[videoblogging] understanding stats....

2005-12-12 Thread Share
okay. i'm confused about the stats on videoblogs and am hoping someone
can explain it a bit more to me.
we use blip.tv to upload our media. on their site, i can view how many
people have viewed each piece.
then, we have feedburner as well.

why are the two numbers s different?

for example: on blip, one episode mov/windows combined shows over 2000
downloads but the feedburner feed only shows around 150 in a 24 hour
period.

even considering that there could 150 for 3 days running (how long
it's been up for), it still
doesn't add up to over 2000 viewers. this is where i'm completely baffled.

can anyone explain this to me in layperson terms?

thank you!

Finally, let me close by saying thank you that you think our show

through creating each and every second of every episode. I guess in
some ways vlogging feels like the culmination of many aspects of our
passions, art, music, film, lifestyle, pop culture, exposing corporate

[videoblogging] Re: What are vlog shows like Rock n Roll TV?

2005-12-03 Thread Share

It's amazing that the slickest promoters can't catch the edge
the way free artists can. I had a long discussion with a much younger
friend as to whether your show was real or slick promotion. We both
decided, you had to be the real deal because some things (like
flushing the paper down the toilet) were just a bit too much for the
really slick.

What was really funny was the time i smashed in to the toilet roll
holder and broke it! ha!!

There is a documentary (I suspect you've already seen) that I would
recommend to you and others interested in the strange way art and
advertising conjoin and then converge. I believe the title is How To
Become A Target in Advertising. This young fellow essentially shares
a video record of his adventures joining some record company, becoming
the very successful editor of their record-club-newsletter.

Suddenly, the newsletter is really having an impact because he has
imparted a realness to its content. But, in the end, the corporate
mentality crushes it all.

They play the same 1000 shows on Sundance over and over again. I'm
sure it will pop up again.

We do not have cable or satellite or any of that. Just a dvd player
hooked up to a TV. So alas, I have neither seen it nor heard of it!
(We are the only people I know who have never seen American Idol,
Rockstar or Survivor! and proud of it.)

My apologies for not having paid attention to your show before.
There are so many tired and uninteresting music videos dropped in on
Blip. I'm an old hippie who likes folk, rock, country and old Spanish
music. I did go wild for a music video I stumbled on by McFly which I
considered hard rock but which others assured me was actually soft
rock.

Well, our mates consider us 'punk hippies' because we are so anal in
our intent and the way we view art. But I know what you mean about
music...yes, the stuff we like stems from Led Zeppelin, The
Stones, The Sex Pistols and that sort of loud guitar rock music.
Definitely not folk, but our personal outlooks are probably very similar.

I liked the old MTV (probably before your time) in the 1980s when
they had no commercials, no silly shows, just music and the kind you
find now on VH1. Keep up the good work! Glad you've seen some of my
vlogs. They're very varied so don't form any opinions till you've
seen a half dozen or more.

A yes. MTV before the 'programming' era. No, I remember it.
That is a part of what we want to bring back...but really just the
passion about music. I miss that version of MTV! I remember being
glued to the television just staring at all those music videos.
A.we were so naive and innocent! Before you had to bribe them
to get your video played. The stories I could tell.

Cherz backatcha.

ps. And now I'm in to the studio to engineer a recording session with

agreed on all counts. but the paint can go a lng way depending on
how big of an area you need to cover. or if you're setting up a

2005-11-18 Thread Share
Wow! Fan-bloody-tastic!
Can't wait to see your vlog about it and congrats on experiencing such
an unusual event.
Sorry to hear about Mr. Cavett. I remember him, too and he was an
amazingly aware and articulate host.

cheers.

That was the title of an event held this evening at Steven Kasher
Gallery, 521 W. 23rd St, NYC. It was sponsored by a 501C group called
The Creative Coalition. Membership costs $250 a year. However, a
great art exhibit consisting of body images in video can be seen for
free for a few more days. I suggest you attend.

I contacted them a few hours before the event, said I was a vlogger
(someone who did video and posted it on the Internet) and asked to be
put on the list.

I held my breath as I checked in downstairs. My name was on the
list and I found myself mixing with the media elite. Catherine Crier,
anchor of Court TV, was the moderator. The panel consisted of
actor/comedian/writer Richard Belzer (Law Order:SVU), Time Blake
Nelson (Actor, Syiuana, Meet the Fockers, Minority Report, o Brother,
Where Are Thou?), Dick Cavett (legendary Emmy Award winning talk show
host) and Bill Devlin (a born-again Christian with enough sense to
stay in the Democratic Party whom I had once debated on the issue of
human reproductive cloning at Haverford College in Pennsylvania).

Thanks to my good Christian friend, Bill Devlin, I was made aware of
the event and managed to get in--even though there was a notice that
press credentials would be checked. I took a Time Magazine with my
picture in it along to flash if I was challenged. It proved not to be
necessary.

I also urged three other vloggers( Jay Dedman, Jonny Goldstein and
Adam Quirk) to join me in a vloggers-take-on-the-establishment
exercise. Adam was working. Jay and Jonny never got back to me. I
went alone.

I'm always amazed at how thin the partition is between the plebian
world of everyday-vlogger-life and the glittering world of famous
celebrities and people with real power.

