Don't know if this helps, Charles, but I've just used flip4mac to
convert some WMV files to QT. See if you think they feel like WMV
files.

The Strangers video and the Princess Man of Her Dreams vids
originate with WMV files.

Oh man I would love to see those screencasts Raymond. I've thought
about QuickTime Pro a few times, but have never REALLY understood what
it was that I was buying! :-P

Forgive me my ignorance, I'm a windows user who wanted to produce QT
movies ... and apple.com says QT Pro will do it ... so I've
 considered it.

I'm eager for a clue as well. Can I edit my movies in MovieMaker and
then use QT Pro to generate QT files from them? I think QT looks much
better than WM. Will I get decent quality this way, or will I simply
 end
up with QT movies that look like WM movies?

But then everyone says it has no timeline, no titling, no transitions
... etc ... I'm just having a real hard time imagining how it manages
to do thoe 'other cool stuff' it can do ... whatever that is.

I haven't found any real good info online about it either ... maybe I
just am not getting it because I'm used to timeline / windows
environment - but if somone could vlog a) what QT Pro can do for you
as oppossed to say ulead's 'video studio 9' (which can save .mov
files) and b) how QT actually does what it does (the interface I
mean), I would be veary eager to see that vlog.

I need to get a new editor ... and I've wasted too much money now on
products that look better on the shelf than on the hard drive.

I have QT Pro. V6.5 I only use it for compressing to .mov, or .mp4
for my videos. It does the job fine, however I do get large file
sizes. When I compare a mp4 to a wmv file (250kps music 32kbs 15fps)
I generally prefer the wmv format. For the high end codecs, I use
DivX.

If you want to compare results, check out either episode 3 or 4 of my
Geocaching videozine. They're available in mov, mp4, wmv, rm and avi
formats. You can download, watch and compare.

Episode 3 is http://www.archive.org/details/IcenryesGeocachingVideozineEpisode3
here.
Episode 4 is http://www.archive.org/details/IcenryesGeocachingVideozineEpisode4
here.

It already exist. Check out the tutorials at http://www.freevlog.org/

Hope this helps.

around the 28/7/05 petertheman mentioned about [videoblogging] Re: To
buy Quicktime Pro or Not buy Quickti that:

It's not. The difference is this: you HAVE to upgrade in order to
*watch* videos on the web. But the upgrade deletes your previous
Quicktime pro, and therefor you loose your cash. I will never again
pay for Quicktime pro, either. It's not worth it, for me.

now that's a bloody good point. and sucks.

Personally I would hold off on it. You get nearly nothing for the
registration fee, and on top of it, QT7 beta for Windows is crap.
Yes, its a beta, and therefore its bugginess is anticipated, but I
installed it because more and more vloggers are encoding their vids
with QT7 codecs on macs, and so, being on windows, I have upgraded to
see their goods.

Wait a while until QT7 is more mature on Windows, and then re-evaluate.

So what program do you use for editing?

Also be aware that the only kind of editing that you can do in QT pro

can do and it's totally worth the cost. I just say this because some
people have found it a disappointment when trying to replace their
 timeline based editor.
