[Videolib] Two Films - Available in US

2011-08-11 Thread Karsten, Eileen
Dear CW,

I received a request for two films that I am having trouble finding Region 1 or
0 DVDs.

Bienvenido Mister Marshall (Welcome Mr. Marshall) - I have been able to find a
Region 2 DVD with English subtitles. It is an older film made in 1953 but was
rereleased in 2002. Was this ever released in the US on DVD?

Tambien la lluvia (Even the rain) - Both Amazon and Lionsgate are selling it
as a download. Netflix is renting it as a DVD , Blu-Ray and Streaming. I
cannot find anyone selling it as a DVD in the U.S. It has been released as a
DVD in Spain (by Paramount) and France. Does anyone know if it has a DVD
release date in the U.S.?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Sincerely,

Eileen Karsten

[Videolib] shorts on sex and race discrmination

2011-08-11 Thread Jo Ann Reynolds
Having unsuccessfully tried to obtain the streaming rights for The Fairer Sex
and True Colors, both of which aired on ABC’s Primetime Live back in the
mid-nineties I am turning to your collective wisdom for alternative titles
which we might stream. I tried contacting ABC without success.

Each of these two shorts was less than 20 minutes in length and the instructor
wants shorts, not full length.

True Colors follows two men, equal in all measurable aspects except skin
color, as they are involved in a variety of situations to test levels of
prejudice based on skin color. Attempts to heighten awareness of prejudices and
practices affecting the social and economic quality of life for Afro-Americans
in the framework of a nation aspiring to equal proction under the law.

The Fairer Sex – topic = sex discrimination

Many thanks,

Jo Ann

Re: [Videolib] Russian Ark Earth

2011-08-11 Thread Jessica Rosner
Earth would have to be from an archive. Russian Ark was Wellspring which
eventually ended up as part of Weinstein via Baby Genius but I am told it is
impossible to get 35mm prints and that most contracts expired. I do know
some prints got donated to archives universities.

Re: [Videolib] shorts on sex and race discrmination

2011-08-11 Thread Stanton, Kim
For the race discrimination film, you might check California Newsreel’s
catalog. They have several short Jane Elliott “blue eye/brown eye” films. Or
something from the Unnatural Causes series might work -most of these episodes
are under 30 min. These should be available to license for streaming.

OK very quicky
I don't recognize the first one but IF it was a US government film it is PD

Sophie Scholl should be Zeitgeist
Au Revoir check with Sony and good luck
Paragraph 175 check with New Yorker
Who Shall Live was at Kino for a long time but I think it is gone , however
someone there can get you Lawrence Jarvik's contact assuming they no longer
have it.
He is in New York
Sorrow and the Pity see if Dennis is up this late

I am sure others will have info on the others , in fact I bet Dennis knows a
few

2011-08-11 Thread Jessica Rosner
My bad Kino DOES still distribute WHO SHALL LIVE WHO SHALL DIE ( they get
brownie points for dealing with Mr. Jarvik who went to become a leading
advocate of defunding PBS) Ironically the Wilder film is on it as an extra
but as it was produced for the US government it is PD and unlike silent
films it is very difficult ( though there are some exceptions mainly
involvimg unique title) to get special contents copyright on a sound
film.

Re: [Videolib] Looking for digital streaming licensing for several films

2011-08-11 Thread Dennis Doros
***Weapons of the Spirit *(Pierre Sauvage, France, 1987). It's not a
pretty website but http://www.chambon.org/weapons_en.htm and it is one of
my favorite of the occupation films.

***Who Shall Live Who Shall Die *(Laurence Jarvik, USA, 1982) Laurence
Jarvik is all over the internet. His blog says his email is

 lajarvik-at-earthink.nethttp://www.blogger.com/profile-find.g?t=iq=Email:+lajarvik-at-earthink.net
-- please send him my regards though it's been 20+ years since we've
talked when I was at Kino.

**The Sorrow and the Pity (Marcel Ophüls, France, 1969) That is indeed
ours, as is It Happened Here and Hitchock's Bon Voyage and Aventure Malgache
-- our films about under the occupation(s).

*A Propos de Nice *(Jean Vigo, France, 1930). Janus Criterion is coming
 out with this next month.

*American Experience: The Murder of Emmett Till *(Stanley Nelson, USA,
 2003) His website is http://firelightmedia.tv/stanley-nelson/

*Harlan County *(Barbara Kopple, USA, 1976) Harlen County is with
Janus/Criterion as I assume the making of is. If they can't provide this,
Barbara's company Cabin Creek Films is on the web.

*The Making of 'Harlan County USA’ *(Barbara Kopple, USA, 2006)

I would also check out our next release YOU GOT TO MOVE (
www.yougottomove.com) which involves the individual's empowerment to change
society for the better. WINTER SOLDIER (www.wintersoldierfilm.com) is also
amazing... That was Barbara's first film as director as it was YGTM's
director, Lucy Massie Phenix.
