[videoblogging] New Videoblog: Water Words That Work
Hi Videobloggers, I've been lurking on this list for YEARS, ever since I saw the third episode of Rocketboom way back in the pre-YouTube days. I'm proud to report that I finally finally finally joined the cool kids and launched a videoblog of my own a few weeks back. It's called Water Words That Work and it explores the topic of science communications for nature protection and pollution control. http://waterwordsthatwork.com I'm working hard on this. I post two or three new videos each week. Traffic is pretty good and I'm starting to get a respectable number of comments and emails. For the geeks among you, here are the stats: The blog is Word Press. I tweaked the theme myself. I'm hosting it at BlueHost. It's cheap and fairly reliable. I edit the video using a software package called Visual Communicator. It's a little buggy but the teleprompter and green screen effects are worth the occasional hassle. My computer is a pretty new HP laptop with a built in webcam. I host the videos on BlueHost, and run them through AdBright, which provides an advertising revenue sharing program kind of like Revver and BlipTV. Many of my viewers are government scientists, and the agencies they work for often block Blip, Revver, and YouTube. So hosting the vids myself to get around the luddite free-speech hating censors at HQ. Check it out and tell me what you think: http://waterwordsthatwork.com Eric Eckl Water Words That Work http://waterwordsthatwork.com
[videoblogging] Re: Capturing Websites on Video
Is there any trick or tool to capturing footage of a website scrolling? I love Verdi's Freevlog tutorials where you follow his mouse-pointer around various sites. Is it best just to point your camera at your PC's screen, or is there a better way to capture a webpage in motion? SnagIt by TechSmith will do the trick. Free 30 day trial. $40 to buy. It's a screen capture program that will record screen motion to video, among other things. It's an astonishingly useful little program. Eric Yahoo! [videoblogging] Tagging clips for remixing?
Hey Gang, I have accumulated quite a collection of video clips that I would like to repurpose and recycle into a forthcoming videoblog. I'm looking for a way to catalog and sort the clips so I can find the one I'm looking for quickly and easily, and then drag and drop it into the timeline. My dream scenario is to be able to tag the individual clips in the collection the way you can tag a photo in Flickr or tag a link in Del.icio.us. I'm happy to store the clips on my harddrive or on the Internet. Any suggestions? Eric http://strollingbones.blogspot.com Yahoo! [videoblogging] Re: Tagging clips for remixing?
Might seem like it takes a long time; but each windows file has a field called keywords that you can permanently affix keywords to a file; then when you do a search for a word in the file, you can search for one of your keywords, and it will show you the videos you put that key word against. Like I said, that's the long way, but it's the way to do it without any additional software, and it will work with any file format. Hi Susan, Thanks! That sounds just perfect. I know I'm going to have to tag those files one way or another. I poked around Windows Explorer, but I didn't find any way to attach keywords to a file. How would I do that? Stephanie, Are you posting video directly to your blog from your cell phone? I am DYING to learn how to do that. I have a Motorola e815. I scooted over to Lifeblog, and seems very Nokia-oriented. [videoblogging] Re: vodcasts in cellphones
I picked up a Verizon cell phone a couple of weeks ago, and I am quite satisfied with it on two out of three areas. I'm satisfied with the phone as a multimedia capture/send device. The pictures aren't bad and I can post them directly from the phone to Blogger. The 15 second video clips aren't bad either and I can send them to any e-mail address. You can't post a video to Blogger directly from the phone just yet, but I'm sure they are working on it. Typing out text messages on the number pad is tedious -- but you can also record a voice-memo to describe what the photo or video is about and attach it to the same e-mail. Slick. I'm also surprisingly satisfied with the Verizon V-cast network. The selection isn't amazing but there's enough stuff I want (Daily Show, CNN) to justify the monthly fee. The streaming video quality is very good. I am not at all satisfied with the phone for web browsing/videoblog viewing/email receiving. I can't for the life of me figure out how to watch any videoblogs on the phone. No Rocketboom, no MobuzzTV. It's strange to me that the phone can capture and send 3GP video and WAV files in an email, but if somebody emails files in those formats to the phone, nada. If my wife sends a long text email to the phone, it cuts it off after a few lines. All in all, it's really quite amazing to me what this phone can do. I'm sure these things will continue to improve. Is there a Yahoo! Group where people devote a lot of attention to phones the way this group devotes attention to videoblogging? Eric http://strollingbones.blogspot.com Yahoo! [videoblogging] Re: WSJ article on downloadable TV
I'm not convinced the networks make it in a downloadable, pay-per- view world of the future. For the time being, it's an additional source of revenue. Over a longer period of time, it's a trend that works against them. In the old days (and still today), the producers of various shows want to partner with a network because the network have the broadcast infrastructure. But in the emerging paradigm, if a producer can make a profit selling individual episodes of their show over the Internet straight to the consumer, what's the motivation to split the revenue with a network? Aside from entertainment, I think a lot of documentary style programming will come out of various organizations that will offer it for free to support their mission or agenda. The World Wildlife Fund will produce nature shows, the NRA will create Cops types of programming, the ACLU will do muckracking pieces about the government, etc... Right now these guys spend a lot of money on spin doctors to try to get on TV news. Soon enough they'll realize they can just do it themselves. All of these entities would be wise to consider the Videoblog model over the podcast model. Why NOT let your fans discusss each episode? [videoblogging] Cell Phone Video Primer?
Hi Gang, It looks like I am about to switch jobs and have to return the company blackberry. This is a very good thing, but the new employer doesn't provide a cellphone as part of the deal. Since I'm gonna have to spring for my own phone, it might as well be a video-enabled cellphone so I can fool around with mobile vlogging. Are there any good primers out there that would help me get started? A Freevlog for the moblog set? I need to get a handle on what to look for in a video cell phone. Is there a difference between a cellphone for taking video and one for watching it? I'd also like some advice as how to configure a blog so I can post videos from whereever. [videoblogging] Werid stretched video frame in Blogger
Hey Folks, I wonder if anyone can help me out with this. I usually export my videos from Adobe Premiere Elements at the standard 320 x 240 size (Windows Media files). They look fine if I open the file up from my hard drive. When I watch them in the webpage, they look horizontally stretched. The screen is simply not the same shape. Here's the code I use to imbed the Windows Media Player in the blog post: object data=http://members.cox.net/anikaeckl/intro.wmv; type=video/x-ms-wmv width=320 height=240 / param name=FileName value=http://members.cox.net/anikaeckl/intro.wmv; / param name=ShowControls value=true / param name=AutoStart value=0 / param name=PlayCount value=0 / /object Any idea what's going on? [videoblogging] Re: Movie Maker Crashes All The Time
There is a resource for Movie Maker at http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/ I had the same problem. It turns out that MM is alergic to the DIVX codec, which is what my little camcorder exports. I switched up to Adobe Premiere Elements, which is supremely stable. I still fire up MM when I want to compress a video down to just a few megs. [videoblogging] Ripping a DVD+R to AVI or MOV
Hey Gang, I have not the slightest interest in pirating commercial DVDs (I'm a Netflix subscriber, so why bother?) but I do have some uncopyrighted videos on DVD+R that I want to rip and recycle into other products. I have poked around on the web a bit, and all the info I can find seems directed at movie pirates and involves some rather elaborate efforts to defeat the DVD copy protections. Does anybody have a simple, one or two step solution to take a homemade DVD+R and rip into a MOV or AVI file? Thanks in advance!
