Re: Instant pot multi use appliance with accessible iPhone app

Hi!
You should explore online comunity for this cooker. I read somewhere
there's a FB page or group with thousands of recipees and other
similar online corners.
From my experience you should experiment a bit, cooking few minutes
more or few minutes less could make the food more according to your
taste. Also, there could be a difference with different brand of
groceries so online recipees are not the Ten Commandments xD.
Presets are good if you know what you're doing and what do you
expect and manual settings are great for customizing the cooking of
specific food.

We just bought the smart Instant Pot and I have a few observations.
I have never used a pressure cooker. The recipes in the app are too
fancy and time consuming for the ost part. But they do give you an
idea of how long it takes to cook things which is helpful.
There are settings for lots of foods, but that's a little confusing
too. Poultry, for example, could be a few chicken brasts, a whole
chicken, a stuffed fowl of some kind etc. Cooking requirements are all
really different for those so I'm not sure why they have these vague
settings.
But everything we've made has been taty and it's a very accessible
product. Just a little confusing for the uninitiated because I think
the presets are a little meaningless unless I'm missing something.

1.  The logg-standing focus issue when exiting from mail threads
is still around, which annoys me no end.

2.  I continually see multiple mail threads with the same
subject lines instead of one consolidated mail thread containing
the same subject line. Does that make any sense?

3.  If I move from my inbox to another folder, say, a folder

the inbox is gone. Gone! I can't get it back until I kill the
mail app in the app switcher and restart Mail.  What the heck's
going on here?  Btw, a colleague of mine at work is experiencing
the same issue.  I thought that maybe VoiceOver just isn't
letting me see the inbox, so I turned VO off and back on again.
No dice.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Birthdays via the contacts and the calendar

2016-01-13 Thread Jan Kleinhans
Hi all

Now, if I create a new contact and also put the birthday in, I do see that the
birthday is also present on the calendar. But here is where my problems start.
I should say that I might not be that proficient with the calendar, so I could
be missing something. If I add this birthday and go to the calendar, I can
find the event, and it would show something like: "jan Kleinhans, birthday, all
day." Now, if I wanted to add a notification so that it would tell me on the
day that it is the birthday, how do I do this? I can somehow get to the point
where you can move the event. If I do that, I can see the hours, so I can move
it to say 7 in the morning, but there seems to be no way to actually select
that time, nor to switch on an alert for this event. If I start the entry on
the calendar by adding a new event, I can set all of this. So, what would be
the purpose thento add the birthday via the contact to the calendar if you can
not set up the notification? Yes, you can go into the calendar, and go to the
date to see if there are events, but that's about all, unless I am missing
something very obvious here. I know one can set reminders via the reminders
app, and using Siri and all of that, but at this stage that's not what I want
to know, hoping that this might work in another way then?

Thank you for any clarification of this matter.

Sounds like it is in power reserve mode where it only shows the time. Voice

To restart the watch, hold down the friends button for four seconds. This will
make your watch start up like normal with voice over.
I got this information from a podcast on AppleVis.

OK glad to see that they have description on the movie, did you read the book

Re: Frustrations with Dative Mail App

2016-01-13 Thread englishrider91
The only two issues I'm having with the Mail app are that when I press the back
button to get out of a message, and then again to get out of a thread, The
first press works, but the second doesn't. It appears to, and I briefly see my
other threads, but after a second, I'm back in the thread I was in before. I'm
not double tapping on anything here. It seems like the phone quickly shifts
from being out of the thread I was looking at, then back into it. I have to
press the back button again to actually get out of the thread and back into my
mailbox, for example, the one I have for the VIPhone list. My other miss you
with mail is that, 99 times out of 100, the app loses focus when I back out of
a thread and get back into the mailbox; I get put back at the top of my list of
messages in the mailbox, unlike in iOS 8, where I was placed on the thread I
was just looking at, especially if I tapped with a single finger in the middle
of the screen. This no longer does the trick, for the most part, and I am
usually dumped back at the top of the list of messages. This is rather
irritating.

