masters degree program (online
100%) at Drexel University full time. It doesn't leave much time for
fishing, but I never was one to brave the cold temps to fly fish much.
Mid-terms are coming up, and for one paper, the professor is preventing the
use of 1st person pronouns as well as prepositions. I can understand the
1st person pronouns being removed, as that is common - state the facts, and
leave the "feelings" or personal opinions out of the paper. But
prepositions? That is absurd. Here is an example I have of what the
resultant paper will contain:

Example:
"What are you doing, Pete?"
The prior version of the response:
"I'm eating with the family."
Professor's version of response:
"Eating the family."

Therefore, I must conclude this professor is pro-cannibalism.

True story, I just saw it through to its "logical" conclusion...

Re: [VFB] Health and weather

2020-02-14 Thread Gary Webb
Good to hear you're getting healthier Chuck. I'm doing well, but
Susan has had some setbacks. I won't go into details. Just keep us in
your prayers as I know you do. Weather here is typical Wisconsin in
February. Ten inches of snow last Sunday and minus 18 this morning. The
sun was shining but I wasn't even tempted to try for some trout. Barely
took my dog for a walk. When we get a day where temps get above freezing
I'll be out trying some new patterns I tied recently.

[VFB] Health and weather

2020-02-13 Thread Chuck Alexander
Folks: since the group is real slow, so I thought I'd send a health and
weather email out asking about everybody. How is everybody's health and
weather??? I FINALLY got over the pneumonia and dehydration I was
hospitalized because of for a few days back in November. I kept a hacking
cough for over three months before getting rid of if FINALLY . And I think
we have had rain for about 30 STRAIGHT. And I hope to fix a few more things
on my boat and boat trailer so we can boat fish as much as possible this yr
but it's always raining so I haven't been able to work on it. Hope everybody
is at least doing "fair to middlin' "as we say in the deep South here, Chuck