So, there I was in the elite world of blue activism (???). There
was an open bar (always to be avoided) and orderves enough to make you
feel totally elite.

On the walls were ads, fabulous and sexy ads, which you'd have to
spend half a lifetime thumbing through magazines to find. I never
knew so many sexy and hot ads existed. I got to film them all for my
vlog (or vlogs) about this event.

I handed out my pink slips promoting Join the Media Revolution
with links to Freevlog and this site. Of course, I plugged my own
site and email address at the end.

Waiting in line at the bathroom, I gave my pink fliers to two of the
organizers of the event. Events on the wall of the gallery looked
very liberal and leftist to me. No problem there.

I joined the audience and stood up against a wall near the front
filming the entire event. It was quite fascinating. I filmed famous
people telling stories about famous people...including Dick Cavet
talking about how Yoko Ono and John Lennon who sang a song entitled (I
believe) Women are the niggers of the world--and how that caused
censorship which he avoided with a lead-in that got more complaints
than the song didetc, etc.

Well, after it was all over, I got to smooze with the celebs. I
gave Catherine Crier a pink flier and told her that vlogging was the
new revolution which was bound to raise interesting new legal issues
in the near future. At least it got into her purse.

Then I turned my camera on Click Cavett, one of my 'old heroes' of
television. I couldn't resist the urge to say: Mr. Cavett, I vlog
and put my videos on the Internet. Could I ask you a 'politically
incorrect' question?

Cavett looked open so I popped the question.

How old are you? I asked.

How old do you think I am? Cavett replied.

You're older than me (I'm 67). You have to be at least 75. (I was
being kind. He's in his 80s I suspect).

Oh, 'you and your silly little camera' (italics mine) Cavett
replied and moved on without answering my question.

So, tonight one of my 'idols' died. The man who was always upfront
and free and who took political correctness to task was 'too
traditionally' uptight to tell me his real age. That was really sad,
for me.

Bill Devlin, my Christian friend, who had enabled me to attend, made
fun of me for being an Immortalist when he realized I was the fellow
who had been filming him all evening.

It was a great event and I'll be doing a vlog about it. You'll have
to wait a couple days.

Interesting point about folks in cafes etc. Hadn't considered that
angle. It does make me think it's important to include the wmv file as
a peace offering.
since we have both pc and mac in our home, i was looking at this
software and wondered if anyone had used it?
http://www.alivemedia.net/download-video-converter.htm

but it's only for windows.
i think the price is $29 or so.

re: videoegg..i use typepad and tried videoegg for about one
minute. i just didn't like the fact that we didn't have much control
over anything!

since my director/editor spends so much time doing what he does, i
don't mind installing the alive video converter and using my pc to
convert the mov over for windows users. Butif anyone has any other
ideas?

if anyone else has any other opinionsi'm all codec'd ears and eyes.

Okay. trick question. but it's in regards to the size of the
compressed mov file. does anyone have any recommended file sizes to
  stay within?
Interested in hearing opinions on this in regards to the best
  codecs...and the overall size ideals.

 its changing.
when i first started in 2004we tried to keep our videos under
1MB. haha
then it seemd like 20mb was okay.
now id say you could do 100mb if youre really offering up something i
 want to watch.

it all depends on your hosting.
if youre on a free service...your just limited by their
storage/bandwidth.
if youre using your own server, then you can do whatever you want to
pay for.

[videoblogging] Hello - another newbie!

2005-11-03 Thread Share
Hello Vloggers!

Wow! This community is full of great posts that have already helped
me! My hubby and I have a million things going on and decided
vlogging was the next step. He's already an FCP editor and we shoot a
lot of 'stuff'

So, we've got camera, filming, editing and... the QT compression thing
down prtty good. (could always be better, right?)

Already got a blog on typepad and another one that has never been used
on Blogger.

My total lame newbie question is this..what is the easiest way
(besides videoegg which I tested and don't like) to embed QT player
with a jpg or poster.mov in typepad?

I found some code that sort of works but I would have to upload the
mov to typepad and I am hoping to store it all at ourmedia/archive.

So far, I've only been able to link to an URL to make it all work.

yikes! Do I even make sense?

Sorry if the answer has been repeated on here. I have seriously
searched for hours and am hoping for a bit of code I can alter and up,
up and away.

Cheers and rock on with your bad vlogging selves.

Hey Jay,

Thanks for the welcome!

Re:
be careful about the embedded playerright now the video loads up
as soon as I open the URL.
I think I changed it so it does not auto play. Is that what you mean?

(you might have to refresh)

re: might not be what you want especially when you have 10 videos on a
page.
YES! Indeed not what I want! Ideally, I want to load jpgs as
clickable links to play the movies within the page. It's just a
preference but I hate when mov's load in 'blank target'. But maybe
I'm overeacting to that.

re: the feed. Yes, for now, I've kept it 'not public' and have not
used any of the feed sources. I use them all for my regular blogs and
once we have an actual 'episode'believe meI will be all
over the place with feeds!

I plan to read the documents you guys have stored up on feeds and all
that as well to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Again, thank you for the excellent group. If anyone can clarify how
to keep the player embedded with a link to an URL and use a
jpg.I'm all ears and typing code!

cheers.
