Re: [VFB] New Zealand

2017-04-13 Thread DonO
Reuven,

How are you doing?

I've used up the Aussie possum you sent. Have any more? I love the red-tinged
parts (more like orange).
Just include it with the EP pelt.
Send anything you can, and I'll tie some hybrid flies for you.
I want to tie bi-polar flies, but I need penguin for the south pole.

You can take a balloon ride over the city. See them a lot when I travel
out early. Fishing is not as good as New Zealand but is very challenging
too. Shame we didn't get to meet. Until next time.

2017-03-14 Thread Reuven Segal
i would see the every day I drove to work. They make great abstract art
of your bonnet. Only once did I hit one- 90 miles from home, two weeks
before I moved overseas, in my mother's car whilst on a fishing trip, at
1am in the middle of nowhere. I would see 4 or 5 new hits on the side of
the road every morning. No shortage around Melbourne. Actually, they
used to hop through my university campus before the surrounding area got
developed. I think I sent Jerry a patch 10 years ago or so. Makes for
some absolutley lovely flies...not that I ever skinned road kill
before ;)

Re: [VFB] New Zealand

2017-03-13 Thread J Balmer
I'll let you know when we come back, but we'll probably spend more time in
New Zealand. Rob was awesome, we had over 2" of rain the day before we
went out, so the rivers were out. We went to a lake about the same
distance from Rotorua that was spring & creek fed & we found great numbers
of trout.
Penguins were awesome, some passed right beneath my feet:)
Liked Melbourne, but we were there less than 48 hours & there's a lot we
didn't get to see & experience. On the list for the next time through:)

Lucky you!!

Let me know what you are after in terms of rivers or lakes.

Do you want a guide? I can put you in touch with someone recommended to me by
someone reliable.

One recommendation...get used to casting into a gale force wind.

Re: [VFB] New Zealand

2016-11-10 Thread Michael Bliss
Oh my, I am envious. I loved my fishing time in New Zealand. My main fly
was the Hare and Copper. It is kind of like the Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear. I
caught a lot of fish with it. I did not fish but maybe an hour around
Rotorua. A couple of small streams that entered the lake. I fished the
Tongariro with really good success and a number of rivers on the South
Island. I would suggest that you contact a local fly shop and get current
information. If you are taking your own equipment be ready to spend time
being "sanitized" It took half a day for me to clear my equipment and pay
the fees. Hope you have fun. I would go back in a heart beat.