Thanks,
Ari

Re: Fleksy

2016-01-13 Thread Harry Bell
To switch back from Fleksy to normal iOS keyboard, single tap and hold on the
emoji button to the left of the space bar until it announces "switch to emoji".
Then keep your finger down and slide slowly to the right. The first button
announced is Comma and the next one is switch keyboard. Harry

Question regarding closing sponsored ads and returning to get upgrades screen in BlindFold Bowling with VoiceOver

2016-01-13 Thread Shai
Hello,
After listening to a sponsored video ad in the get upgrades screen of
BlindFold Bowling with VoiceOver, I notice that there is no means by
which to exit this screen and return to the get upgrades section of
the app to see the amount of blindfolds. I have tried double tapping
on the video to show controls to attempt to get to a done button but
when I attempt to perform this step, the video seems to play again. In
order to exit, I have to close the app from the switcher and restart
it which does not result in more blindfolds to get more coins and play
the game. This is on my iPhone 6s running IOS 9.2.
Has anyone been able to discover any steps to be able to exit and earn
more coins?
Thank you in advance for any responses

Re: Can no longer like or dislike videos with official YouTube app

2016-01-13 Thread Wayne Merritt
I have had trouble with the iPhone YouTube app too. My temporary work
around is to use the YouPlayer app, which I believe is free. With the
YouPlayer app, you can accessibly like/unlike videos, as well as have
access to rodar actions in your list of liked videos. Hopefully
YouTube will fix their appf or liking videos since it is a hassle to
go to another app to like something but it works.

RE: question podcast smart tv

2016-01-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Rick,

That sounds interesting, I think when I looked at this some years ago everybody
was using their proprietary software/interface and that of course never is good
for accessibility and it’s nice to see that some standards do prevail in the
end which make things more accessible.

I also have a Sony LCD TV, but it’s definitely not smart, I bought it after
Christmas 2007 so it’s now 8 years old and while it has a 40 inch 1080P
display, it’s positively bulky compared to today’s thin TV’s. I got a good deal
back then for $1,800 Canadian – nowadays this buys you something pretty darn
big and fancy and you can get a decent quality 40 inch TV for $500 or even
less..

One nice thing is that it has a ton of inputs which isn’t always the case any
more especially older standards. This one has 2 HDMI, 2 Component and 3
Composit/analogue/RCA in back + one on the side, it also has optical and
analogue out, an old S-Video and a VGA/computer style input for hooking up to
the old-style computer VGA outputs. The input selection is not accessible, but
if you know the input button and the order the list is in it’s not difficult to
do. I am 48 now and when I was little we still had a black and white TV back in
Germany with 2 channels. When I was about 10 or 11 we bought the first colour
TV and we then had 4 channels with a 20-foot antenna on top of the roof with
arms and things going every which way. I was fully sighted until I was 16 and
totally remember one of the first shows we watched in colour, a Jaque Cousteau
under-water documentary and we were all sitting there with our mouths hanging
open. Back then you bought a TV maybe once every 20 years or whenever the tubes
went so having bought one 8 years ago and contemplating possibly buying another
one in the next 2-5 years sounds rather decadent/wasteful to an old thrifty
german. But just as with everything, technologies do mature and the rate of
changes does slow down and I think in 3, 4 or 5 years an ultra HD TV with lots
of bells and whistles will be even more affordable than now. I think where my
TV has to be from a room layout point of view 55 inches is about as large as I
can go and I think the trend will be towards bigger for less money rather than
drastically different technology.

Regards,

Sieghard

Just an FYI,

We recently purchased a Sony XBR 65x850c TV. What is interesting about this
latest Sony lineup of 2015 sets is that they are now using Android TV for their
OS. I was actually able to load TalkBack onto it which made the TV and lots of
settings quite accessible except for some of the apps like Netflix. Pretty much
if the apps are accessible on an Android phone, they will be on Android OS.

Between this and also using an Apple TV 4th gen, it’s a pretty darn accessible
setup. I can switch back and forth between the smart tv interface and Apple TV
and of course also to the Xfinity box with talking nvoice guidance. It’s been a
big step forward I think from a couple of years ago.

Best regards,

I think Gianni was referring to actual TV’s which have various smart features
built in such as being able to access Netflix, do Skype calls, browse the
internet etc. Anyhow, this is what generally is referred to as a smart TV and
of course Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic and so on all make these things nowadays
and often manufacturers make various claims as to how upgradable they are.
Especially Samsung claimed that if you buy one of theirs you can upgrade not
just the software but in some cases even the hardware I think with a new
processor etc. However, I also read recently in connection with CES in Las
Vegas that they are now coming out with stuff where even people who bought a TV
a year or two ago are left behind and of course now all the rage is ultra high
HD or 4K and of course no TV that is just an HD TV can be upgraded to that. I
think in the end it will emerge that TV’s become “dummer” again so to speak and
that the smarts will be in the set top boxes we use to access the content. This
of course makes sense to me since you shouldn’t have to ugrade an entire TV
every 3 to 5 years but a $100 to $200 set top box can be much more easily
replaced with something newer and more advanced.

