Scott and Wayne ask about BlindSquare Braille, Fwd: gps

2016-02-08 Thread Matti 3223
Hello Scott, and thank you Matti for forwarding this question. Please feel
free to post this back to mailing list, if you wish to do that.

I'm Ilkka Pirttimaa, developer of BlindSquare.

BSq has very nice support for braille displays, develop together with
deaf-blind people.
There is specific mode under Tools called "Braille Display". It has table
that shows speech history, updating braille display when ever BSq outputs
something. You can browse this history. History is also updated, so if
there was mention about distance and direction, history will change if you
move to other location.

There is also command line interface, that allows you to use braille
display as a input method.

You can listen to more about this from this podcast:
https://audioboom.com/boos/2273669-keyboard-notetaker-and-braille-display-support-in-blindsquare-2-2

More detailed example of command line interface:
https://audioboom.com/boos/3641550-using-blindsquare-with-the-rivo-keyboard

Best, Ilkka

Hi,

I have already asked a long time ago about the Blind Square but it has been
told that it is not available for the braille display yet. My suggestion is
to double check to make sure about it first.

Hope this help you.

Respectful,

Scott Dollar

I believe that BlindSquare can be used with a Braille display. When it
is set to output to a display, any messages which would have been
spoken will appear on the display. I don't recall how to do this but
perhaps someone else knows.

I can, and we'll be waiting more when we have to wait for the
lagginess of VoiceOver over bluetooth to catch up to what we're
actually doing. I think the 5 Se may be the last phone to have one. Oh
well, it's just the natural progression of Apple, that one port mafc

Re: adding to a contact from recent calls

2016-02-08 Thread Bill Gallik
I’m presuming that - given this is the viPhone list - that concerns adding a
recent call number to an existing contact on an iPhone. In such case, simply
double-tap the “More Info” line immediately beneath the call number you want to
add to the existing contact. “Add to Contact is one of the options.

Find gestures [was "Re: two gesture questions"]

2016-02-08 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm not sure what find feature you're referring to. You can get into the
spotlight search with a three finger swipe down from the middle of your
home page. This will let you search for anything on your phone. You can
also get into the item chooser with a two finger triple tap. This will
let you search for anything on the current page.

Also, I was listening to a podcast on using a Bluetooth keyboard with
VoiceOver. A keyboard way to do a “find” on the screen was mentioned.
Is there a way to trigger that Find dialog option with a gesture?

No, I don't think this is it at all. Suppose you create a FaceBook page
for your family, your mens group at church, your sons soccer team, your
bowling team, your wood working group and so on. This app, as the
description says, is for the admins of these pages. Again, as the

public and private messages on these pages, get push notifications for

RE: Accessible children's books on iPhon/iPad

2016-02-08 Thread R VanLant
I had a couple that were not really accessible, but once my sighted husband
showed my then 4 year old where to click, she could do it on her own on my
phone. I think I just did some search in the app store for kids book audible
or such. We had Sleeping Beauty and the Princess and the Pea.

Glad to hear ibooks has some; maybe I'll try that.

You might also find out if your local library offers Tumblebooks. It's up the
each library whether they make these available to patrons via their website or
just within the library. I'm hoping I can access my library's account with
Tumblebook from my phone. These are books with audio. Never tried them, but
it's worth mentioning while we are on the topic.

Are there any accessible apps for children's books? I would like it to read
the books out loud. I could put in my headphones and read along in my voice
while they look at the pages.

If the app is only available on iPad please note that. I would be willing to
get an old iPad to use for reading if there are usable apps.

two gesture questions

2016-02-08 Thread R VanLant
Is there a gesture to get quickly to the top or bottom of a long list?
Specifically, I'm hoping for a faster way to skip down a long list of
podcast episodes, email, or options in settings, and probably other things
escaping my thoughts.

Also, I was listening to a podcast on using a Bluetooth keyboard with
VoiceOver. A keyboard way to do a "find" on the screen was mentioned. Is
there a way to trigger that Find dialog option with a gesture?

RE: two gesture questions

2016-02-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can do a 4-finger single tap on the top or the bottom half of the screen.
If you enter Voiceover help and perform this gesture, Voiceover will say “move
to the first element” and if you perform it nearer to the bottom of the screen
it will say “Move to last element”.

