Re: notification center
No, your folders will be retained. You'll have to set your Voiceover, bluetooth and WiFi settings. You will also have to re-activate iCloud keychain again if you use that.. There might be a few more settings I'm missing, but it's not crucial, in my opinion. It's sort of a pain, though. I wouldn't have done it just for that purpose myself, but I was trying to restore a different option, which didn't work. I was surprised the notification removal process came back. If you don't want to go through all that, you can delete each item by swiping to delete, but that can get to be time-consuming as well. Listening to annotations for newly released titiles on BARD Mobile
When I go through the newly released books on BARD on my P C, I can set the reader to just read everything from the top which would include the book title, the author and the BARD annotation. How do you go through the newly released titles on BARD Mobile since you need to double tap each title to move to the next screen where the annotation then appears? Do you open each title individually and after you read each individual annotation, go back to the list of newly released books to move down the list to then open the next book on the list to read the annotation. What method for going through the list of recently added titles on BARD Mobile works best for you? Thank you. Michelle -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: Listening to annotations for newly released titiles on BARD Mobile
Hi Michelle, I set my router on headings. Type the h. that allows me to go through the titles. If I hear one that sounds interesting then I read the books annotation. I prefer using my pc to read the recently added books section and enter them in my wish list. Very rarely do I use my iPod or iPhone because the computer is faster. Deezer offers lossless music streaming for Sonos users
Hello all Sonos and music enthusiasts, Below is a link to an article which describes how Deezer, a music service which has pretty much all the same features and an even larger collection of music than Spotify is now offering hi-fi streaming for Sonos users. The stream will of course require a pretty fast internet connection as it is in FLAC format (free lossless audio codec) and comes in at 1,411 kbps or better. This is compared to 320 kbps which is what Spotify Premium subscribers get. The only other music service which offers this quality and which is fairly new and not yet available in Canada is Tidal. The Deezer Elite subscription is $19.95 a month which is the same what Tidal charges. But anybody who purchases a Sonos Play 1, Play 3, Playbar or I believe Play 5 as well will get a one-year free Deezer subscription. That means if you are paying for Spotify, you can save yourself $120 a year which goes a goodly way towards the purchase of a Play 1 or Play 3. Anyhow, below is the link to the article and you can of course look in the archives for my posts about Sonos and go to www.sonos.com http://www.sonos.com for more information. If you Google Sonos Reviews you will also find a lot of links for reviews of the Sonos system from independent websites like Gizmoto, CNET and so on. http://blog.deezer.com/press/deezer-and-sonos-bring-music-lovers-the-first-g lobal-high-resolution-streaming-experience/ I was, by the way, told that Sonos is currently working with Tidal to offer their service via Sonos as well. This would of course be expected since Sonos offers access to a huge list of music services via the Sonos system. I should also mention that accessing Deezer via Sonos is a much better experience than Spotify because the Spotify app on Sonos is very limited whereas Deezer gives you pretty much full access to what Deezer has to offer. I was excited that Spotify is finally available in Canada as of a couple of months ago and signed up for a Premium subscription, but since I recently purchased a couple of Play 1 speakers along with a Sonos Playbar and Sub and now activate the one-year free Deezer subscription, I am going to cancel my Sonos Premium subscription today. I find that with these new lossless streaming options, the amount of music available on demand whenever you want it and the ability to sync music to your device for off-line use there really is less and less reason to actually go and buy the music. For $240 a year I can have all the music I want now in lossless hi-fi format whereas if I purchase an album via iTunes all I get is 256 kbps. Even with a Premium subscription streaming at 320 Kbps what I get is better than what I can buy from iTunes. If you are streaming via a computer that is connected to a set of powered speakers or an iPhone connected to a bluetooth speaker the higher price for Deezer Elite is of course not worth it as you won't be able to hear the difference between 320 kbps and the lossless format. You will need something like a Sonos Connect Amp paired with high-end speakers or a Sonos Connect which is hooked up to an existing high-end stereo system to fully appreciate this increased quality. Re: Listening to annotations for newly released titiles on BARD Mobile
Set the rotor to headings. Navigate to where it says the date, then start one-finger swiping down until you get to a title that you think might interest you. It sometimes gets a little confused when you first start the process, where the date is given, but work with it a bit, and it will move you by title. airplay with iOS 8.1.1
Any airplay users out there finding that VoiceOver is now being sent to the airplay device under iOS 8.1.1? Mine just started doing that two days ago. I don't honestly remember if I had used airplay until then with iOS 8.1.1, but I do know that VoiceOver stayed on my iPhone 5S the last time I used airplay before two days ago. This is beyond terrible. Richard Reality is the leading cause of stress for those who are in touch with it. Re: airplay with iOS 8.1.1
Hi, Not happening for me using an iPhone 6 running 8.1.1 Airplaying to an Apple TV. However, I now find that Airplay will frequently not transmit either the audio or video at random as in one will work but the other won't. Restarting things will sometimes solve the problem but sometimes won't. The only thing that has changed is my phones version of iOS, although this has happened since 8.1. Cheers, Ben. Spotify and Increasing iPhone Memory Usage
Hello, everyone. I am enjoying evaluating the Spotify iOS app, but I am becoming unhappy with increased iOS memory usage as I use it. I use Spotify only to play pieces of music; I don't download anything for offline use, nor do I save any play lists. Even so, I already have about 400 MB allocated to Spotify, and I have used the app about four days. I checked the net and discovered this is a long-standing problem which Spotify has not addressed. I found one post from a Spotify rep that said a clear cache option is a good idea, but Spotify lacks development resources. Can anyone confirm this behavior? Am I missing an easy fix? Thank you for all help. Craig -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. Seeing Assistant vs. Other Apps
