[videoblogging] Did you hear about MyspaceTV's new upgrades?

2008-09-10 Thread Nick Schmidt
I heard through the grapevine that myspace is going to have:(I think
starting tomorrow)

1. Direct webcam upload to MyspaceTV, that you can use it for
bulletins, comments, blogs, and more.
2. They got rid of the time length restriction for the videos. So the
time the # of videos uploaded is unlimited. But with the new maxium
for video files are 512MB.

So that is awesome the new max for video files are 512MB and you can
integrate videos to comments, bulletins, and etc...

What do you think?

[videoblogging] Re: I'm Paul from MySpaceTV

2008-07-02 Thread Nick Schmidt
Hey everyone. I'm the Nick Schmidt that Paul mentioned in the post. I
have an awesome scar, yes...

I have talked to Paul a little bit about using MySpaceTv.

Just last night, I probably deleted about 25 people from the vlogger
group because they deleted their account on MySpace.

I think the main problem that everyone will have to deal with is
changing the brand image of MySpace.com. MySpace has turned into more
of a spammy social network and I think a lot of people are switching
over to facebook. Harsh? no... Just keeping it real. I just think that
is what people perceive MySpace now.

Me? Well I use both..I think a majority of us use both.

I think offline events would be awesome! I think that would be one of
the 1st steps in changing the brand image.

I'm not talking about parties in a club where you can't talk to
anyone. I'm talking about place where you can actually start
relationships with people and communicate. You can see them face to
face. Not just some profile pic from MySpace.

Kind of like tech cocktail, tweetups, or something like that.

what do you think?

Then lunarpages will send you a welcome email which, amoungst other

I just thought since everyone is talking on this post I should too.
Just for fun.

I don't understand why everyone is a little mad about the whole
Vloggies thing.

It is a little shady if they did get the trademark name that Irina
made up and worked so hard on The Vloggies.

But if they have the rights to it, just like before, ( i think Kent
said something) the awards shows will be handled just like the history
of the emmy's other popular award shows.

So if they say they are going to handle it like that, I mean what can
we do? Nothing, except like a protest. That is kind of what it sounds

Oh well..I just think the power is out of each individuals hands and

[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

--when you say the need to cite contentmust the sources be

I agree that's it's very silly to say that the definition of a video
blog
should to come from traditional media. The idea is this: Wikipedia
has to
set a standard so how low should they set it?

Wikipedia says that articles should be based on reliable, published
sources
because this involves a reliable publication process. i.e. if we
lowered
the bar to blogs, anyone could write anything and cite themselves
because
there's no reliable publication process. So are blogs excluded? No.
Blogs
can still be used but the main point should be backed up by a reliable
source. That means if I want to write about how the definition is
under
debate, I'll have to find a reliable source to show that this debate
is
notable, and then i can use a blog (or other less reliable source) as
a
another source to give more examples.

--also, from your user history it looks like the Vlog entry is the
only one you are working with? Maybe you could explain a bit
of your background so we know where you're coming from. You
are obviously very interested in defining the subject of
videoblogging.

I contribute to a few articles. The Video blog article being the main
one.
And recently, due to this discussion, there's been a lot of progress
on it
and i've been working with other editors to source the timeline and
hopefully this momentum will keep going. I used to have a vlog with
my
roommate but then I bought a condo and we both got our own places. I
naturally got pretty busy after moving and never got back into it.

I guess the confusion comes from defining a topic that is still very
new. You are bumping up against the passion/frustration in this group
since many people here have helped shape what videoblogging is. You
can understand it's a little ironic that we need to quote a
traditional newspaper that may have to one of usin order to add
to
 the Vlog entry.

So i agree that everything must be verifiable...but lets define how
what these sources must be for a new field. Very often I find the
best
wikipedia articles of new topics simply record the controversy and
different ways of thinking. Can we at least document our differing
 points of view?

Well, personally I'm starting to lean towards Richard BFs definition
because
videoblogs seem to be a genre now more than a website structure.

But that's just my opinion. I agree that the definition is changing
and
doesn't even necessarily apply to the one in the article but my
opinion
 doesn't belong in an encyclopedia.

Ok, so reliable sources seem to say that vlogs are blogs with video.
Let's
take the dispute over the definition. Though the dispute may seem
notable
to you, me and other videobloggers in the group, Wikipedia has a
policy on
what is considered notable. Until a reliable source talks about the
dispute,
we have to assume that the general public doesn't know about it or
care
about it and that the dispute is, consequently, unencyclopedic. Until
a
reliable sources uses a different definition, the old definition is
all we
can use in the encyclopedia article.

