BTW, while we're on the subject: I'll be in the Bay Area from Sept 5-15
 and
would love to see people! In San Francisco 5th evening through 8th am,

Silicon Valley for a conference (Storage Developers - not exciting to this

 I
 leave to return to Europe.

Hi all. I am doing a shoot tomorrow - a garden party scene - and I
would love to see some of my fellow videobloggers there. Come have a
glass of wine on me, some food, help out as extras in a shoot. The
call for the shoot is 3:00. If you are available any time between 3:00
and 7:00 tomorrow, come out and say Hi. If you're available and

[videoblogging] Re: do video blogger care about privacy?

2007-08-25 Thread Jarod Dixon
I went through a period where it only freaked me out when somebody
from my past found a blog / video / whatever of mine and either made a
comment or emailed me direct.

Strangers I'm all good with oddly. I have been trying to not spread my
last name all over the net as often just to reduce googlability.

Jarod.

[videoblogging] vlogeurope2007

2007-08-25 Thread miglsd27
I hope this doesn´t sound like a sad email, though that is how I feel. I won´t
be able to make
it to Heidelberg, and so will miss all the fun and metting all the people (some
I met last year,
others for the first time). Best of times to all, be curious, have fun and vlog
till you drop.

Why was I hopping this didnt sound sad? Because I want to urge people to go.

Last year in Milan I took a leap into the unknown - litterally. I didn´t know
Milan or anyone
going. But the most wonderfull discovery was that all over the world, from very
different
backgrounds and experiences, from different ages and personal tastes there
where people
like me, that didn´t think it was weird to film all the time, and put video
online.

Jay Dedman once said these gatherings are very important, and he was right. So
if in doubt,
just jump up and go. Wish I was.

All the best,

Miguel.

Fear not, Miguel! You can attend virtually, which I know isn't the same but
it's the closest thing to coming. A lot of people just couldn't make it this
year.

For the Saturday sessions, we're streaming the entire event and will be
using the chat as a projected backchannel.

Raymond and I are also putting the finishing touches on the Sunday Vlogging
Heidelberg session, and we're coming up with ways for remote participants
to play along.

Stay tuned. I'll be posting more information here later this week.

And if anybody has any questions about Vlog Europe, please feel free to mail
me or Raymond.

Bonne Soirée de Paris,

Jeffrey

Re: [videoblogging] do video blogger care about privacy?

2007-08-25 Thread Jay dedman
And I note that the culture on this list seems to be very open - for
example, I often find cell phone numbers on some of the most active list
participants on their sites, or even in email signatures ... as a group, it
seems to me that we are very open in that way. I remember, in one video, Jay
Dedman showing his new apartment, and commenting that the extra room was for
anyone watching who needed an extra room when they were in New York

for me, i always hated the kind of culture where people dont talk to each other.
I grew up in the kind of household.
I worked at CNN for a couple and left feeling like a stranger.
Ive lived in many apartment buildings where I may only see 5 people in
the hallways for a whole year.

the great thing about urban environments is the anonymity.
But it can also seems pointless to me.
we can never have power if we arent talking to each other about the
things that matter to us.
Ive grown a suspicion that we barely even know how to talk about the
things we care about.

This group is interesting because we go out of our way to meet each
other in person.
people are flying all around the world to meet up.
flying from Europe to NYC to go to rooftop BBQ?
amazing.

for me, its just nice to be myself without repercussions.
I didnt feel comfortable at CNN being the weird guy that I ambut i
can do it in the videos I make.
If someone goes online to seeks out my videos, then good. welcome.
If someone calls my cell number in my email signature, cool.
I guess violence is the worse thing that can happen...but I think we
all know that people are good.
local news is the new cartoon.
Its really our leaders and trusted companies that I worry about.

[videoblogging] Win a Showcase Billing at the Improv Was: Grouper - now Crackle

2007-08-25 Thread bordercollieaustralianshepherd
I caught a segment on ABC mentioning http://imoondo.com and
discovered this http://crackle.com through imoondo's blog.

http://crackle.com/contest/details.aspx?idContest=1

Entries close in 3 Days 17 Hours 25 Minutes
Think you're funny? Prove it. And, if you do, you could find yourself
with a 15-minute set on the famous IMPROV stage. If you've got what it
takes to captivate, entertain and most importantly make an audience
laugh – enter the High Wire contest and you might end up flying to LA,
New York or Chicago. The winner will perform a Thursday, Friday or
Saturday night set on the very stage that launched the careers
of…well, just about every famous comedian you've ever heard of

And they have do's and don't. My eye was immediately drawn to this one
...

DO - Use English language (should there be a the between Use and
English?). Is this inclusive of Broken English? Queens English? Sorry
Paul, looks like you may not be allowed to try out. Old English?

Don't - - Submit videos over 40 minutes long (I can only assume
their Judging panel have a maximum attention span of no greater than
40 minutes).

I have seen several very funny people's work as a result of this
group. Anyway, looked like something to share. If anyone from here
enters, good luck.

We have a sometimes problem with a google group that mirrors this list.
It was started by an old member and seems to attract spam.
If someone has any suggestions on how to deal with it, im all ears.
