[videoblogging] Re: Blip Down?

2007-03-04 Thread mikehudack
Guys, sorry about that! We had a problem in the overnight hours.
I've posted about it to the blog:

http://blog.blip.tv/blog/2007/03/04/a-service-blip/

Basically, we had a problem with DNS. It was an inconsistent problem,
and started becoming a problem in the middle of the night. We've
fixed it and everything should be back to normal now. We're changing
some settings to help prevent this same thing from happening in the
future, and we're also looking very seriously at the idea of
outsourcing our DNS operation as a whole to people who do nothing but DNS.

If you'd like to discuss this, yell at me, find out exactly what's
going on or learn what SOA stands for, give me a ring at
646-827-9773. I'd be happy to listen or to talk, whatever you like.

Yours,

2006-02-10 Thread mikehudack
According to all our diagnostic systems and reports, we were up last
night, and haven't had downtime in some time. It looks like there
were Internet networking issues that may have caused blip to be
unavailable for some people for some period of time.

The best example of this is blip working for Markus, but being
unavailable for you, Josh.

Either way, we're looking into this to make sure it wasn't any kind of
issue on our side. I'm pretty confident that it wasn't.

Yours,

Mike

[videoblogging] Re: blip down??!!

2006-02-10 Thread mikehudack
Hey David,

We can suppport quite a few concurrent viewers for a 20mb viewer :)

Our infrastructure includes two collocation facilities in New York
City (we'll soon be adding a third in California) with excellent,
burstable bandwidth. In terms of servers, we have about a dozen of
them, including a nice big two terabyte RAID array we use to store videos.

We're always working to improve our infrastructure, and have recently
added some new software to help us distribute load among our different
sites. We're also working now to beef up our bandwidth purchases even
further to cope with our growth -- which is great.

might also cost a pretty penny to provide. I'd like to know what
 their infrastructure is?

Ya...I went and flicked that light switch in my living room on again
before I went to bed last night. *poof* Chicago reappeared.

I guess I will have to put a piece of tape over that switch now to
make sure I dont do that again.

[videoblogging] Re: blip down??!!

2006-02-09 Thread davecircumnavigator
Does anyone have technical information on Blip? What kind of
bandwidth do they have? How many concurrent users can the support to
view a 20mb video? The service they are offering is amazing. But it
might also cost a pretty penny to provide. I'd like to know what
their infrastructure is?

a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/chihuahua;

Technorati, Wikipedia (as in the example above), wherever...
 this type
