Tied on a Peacock and Bronze. Had nothing for a while then I got a good fish on. I never did see it before breaking off. I had some 7X tipprt on my leader and had no other with me. Then I tied in a Peacock body nymph with a gold bead head. That did yeild a couple of Largmouth Bass. The takes were real slow, just felt the line tighten up and the fish was there. Had another take and when the bass came out of the water, he broke off. Tied in a Peackock body bugger. When I turned out of the wind, I noticed my wife back at the van waving me to come back. I could not belerve she was already finished. Heading back to the van I made another cast and hooked up with a Largmouth. That made five Bass, two break offs and one miss. Re: [VFB] Fishining this morning
I had some 8X once but you have to play the fish so long and carefully that I got rid of it. I still have some 7X for tiny midges. They do alright with the 3 WT rod as the tip protects the tippet. Still I prefer a heavier tippet so I can land the fish faster unless the fish are tippet shy. Re: [VFB] Fishining this morning
Jack, I could do that if I had a Mono Leader. I have been using furled leaders for over 10 years. Not really able to do that with a Furled thread leader. I will be sure to have some larger tippet material if I get to fish it again. Maybe I can get my wife to get a longer appointment next time. LOL To be honest, I thought the pond might have a couple of Gills in it, never expected Bass. The pond is real small, more of a rain catch basin in the parking lot right in town, I would guess about 60' X less than 100'. I have permission to fish the pond alongside the parking lot.I have never got to fish it because of time of the year or having my appointment. It was overcast and real windy but I gave it a shot.
Bass aren't at all leader shy. If you find yourself in that situation again, consider cutting back your tapered leader to a diameter that would allow you to land that big bass. Would cost you the price of a leader, which is less than the cost of a missed opportunity. jack Austin Anthony Spezio wrote: The reason I had 7X on was because I was fishing sz 26 midges for Trout on Tuesday. There was still a small Caddis hatch on and I was also using sz 16 and 18 tent wing Caddis. 6X would not work, trout were too finiky. I did not think about taking my vest with the tippit spools, I just grabbed the rod and a small box of flies. If I get to back to fish that pond again, I will have 4X on. Yes, I do have a problem tying on the small flies and the fine tippet.
