Hi Pat,

Yeah... unfortunately, one cant even right click and download the video.

If I were you, rather than think about it, I'd just get a Blip account and be
done with it. As
your site stands right now, no one can watch your stuff.

 Yes.

Well if THIS is the case, it looks as though I may need to consider

 No. It's a public URL.

that is a redirect from the image is a very very very slow load/download.

That's because the video is over 300 MB in size and is over 45 minutes
in length. As such, it would be best to DOWNLOAD that to your
computer or portable device.

  You are getting there.

The other episodes (Except Episode 07 Part Two, which I'll get to work
on as soon as I finish updating the other episodes) are NOWHERE NEARLY
as big or as long. But still nevertheless, I'll post a text link to
the page with the Flash version as I update each post on Blogger in
real time.

I'd much rather deal with Quicktime MP4s (Even though they can be a
bear to download if the episode is long) because MP4 videos will work
on most portable devices except cell phones (And even that depends on
the make model you get/have anyway) whereas Flash is more standard
with some phones (Again depending on the make model you get/have)
and cross-platform PCs.

But if the majority of my subscribers want the Flash version, then
that's what they shall receive. Same with the Quicktime version now
currently featured :D I don't want to have people manually
downloading Flash versions if they don't have or want to if at all
possible as

A). Flash can streamed from a web page A LOT easier than Quicktime can.
B). Forcing people to manually download Flash would just simply drive
people away.

But again, if the majority of my subscribers truly WANT to download
the Flash version, then that's what shall be featured. :D I should
run another poll on this.

That all said, YOU HAVE BEEN HEARD your points are all well taken
and appreciated. :D I'm just trying to keep an open mind when it
comes to preferred featured format.

   Cheers :D

[videoblogging] Re:Good Article on Wireless Mics from BH

2007-10-31 Thread Renat Zarbailov of Innomind.org
I read the article and went to research further on reliability of lavalier
mikes. According to a comment of a customer on BH site (under one of the
Sennheiser mike's in $599 category), all wireless mikes, even the most
expensive one costing around $3,000 will have drop-outs of signal when used
on the streets of busy cities like NYC and such. So then I thought to
myself, what would be the most reliable approach to capture high quality
audio when it comes to interviewing people on the streets? The idea popped
quickly. Use a Samson Zoom H2 connected to Electrovoice unidirectional mike.
Although H2 itself has multiple condenser mikes inside (even surround
sound), none of them are unidirectional. So with this set up there's more
work in post to sync the H2's audio with on-camera mike, but you get
crystal-clear reliable audio without any RF interference or drop-outs. I
haven't yet tested this work flow but I think this hits home.

Renat Zarbailov of Innomind.org

[videoblogging] New update of miro with improved permalinks

2007-10-31 Thread Mike Meiser
New update of Miro out.

Full details below.

Happy to see the Ubuntu Gutsy support and the support for alternate channel
guides (such as mefeedia). :)

The ability to download individual videos without subscribing to a show is
nice too.

But what really makes me happy is they've brought the permalink out of
hiding and brought it to the forefront in the playback interface.

My previous workaround had been to click the star button, which took me to a
form on the videobomb site from which I could then copy/paste the permalink
into the web browser location bar. I'm guessing most people never discovered
this workaround and hence never got from watching the video back to the
original site.

Having a direct link back to the originating website is a huge coup and
should improve creator to fan contact in miro tremendously. It was always
my most loved feature in Fireant.

Major Update Available

A major update to Miro is available. The new version is Miro Public Preview
3 (0.9.9.9). We strongly recommend that all users upgrade.

New Features and Bug Fixes in Public Preview 3 (0.9.9.9)

   - On Windows, Miro will now generate thumbnails for any file that you
download or add to your library. If a channel already provides a thumbnail
for a video, Miro will show that instead.
   - Compatibility with OSX Leopard and Ubuntu Gutsy.
   - Miro now shows the channel icon instead of the generic video icon
   each video in a channel.
   - Miro will now remeber in-channel search terms, when you leave the
channel or return from a playing video.
   - Miro now has the ability to add alternate channel guides and
initiate individual video downloads with a 1-click button.
   - There are changes to the first time user experience, new users are
now able to subscribe to some batches of channels on specific themes, like
   Sports, News, Food, etc.
   - At the request of video bloggers, we've put a 'permalink' below the
video playback area. This makes it easy to go to that video post and leave a
   comment.
   - Some install functionality that makes our Co-Branded Miro service
   possible.
   - Lots of bug fixes and small tweaks.

[videoblogging] video blog, the term of choice

2007-10-31 Thread Mike Meiser
I hadn't thought to check into this in a long while.

video blog vs. vlog vs. video podcast

Which terms is winning out?

http://www.google.com/trends?q=video+podcast%2C+vlog%2C+video+blog%2C+videoblogctab=0geo=alldate=allsort=0

Alternate tiny url:

http://tinyurl.com/3b6j4u

It would appear that video blog is THE clear term of choice, which
makes me quite happy. The masses have pretty much spoken at this
point. I think it's safe to say the dust is starting to settle and
can't forsee anything changing the picture anytime soon.

In fact the only thing more popular then video blog is simply
podcast, with an order of magnitude.

http://www.google.com/trends?q=video+blog%2C+podcast

On a side note it's interesting to note that while popularity the term
podcast has obviously peaked the term videoblog continues to rise very
steadily. Most interesting.

I would think that podcast is the prefered term for audio specific
media, but I could well be wrong, which brings me to my next point.

**Google can't tell us what people thing these terms mean.**

Do people think of podcasts as generally audio only?

What percentage of these articles that are refering to podcasts are
actually referring to video specific podcasts?

When people here video blog what do they think?

When people here video blog do they think simple youtube?

or do they think like a blog but instead of text primarily video?

Is blog itself yet a household term, or do people still think it means
to throw up?

And finally and most importantly... what is the state of RSS in all this?

My guess is the vast majority will never know the term, RSS. Nor do
they necissarily need to.

They may understand two things: 1) subscribing, 2) syndication (if
they make media).

RSS is undisputeably and undeniably integral to this space. As 1) a
subscription mechanism, 2) a serch mechanism, and 3) a syndication
mechanism even though the vast majority of the public may not know it
or even need to know it.

What interests me though, is how far have we come in loosening media
from the confines of the web page so it may flow freely beyond the
boundries of the traditional web to set top boxes, portable devices,
cell phones and such.

How far have we really gotten in that big picture?

What percentage of web originating video is viewed on a web page?

What percentage is viewed on the web page it originated on, as opposed
to through a syndication, reblog, or search site?

Just some late night ramblings.
