entertaining, shallow, wonderful, horrible.I love Law and OrderI hate local newsI love Grey's AnatomyI hate MTVI love the Antiques RoadshowI hate cable newsI love/hate the OC (so crappy it's good)
They have budgets to create narratives that no blog could match, but often those funds get wasted on CRAP...I love a good hollywood drama/suspense/thriller but I also keep my eyes on what it is saying to and about our society. I love pop culture, but i also love studying the sociological effects of the ideologies behind all of what we watch.

For Television is an inspiration and a terror.Top 5 Programs.(dang this American Computer(Apple).1. Dr Who.  By far the best thing on British TV ever.2. Lost. Can't miss an episode.3. Green Wing. Scrubs done with a British Sense of Humor.4. Scrubs. Ah! I am JD.5. Shows that were cancelled like Farscape and Firefly. My definition of someone who watches a lot of TV, Entertainment for the weak minded.Soap Opera's Suck, ITV Drama is Pants, Game shows really suck(Except for COUNTDOWN).  Reality TV, give me a break, there are better vlogs than this shit.Sky is the biggest waste of money since it has more advert breaks than actually programming!BBC3 is the best for new comedy.Men and Motors is the best for repeat programming.ABC1 is the best for outstanding American Comedy.Don't get me started on Sports.A film is always better on DVD.PaulKOn 12 May 2006, at 23:44, Ted Tagami wrote: Thinking function, not form: Television is a distribution mechanism for entertainment and advertising. On 5/12/06, Michael Sullivan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Just want to dredge out what you think of first when you think of TV (excluding the bube tube you watch video on of course ;-)thnX-- Sull http://vlogdir.com http://SpreadTheMedia.org SPONSORED LINKS Fireant Individual Use Explains YAHOO! 2006-05-12 Thread duncan

it's interesting that the programmes people are listing are all drama
and/or gameshows (i'm including antiques roadshow in that category;)

no one listed any documentary or 'life' shows (news doesn't count for
now ;) ?. .. and yet so many videoblogs fall into that category.. so
this makes me interested in the cultural situation, there is a huge
amount of amazing and creative factual television on terrestrial tv
over here .. horizon, panet earth, road to guantanamo, storyville,
...the list goes on...
how does this compare in other videobloggers countries? because when i
think of 'television' I always think of Ed Murrow when he said -
This instrument can teach, it can illuminate, yes and it can even
inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are
determined to use it to those ends. There is great decisive battle to
be fought against ignorance, intolerance and indifference

HI Duncan,So long as people understand me and try not to make me a scapegoat as normal, people watch documentaries when they want to, it doesn't make them their favorites, DAVID ATTENBOROUGH Rules in my opinion.  I have also watched Road To Guantanamo and horizon and for that matter most documentaries that go deeper than Guantanamo and why the falling man isn't who we first thought he was.  I have also watched Three Women From Iraq, but this doesn't really add to my watching TV Documentaries made by The BBC or Channel 4.  No one listed the show on sexism and disablements.   I wonder why?PaulOn 13 May 2006, at 00:46, duncan wrote: it's interesting that the programmes people are listing are all drama and/or gameshows (i'm including antiques roadshow in that category;) no one listed any documentary or 'life' shows (news doesn't count for now ;) ?. .. and yet so many videoblogs fall into that category.. so this makes me interested in the cultural situation, there is a huge amount of amazing and creative factual television on terrestrial tv over here .. horizon, panet earth, road to guantanamo, storyville, ...the list goes on... how does this compare in other videobloggers countries? because when i think of 'television' I always think of Ed Murrow when he said - "This instrument can teach, it can illuminate, yes and it can even inspire. The shows I TIVO

-The Daily Show
- Monk
- House
- Survivor
- American Idol (I'm
so ashamed)
- West Wing (sniff--what will I do after next
week?)
- Lost
- ER

I also enjoy Food Network or Animal Planet, when
there is nothing else on (I'm a TV junkie--it's on all the time, as I work at
home, and it keeps me company).

Shows I don't record, but always watch if I'm home
when they are on:

- 60 Minutes
- Washington Week
- Ellen
- Two and a Half Men

And, cyclically, when they are on: Top Chef,
Runway, and Food Network's Next Star, The Apprentice

I obviously watch a lot more TV than most of you,
but I think that it's a nice mix of drama, reality, documentary, news,
etc.

Just want to dredge out what you think of first when you think of TV

Arrogance, condescension, regurgitation.

And the thing that annoys me even more, is the number of amateurs
doing video podcast episodes and trying to emulate all three.

The only exception with TV, is some of the more recent
multi-protagonist long story arc drama series, which are great, as
they introduce complex characters and story lines, and actually
assume that we're intelligent enough to understand them.

Regards,
 Richard

i don't watch tv at all anymore. i used to watch buffy but when it ended, i died a little inside. it was a communal activity. my daughters got me watching it and my best friend as well. he would watch at his house and every commercial, my phone would ring because he needed to discuss. it was fun.
i'm a major treckie. seen them all multiple times (except for enterprise. what the hell was that all about??)i used to watch six feet under and loved it.my favorite channel is showcase (canadian).
i used to watch trading spaces for vern. sigh. i miss vern.i still watch colbert, but only online now.love that quote duncan and it crosses over into every area. the technology for change is there. doesn't mean it will be used for change.