I think that's the issue here. People usually think that because
Wikipedia
is online, you can make an article about anything. What people may
not
realize is that wikipedia really strives to have encyclopedic content
and
hundreds of articles and contributions are deleted everyday. Many
more than
are actually kept. I had my first article deleted. I didn't agree
with it
at first but I came to realize that Cooking Kitty Corner wasn't
exactly a
notable video blog. :P I also started getting into Wikipedia a lot
more and
it's definitely a hobby of mine now.

So should reliable sources be defined differently? Maybe. There's
discussions all the time on Wikipedia policies. but as it is, we have
to go
with the current consensus on what is a reliable source.

[videoblogging] Re: Hyperlinks in Video

2007-04-03 Thread Nick Schmidt
If figured that Flash didn't work. I just wanted confirmation.

Hmm.. Well I have played around with it for hours and go no where. Yes
I could use that software that David Meade mentioned. But I already
paid a lot of money for this software and computer..

Hmm.. I will download the app that Rocketboom uses and try that.
However I just watched today episode and I didn't find any hyperlinks
that were in the quicktime video that would work.

I just found links in the comments section.

Thanks for all your help. If i find any advancement... I will let you
know.

Although through this group. I did find this.. which kind of works..
check it out .. quick and easy.. not sure how to use it or edit it
with my video though.

[videoblogging] Hyperlinks in Video

2007-04-02 Thread Nick Schmidt
Does anyone know how to hyperlink within a Video?

Meaning: The outro of the video has a URL displayed. If someone clicks
on the URL display it directly goes to your website.

Does that make sense?

If you know how or can directly me to a link where I could learn how
to do this, I (and others of this group) would be greatly appreciated.

So can you reply with some links where I can find out how to do this?

Thanks,
Nick Schmidt

Wow!!! Thanks for the response everyone!! I'm learning some good things!!

So if I use any of these softwares or use quicktime and make the
hyperlink and put it in the video, well it work in Flash? or just
in the .mov or what?

What files are compatible?

This blog has been locked by Blogger's spam-prevention robots.
Blogger's spam-prevention robots have detected that your blog has
characteristics of a spam blog. Since you're an actual person reading
this, your blog is probably not a spam blog. Automated spam detection
is inherently fuzzy, and we sincerely apologize for this false positive.

We received your unlock request on March 4, 2007. On behalf of the

while we take a look at your blog and verify that it is not spam.

So some of Googles robots are looking for same within blog in Blogger.
I just had to fill out some documentation to become unlocked. What I
had to fill out is exactly how it is when you post a comment. That is
when you to fill out a image graphic password to make sure you are a
real person, to allow your comment to be post.

Has this happened to anyone else? How long did it take to become approved?

I think it is just from the mass popularity. maximum exposure. I have

[videoblogging] RSS Reader Flash Video Works

2007-03-02 Thread Nick Schmidt

Just today I was using Google Reader and I saw that Google Reader allows
me to subscribe to a website RSS feed as normal. But if the website/vlog
has the Youtube.com flash video file embeded, it uploads in Google
Reader too. I have never seen that.

Try it yourself and see. Find a video on Youtube.com, copy the embeded
code on your post (i used blogger) and post the entry. Then subscribe to
your blog with the RSS using Google Reader. Then in Google reader you
will be able to see the video just as if it was on the website. You
don't have to download anything like fireant, it just a straight up
flash video. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like:

I thought Flash video can NOT be displayed in the RSS feed with a RSS
reader?

Is this true?
Does anyone happen to know what RSS readers work for the Blip.tv flash?
Or any Flash video that works with any RSS reader?
Or is this just something Google fixed when they acquired Youtube.com?
Meaning they are the 1st to do this...

Blip doesn't work with google reader and that actually flash video
doesn't really work with many aggregator/reader. I know about fireant
works.

I also spoke to some people at feedburner to see if it is something are
their side... Nope.. It is all based on the RSS reader in order for the
flash video to work.

My assumption is that after Google acquired Youtube.com they developed a
way to see embeded video in an RSS feed reader (Google Reader)

Let me know,

already know.

 Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbPetrK_6Lc

The interesting thing I think for the video blogging community is that
Max first came to the attention of AJE indirectly through his
videoblogging and podcasting work. They had read an article about our
work. And, though they are an international broadcaster, we didn't
have to alter our style of working or compromise the content of our

Anyway, there are many more films for AJE coming soon from us . . . !
