Also, we use Vidmetrix.com to track our videos, but their new
multi-uploading system failed when I tried it.

For stats though, it's very accurate. Or I should say, as accurate as the
stats that the video sharing sites report. Most folks in the know will tell
you those are debatable.

Re: [videoblogging] A Video Middle Class?

2007-09-26 Thread Mike Meiser
My favorite example is ArtistShare

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ArtistShare

Already they've had two musicians win grammies. One in Jazz and the
other I believe was in Latin Music.

I've always dreamed of some sort of crowd funded journalism.

i.e. 115 people looking for someone to cover podcamp san fran.

The closest thing I've seen is Alive in bagdad and Mexico. The issue
is I think you have to build an institution around an idea, like a
newspaper, or an artist (like artistshare builds around musicians), or
a brand. it's to much work to rais money for every event, you have to
build the equity in the videographer or artist.

I am looking for a video upload tool (or website) that will allow me
to upload my videos to multiple sites online all at once. I have gone
crazy putting my files everywhere and I am sure that some of you know
the best resources for simplifying this process. Right now I am
uploading to blip, veoh, youtube, google, myspace, metacafe, vimeo,

podshow and maybe a few others as well.

I need to know which one will upload to the most sites to simplify my

[videoblogging] Collaborative Video

2007-09-26 Thread Shawn Carpenter
I want to put together a cool collaboration with other video bloggers
out there. I plan on shooting a music video to go with the song This
is not Miami. It’s a really cool house/techno song. If you listen to
it during the course of the song they mention at least 20 different
cities from all over the world. What I need from everyone out there
in the vlogging community are 10-15 second clips of either the
downtown section of your city or some still photos of your city
skyline. If you happen to live in one of the cities mentioned in the
song that is a huge bonus to me! Some examples that I would like to
see are standing in between the tallest buildings in your city and
spinning with the camera. I could also use some shots of the most
busy streets at their most busy times just to capture the hustle and
bustle of city life. Get creative, all I need is just a few seconds
of your life!

My preferred resolution is 640 x 480 shot at 30fps. I can edit all
video formats, so there is no need for anyone to convert their footage
for me.

2007-09-26 Thread Jan McLaughlin
Feel a bit like a broken record but if you advertise things you really like
- dare I say 'love' - you can't really go too far wrong.

Advertise your fave internet cafe, fave restaurant, mom-n-pop hardware
store, fave soft and hardware.

Think hyper-local. Hyper-local to the vlogspace.

Folks you already know.

Get monthly credit at their establishments for your vlog posts about them or
for setting up their business with a vlog.

That's a start.

Streeter, do the bars at which you film give you free beers / food?

[videoblogging] Request for Video Conent for News Show

2007-09-26 Thread Richard Bluestein
Hi,
I produce a show called Eclectic News Brief (eclecticnewsbrief.com)
and have recently stepped up production to about two shows per week. I
am looking for video content to use as background and foreground
footage which is unrelated to the topic of the show. I'm looking for
provocative and bizzare footage, preferably original content.

The show gets a nice sized audience so your reward for letting me use
your content would be a free promotion for your own vlog. Please have
a look at some of the past episodes to see the kind of thing I'm
looking for. The weirder the better.

I think this is a great way for fringy vloggers. (i.e. weirdos like
me) to gain audience.

Any questions and submissions, please email me [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Kind Regards
Richard Bluestein

This notion of making a living doing your VLOG is fascinating, and I
believe - doable. But in order to do it, and still be the creative
person you want to be - I suspect that you really have to think about
different ways of present - or positioning your material. If you use
the Public Radio or Public TV model, you just ask folks to "pledge" so
that you can continue offering them information that they want. The
difficulty with this approach for the average vlogger is that most
vloggers have one or maybe 2 things that they are interested in
producing - where PTV or PR has many many different offerings that
people are pledging to support.

Another way that I think about what I'm doing is to see this as a
showcase that I can use to gather support for more long-form projects.

A third way that folks are trying - such as Jay and Ryanne is to
become a channel for someone who is aggregating content. Drew has
been doing his own version of this by being the aggregator himself.

I don't think there is any real answer yet - it's just too new. The
music people can do it because they sell songs individually - and
frankly people like to listen to them multiple times.

Just some thoughts. This is an excellent conversation.

Pretty cool so long as in the long run, it does not translate into a
smaller percentage getting to the artist.

Sure was a lot of negotiating in the run up. 20,000 independent labels
were signed. How do they do that? Invite them all to a hall? Mind
boggling logistics. Even a team of 200 lawyers would each have a
hundred contracts to juggle. Anyone know Martha Stewart? She is my
kinda of woman. Smart, attractive and comes with a staff.

Damn I need a staff.

