RE: [videoblogging] setting up a video upload page.
Rupert, Seems like we're crossing the line between videoblogging group conversation and e-mail that should be sent directly to blip (we'd like to try to keep blip support topics off the videoblogging group whenever possible). We actively discourage the sharing of login information (including e-mail addresses) with anyone, especially the public, so I don't think that would be a good solution. You may be better off asking people to establish their own blip accounts (which you can do, believe it or not, on your own site) and then asking them to upload a video using that account (again, you can do this on your site). This is something I was about to look into with Blip, actually - but I haven't had time to read the T&Cs or contact them. I was wondering if it was OK or not with Blip to set up and give out an email address on a vlog to allow the general public to email videos to a Blip account and automatically cross-post to the vlog? Or would that attract massive spam for Blip - perhaps a better way would be with an upload form posting to the (hidden) Blip email address? Or is this bad practice? Any thoughts? I'm trying to get a sense of what it would take to make an easy portal for folks to send me some video for a new site. It's not going to be a giant public portal, but the folks sending the stuff would not be your basic techno-heads either. Just folks that need an easy way to send some videos without any knowledge of FTP. Thanks for any light you can shed on this. Milt Lee [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Milt Lee wrote: > HI folks, I wanted to see if anybody here has set up a > page for people to upload videos [...] I think blip.tv is the easiest option for this, since they make the original file that was uploaded available. If people upload a high quality QuickTime, you're home free, you can grab it off of blip. I wonder, though, is this really a fair use of the blip.tv service? Hmm If you really want a slick custom solution, one option to consider is the On2 Flix Publisher SDK for Flash, a web browser plug-in that you integrate into your own web site that enables people who want to upload video to encode using VP6 (Flash 8) on their own machines and then upload to your web server. This reduces server encoding loads and bandwidth. Downside is there is lots of computation going on at the local machine. A very interesting option. I was looking into until I decided it was better to simply use blip.tv and forget custom branding and integration and all that. See: http://www.on2.com/developer/on2publisher/ Have fun! David. Re: [videoblogging] setting up a video upload page.
http://spinxpress.com This program (among other things) creates an html page where group members can upload (and download) video. When you invite them by email to join, SpinXpress prompts you to send them (and yourself) an email with the URL to the upload page. RE: [videoblogging] setting up a video upload page.
If you're looking to build a real form for this, you can do it using the blip.tv API. We have documentation at http://wiki.blip.tv/ (the username and password is in the prompt). > -Original Message- > From: videoblogging@yahoogroups.com > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Steve Garfield > Sent: Friday, January 26, 2007 12:03 PM > To: videoblogging@yahoogroups.com > Subject: Re: [videoblogging] setting up a video upload page. > > Say It To Katie > I just pointed people who wanted to upload video for for Say > It To Katie, to blip.tv > > http://sayittokatie.com > > CBS > CBS now points people to YouTube: > > http://www.cbs.com/originals/15_seconds/ > > CBS asks people to join a YouTube Group and then add their > video to that group > > "Click http://www.youtube.com/group/15seconds to go to the 15 > Seconds group page & click the Join Group link > > * Click the ADD VIDEO link & select your video & add to your group!" > > ROCKETBOOM > Rocketboom asked people to upload videos wherever they are > comfortable doing it and to let them know after. > > > > On Jan 25, 2007, at 11:34 PM, Milt Lee wrote: > > > HI folks, I wanted to see if anybody here has set up a page > for people > > to upload videos... > > > Milt Lee > > > > Steve Garfield > http://SteveGarfield.com > > > > > > > Yahoo! Re: [videoblogging] setting up a video upload page.
Say It To Katie I just pointed people who wanted to upload video for for Say It To Katie, to blip.tv http://sayittokatie.com CBS CBS now points people to YouTube: http://www.cbs.com/originals/15_seconds/ CBS asks people to join a YouTube Group and then add their video to that group "Click http://www.youtube.com/group/15seconds to go to the 15 Seconds group page & click the Join Group link * Click the ADD VIDEO link & select your video & add to your group!" ROCKETBOOM Rocketboom asked people to upload videos wherever they are comfortable doing it and to let them know after.