Hi, I'm grateful for the developers making the Seeing Assistant Move and Home available on sale. Can anyone draw comparisons between these apps and their competitors? Is Digit Eyes better than Seeing Assistant or vice versa, and how does the Move version stack up against something like Ariadne? Thanks in advance. Re: Deezer offers lossless music streaming for Sonos users
The article read that their only service in the states was Sonos exclusive. Maybe that's changing though. I'm not sure what Pandora's bit rate is out of the apps, but I think it's probably 64k aac or something. - Original Message - From: Craig Werner coffeeb...@gmail.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Saturday, November 29, 2014 9:41 AM Subject: Re: Deezer offers lossless music streaming for Sonos users A very thoughtful post, Sieghard. Deezer is expanding its U.S. market beyond its Bose and Sonos offerings. Check with www.deezer.com if you are interested in following this growing company, headquartered in Paris. Craig On 11/29/14, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: Hello all Sonos and music enthusiasts, Below is a link to an article which describes how Deezer, a music service which has pretty much all the same features and an even larger collection of music than Spotify is now offering hi-fi streaming for Sonos users. U E boom questions
I would appreciate hearing from persons who have played with this blue tooth speaker extensively. Assuming your equalization is flat, how well do high frequency sounds come through on this speaker? I ask because I don't hear highs as well as I used to. Also, some persons only seem to care about low and intermediate frequencies. Does the U E boom pair easily? And the last question for the day, what is the most discounted price you have found on this speaker? Thanks. Don Roberts -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. RE: moderator warning - Re: starting with IOs 8.1.1
I have been using this iPhone 5s, for the last year. Using 7.1.2 since march of this year. Of course, I had bunches of problems when IOs 7.0 was release. But since march, my phone has been working perfectly until now. Maybe in march 2015, I will get my iPhone working fine again. But will be again, 6 months of problems, and 6 months of good use of my iPhone. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Gary Petraccaro Sent: Thursday, November 27, 2014 9:32 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: moderator warning - Re: starting with IOs 8.1.1 I have not been following your iPhone problems, so please answer one question for me. But I have to clarify that my porpoise is , advice and help everybody, even me. I don't know if you remember, since I started writing emails to the list, regarding IOs problems, that I have been saying, that if we are customers of apple, we should push apple to do a better job. It is my porpoise. If we stay quiet, apple will not improve the quality of IOs. Do you Remember IOs 6?, it had some bugs, remember Ios 7? It had more bugs than IOs 6, and look IOs 8, the worse IOs that the customers has seen. Looks like every year the quality is lower, and lower, and lower. Why is it happening? Easy, because apple is not feeling that they need to improve the IOs quality. A few days I read on the list, someone saying that apple is doing a good job, because in a few weeks, they have release 2 updates of IOs 8. I don't see this issue on the same way. If they have to fix things, it is because there were things to be fix. Again Raul, if we always are happy with whatever apple is doing, always they will decrease the quality. My advice to everybody, is write to apple, call them, make a lot of noise, then they will take care about what are the problems of their customers, but been good boys, quiet, they will not feel the need to improve anything. All this is true, but many iPhone users and many members of this list will point out that the iPhone gives you the best accessibility on a smart phone. I don't think Pablo or anyone else should have to choose between the best accessibility experience on a smart phone and putting up with these bugs in subsequent releases of major versions of IOS. I don't always agree with Pablo, but I think he has every right to complain and be frustrated with IOS 7 and now IOS 8. I'm sure Pablo pays the same for his iPhone as everyone else does. This isn't a cheap device, and I don't think it's too much to expect that it should work as documented. I also don't understand the discussion about Windows and other technologies not protecting a user's investment. Every PC I have in my house is older than my iPhone 4S, and they'll still be running an OS supported by Microsoft long after Apple stops supporting my 4S. Microsoft also supported Windows XP for over ten years. I can't think of another company who's supported an OS for nearly that long. I myself have also been frustrated with Apple and both the updates to IOS 7 and now IOS 8. I think Apple will eventually make it right, but iPhones aren't cheap, and I don't think I should have to settle for a sub par experience for a few months every year just because I choose to upgrade my operating system to take advantage of new features on a supported device. I think some of the criticism of Apple is over the top, but I also think for things to improve in the future, Apple needs to hear some frustration from the blindness community. I see myself as more conciliatory, but I know from my experience in product development and my association with accessibility professionals is that frustration needs to be heard. Regardless of Apple's commitment to accessibility, they are a company looking at the bottom line, and if they think they can invest a bit less in accessibility because the blindness community is happy with whatever we get then they will be tempted to spend less on accessibility. RE: to update or not - Re: moderator warning - Re: starting with IOs 8.1.1
Christopher and others, I agree that Pablo has a point. However, he has made his point dozens of time over the last few years and I think many list members are just getting tired of hearing his rather radical point of view true as it may be. The point is that repeating it on Viphone has about as much effect on Apple as beating a dead horse would have on riding it from point A to point B. I don't think anybody enjoys the bugs, but maybe it's time for Pablo to start a website or Google Plus community or something along these lines with the express purpose of attracting people who feel how he does and where Apple may notice them should enough people sign up. But I guess since he is leaving the iOS platform after his 5S lifetime is over, this will not happen so we're back at running in circles. I am at any rate done with comments regarding this at least until Pablo is back with more of the same when iOS 9 comes out *smile*.