Amazon.com Launches Public Beta of Amazon MP3, a Digital Music Store
Offering Customers Earth's Biggest Selection of a la Carte DRM-Free
MP3 Music Downloads

Amazon MP3 Offers Over 2 Million Songs From More Than 180,000 Artists
and Over 20,000 Labels, Including EMI Music and Universal Music Group

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2007--Amazon.com, Inc.
(NASDAQ:AMZN) today launched a public beta of "Amazon MP3," a new
digital music download store with Earth's biggest selection of a la
carte DRM-free MP3 music downloads. Amazon MP3 has over 2 million
songs from more than 180,000 artists represented by over 20,000 major
and independent labels. Amazon MP3 complements Amazon.com's existing
selection of over 1 million CDs to now offer customers more selection
of physical and digital music than any other retailer.

"Amazon MP3 is an all-MP3, DRM-free catalog of a la carte music from
major labels and independent labels, playable on any device, in
high-quality audio, at low prices," said Bill Carr, Amazon.com Vice
President for Digital Music. "This new digital music service has
already been through an extensive private beta, and today we're
excited to offer it to our customers as a fully functional public
beta. We look forward to receiving feedback from our customers and
using their input to refine the service."

Every song and album on Amazon MP3 is available exclusively in the MP3
format without digital rights management (DRM) software. This means
that Amazon MP3 customers are free to enjoy their music downloads
using any hardware device, including PCs, Macs(TM), iPods(TM),
Zunes(TM), Zens(TM), iPhones(TM), RAZRs(TM), and BlackBerrys(TM);
organize their music using any music management application such as
iTunes(TM) or Windows Media Player(TM); and burn songs to CDs.

Most songs are priced from 89 cents to 99 cents, with more than 1
million of the 2 million songs priced at 89 cents. The top 100
best-selling songs are 89 cents, unless marked otherwise. Most albums
are priced from $5.99 to $9.99. The top 100 best-selling albums are
$8.99 or less, unless marked otherwise.

Every song on Amazon MP3 is encoded at 256 kilobits per second, which
gives customers high audio quality at a manageable file size.

Buying and downloading MP3s from Amazon MP3 is easy. Customers can
purchase downloads using Amazon 1-Click(TM) shopping, and with the
Amazon MP3 Downloader, seamlessly add their MP3s to their iTunes or
Windows Media Player libraries.

Amazon MP3 has over 2 million songs from more than 180,000 artists
spanning every genre of music, including 50 Cent, Alison Krauss, Amy
Winehouse, Ani DiFranco, Arcade Fire, Beastie Boys, Coldplay,
Creedence Clearwater Revival, Ella Fitzgerald, Feist, John Coltrane,
KT Tunstall, Keith Urban, Koko Taylor, Lily Allen, Madeleine Peyroux,
Maroon 5, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, Morrissey, Nelly, Nickel Creek,
Nirvana, Norah Jones, Paul McCartney, Philip Glass, Pink Floyd,
Pixies, Radiohead, Ray Charles, Rod Stewart, Spoon, Stevie Wonder, The
Chemical Brothers, The Decemberists, and The Rolling Stones.

"Well done Amazon for making so much music available to so many
people," said KT Tunstall. "It's good to know, in the words of The
King, you're taking care of business!"

Leading independent labels offering their catalog of music for the
first time as DRM-free MP3s include Alligator Records, HighTone
Records, Madacy Entertainment, Sanctuary Records, Rounder Records,
Righteous Babe Records, Sugar Hill Records, and Trojan Records.

I'm with you, David. As Popeye once said, "I yam what I yam".

Funny is not a descriptive word of my work. Cute sometimes, but not funny. And
I do think
many of us make videos that are very popular, maybe not in the m/billions of
views, but
most definitely into the hundreds of thousands and beyond. This has value too.

[videoblogging] Video project

2007-09-26 Thread Adrian Miles
hi all

not sure if this been seen. Florian is the maker of the Korsakow
system http://www.korsakow.com/ksy/ > a very nice tool for
making interactive video. He's obviously picked up funding for a US
project, so I imagine some on the list would be interested in
participating?

Do you know a "real" American? Are you one yourself?

A German documentary filmmaker and new-media artist, with the support
of the Goethe-Institut New York, will be traveling through the United
States by motorcycle from October 1 until November 15, 2007, and he
wants to understand the American way of life.

He wants to know what makes Americans tick, so he's looking for
people who are typical of the United States - whatever you think
typical means. It could be you or someone you know. Once his trip
starts, he will write about his experiences, collect stories, and
conduct interviews, posted daily as a video weblog, or "vlog," at
1000stories.com.

The filmmaker's route will be determined by you, i.e. the interested
folks in the U.S. who get in touch with him via this form and suggest
potential interview candidates. So please help him!
