Dear Colleagues,

Are your attending ALA Annual 2016 in Orlando, Florida this month? If so, ALA
Video Round Table (VRT) has a 2016 ALA Conference lineup that you won’t want to
miss! With sessions on film programming, media preservation, video tutorials,
streaming video, and publishing opportunities for media librarians, as well as
other events, there will be something for everyone!

VRT Sessions

Further Down the Alphabet—Embracing B Movies! (co-sponsored with PLA). Can you
recite the titles of every Oscar-winner, while finding yourself at a loss in
the face of patron requests for movies about mutant vegetables? Never fear!
This program will help you handle these requests with confidence. Come explore
the world of B, C, and D movies to find films your patrons will love.
Saturday, 6/25, 10:30-11:30am, Orange County Convention Center, Room W206A

Section 108 VHS Preservation: A Collaborative Database for Due Diligence on VHS
Videotapes in Academic Libraries (co-sponsored with PARS/ALCTS). Section 108 of
U.S. Copyright law permits preservation of VHS videotapes but requires that a
reasonable effort be made to discover the distribution status of each title. If
that sounds daunting, don’t despair. This presentation will introduce you to a
new database designed to help. It is possible to preserve the VHS in your
collection while staying on the right side of copyright law. Come learn how.
Saturday, 6/25, 3-4pm, Orange County Convention Center, Room W101B

Academic Library Streaming Video Revisited: Key Findings from the Follow-up
Survey. The latest research available from this ongoing study reveals
remarkable changes that will help inform academic librarians and administrators
in planning and developing streaming video collections and services in a
rapidly changing environment. This talk will tell you everything you want (and
need) to know about recent trends in library streaming video collections.
Saturday, 6/25, 4:30-5:30pm Orange County Convention Center, Room W101B

Creating Effective Instructional Video: From Collaboration and Design to
Assessment. The demand for distance learning is growing exponentially, which
means that the need for engaging online library instruction has never been
greater. Come see three different projects and hear experts offer their advice
on creating—and assessing—top-notch video tutorials. Sunday, 6/26, 1-2:30pm,
Orange County Convention Center, Room W103B

Publishing Opportunities in Media Librarianship: A Panel Discussion. Do you
want to publish but feel as if you could use some inspiration and advice? This
panel of accomplished authors and editors will be offering their tips for both
experienced and novice writers. Bring your questions! Sunday, 6/26, 3-4pm,
Orange County Convention Center, Room W206C

Below are four of those films that have received sponsorship from VRT.

Kumu Hina is a powerful feature documentary about the struggle to maintain
Pacific Islander culture and values within the Westernized society of modern
day Hawaiʻi. It is told through the lens of an extraordinary Native Hawaiian

Re: [Videolib] PPR for Scotland, PA?

Hello again Video-lib colleagues, and thanks again to Jessica for her
original suggestion. Unfortunately it did not pan out, so I thought I'd
post one last time to see if anyone else has thoughts or leads, by any
chance.

Thanks in advance, and happy Friday!

Well the person who MIGHT know the answer is Jeff Lipsky whose company
Lot47 distributed it.

He has a new company called Adopt Films which you can try.

You can also perhaps have Kino-Lorber which deals with him give you
his direct contact.

My best guess is that maybe he can give you the contact info for an
old sales agent as the original distribution rights have almost surely
expired.

Hi All,

Does anyone have a PPR contact for Scotland, PA?

I've checked the usual suspects and it looks like the original
distribution company is no longer in business.

Thanks in advance!

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion
of issues relating to the selection, evaluation,
acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of
current and evolving video formats in libraries and related
institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of
communication between libraries,educational institutions, and
video producers and distributors.