Also I think that there are no smart TV’s out there which have any sort of
accessibility hence probably the lack of Podcasts since each company does their
own thing.

Sieghard

RE: Frustrations with Dative Mail App

2016-01-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
This focus issue you describe when returning to the Inbox entirely disappeared
for me in iOS 9.2 or maybe it was even 9.1 I also can't reproduce the problem
you describe with the back button. Which phone do you have? If it's a 6S or 6S
Plus is it possible you somehow invoke some 3D Touch thing? Also, I usually use
the scrub gesture instead of the back button, maybe give that a try and see if
it's more reliable.

Sieghard

Subject: Re: Frustrations with Dative Mail App

This is rather
irritating.

Thanks,
Ari

Hi Keith,

I don't know if this is the best way, but I've used the Spot Light feature
which is native on the iPhone. You can access this by doing a 3-finger swipe
down when you are on the home screen.

Mary, thanks for the followup. I know that on the standard model,

Thank you all. I appreciate you insights on Audible. I did not realize they
include dramatiztions, so that might be a nice way for me to use the credits.
It’s nice to know that they have a return policy, too.

I use Audible less now than I did, but there are some books that have a great
human reader that are not available through BARD or the CD package costs too
much and is Audible usually has the best price on audio books. Plus, their
books, listened to with their app, have the best book navigation options of
other audio books.

Though, as you may have noticed with BARD, they are getting more commercially
recorded books in their system. So, I always check BARD first before deciding
to buy an Audible book.

At this point, I probably read more books from Bookshare using Voice Dream
Reader than any other method.

Some books just are better with a human reader in my opinion.

Ultimately, it boils down to personal preference if you want human read books
and how much you are willing to pay for them.

Enjoy,

Richard

You can also use the Amazon echo to play audible books. That's a really nice
option. I have been explored being able to navigate within the book, but I know
you can change which book you are playing. And of course, your place is
remembered regardless of the book being played.

2016-01-13 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi!
I just checked my Calendar to reproduce what you are experiencing
but I didn't even get to the event settings.
But, the problem is the 'Whole day' setting. The calendar
automatically treats the event as whole day so there's no need to
adjust the time, hours, place etc, etc.
If you want to change those things you first need to switch the
event from Whole day and I believe you'll ge the access to the
settings you need.
If the event is set fot he whole day it automatically gets the
default Calendar notification on 9 o'clock AM which can be changed
in Settings, Mail, Calendar and Contacts section.

  Hi all

Now, if I create a new contact

also present on the calendar.  But here is where my problems
start.  I should say that I might not be that proficient with
the calendar, so I could be missing something.  If I add this
birthday and go to the calendar, I can find the event, and it
would show something like: "jan Kleinhans, birthday, all
day."  Now, if I wanted to add a notification so that it would
tell me on the day that it is the birthday, how do I do this?
I can somehow get to the point where you can move the event.
If I do that, I can see the hours, so I can move it to say 7
in the morning, but there seems to be no way to actually
select that time, nor to switch on an alert for this event.
If I start the entry on the calendar by adding a new event, I
can set all of this.  So, what would be the purpose thento add
the birthday via the contact to the calendar if you can not
set up the notification?  Yes, you can go into the calendar,
and go to the date to see if there are events, but that's
about all, unless I am missing something very obvious here.  I
know one can set reminders via the reminders app, and using
Siri and all of that, but at this stage that's not what I want
to know, hoping that this might work in another way then?

Re: Birthdays via the contacts and the calendar

2016-01-13 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello,
As long as you have the setting turned on, then you will get a notification for
all day events.
There is nothing you have to do in the calendar.

Just go to settings, mail contacts calendar, then swipe down to the calendar
section and double tap on Default Alerts.
In here, swipe until you hear All Day Events and double tap.
Now you can choose when you will receive your notification for all day events
including Birthdays. I have mine set for 9 AM on the day of the event.

I hope this helps.

Chris

Re: Apple Watch won't speak

2016-01-13 Thread Alan Paganelli
I didn't even know that that bar kind of button was also the power button.
Then again like my wife said. Stop playing with it all day and the battery
will last longer. Good point that.

RE: question podcast smart tv

2016-01-13 Thread Rick Alfaro

Rick Alfaro

Also I think that there are no smart TV’s out there which have any sort of
accessibility hence probably the lack of Podcasts since each company does their
own thing.

Sieghard