If you do this on the home screen, Voiceover focus will go to the top left app
if you 4-finger tap near the top of the screen and it will go to the last app
in your dock if you 4-finger tap near the bottom of the screen.

Keep in mind, however, that this may not always work as desired. Consider this
example:

I open my Phone app and then tab on the Contacts tab.

I now see my list of contacts starting with “A”.

At the bottom of the screen I still have my normal Phone app tabs: Favorites,
Recents, Contacts, KeyPad and Voice Mail.

Now do a 4-finger tab near the bottom of the screen and you will notice that
not only does Voiceover go to the last entry in your contacts list, it actually
jumps right to the Voice Mail tab which is the last element on the screen at
the very bottom right. If you want to get to the last entry in your contacts
list, you have to swipe left 5 times, the first 4 will move you back through
the tabs at the bottom and the fifth swipe left will move you from the
Favorites tab to the last entry in your contacts list. Of course I could have
just touched the bottom left of the screen to put focus on the Favorites tab
and then did a single swipe left.

It’s a useful gesture, but it has some limitations.

Another way which usually works to get back to the top of somewhere is to touch
the status bar like the time and then do a double tap on that.

As for doing a search for a particular item on the screen, you want to invoke
the item chooser. The gesture for this is a 2-finger triple tap.

I suggest again to practice on the home screen. If you have a full home-screen
(20 apps) Plus 4 in the dock, a 2-finger triple tap on the home screen would
have 24 items in the item chooser. They would be sorted in alphabetical order
and at the top of the screen is also a search box and as you type something
there it narrows down the results.

For example, If you have the Camera, Camfind, Calculator, Calendar and Music
apps on the home screen and typed a “C” these 4 apps would be the only ones
left. If you now typed an “A” only Calendar, Camera and Camfind would be left,
now type a “M” and only Camera and Camfind are left etc.

Whatever letter or letter combination you type is what iOS displays, but it
does not have to be at the beginning of the app name hence if you type a “C”
also “Music” shows up in the list because it has a “c” in it at the end.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi Amy,
Really stupid question. You do have the latest version of the app, right? The

accessible. You could double tap on those things until your finger fell off,
and it wouldn't do you any good.but the current version works fine, at least
for me on my 6s. I just double tap on the tab and it is selected. For instance,
if I double tap on the skills tab, the first page of 23 possible pages shows
up. If that's not working for you, I have no idea.

Re: My contact app

2016-02-08 Thread Christopher Chaltain
If you search for it with spotlight search then it'll tell you what
folder it's in. Do a three finger swipe down on your home page. Don't do
this from the status bar across the top but the middle of your home
page. Now type contacts in the search bar and look for the top hits.
It'll mention the Contacts app and tell you what folder it found it in.

Re: Please Join Me in Requesting That a Significant VoiceOver and iOS Twitter App Bug Be Resolved

2016-02-08 Thread Kerri Kosten
Hi:
I also would like to send a bug report to twitter asking them to fix
this issue. In fact, I was excitedly going to look at the moments from
the Super Bowl game yesterday, and upon opening the Iphone app using
Voiceover couldn't find the moments tab anywhere. Twitter needs to
address this asap as moments are indeed an important way to follow
events from around the world. And, they even have categories such as
entertainment and sports.
My question is how do I submit a bug report similar to the one you submitted?
Did you just go to the twitter app in the app store, hit the reviews
tab, and tapped on the "write review" button and put your text in a
review?
Or is there an actual "bug report" button?
I'd also like to send a similar report to Snapchat asking them to make
their app accessible as it's extremely popular and it makes me very
angry that we are left out of enjoying the videos and pictures on that
very popular app.
Thanks,
Kerri

Re: ANYONE OUT THERE USE MBRAILLE, CALENDAR FEATURE, with Fantastical, please?

2016-02-08 Thread Chris Chaffin
I just tried using the dot cal feature in MBraille and it worked for me just
fine.
I used the examples in the help section as a guide.

First, it works better when you use grade 1 braille to enter the dot cal
command.
I did notice that after typing the start date, I had to do a letter sign dots 4
6 before typing the quotation mark, or the quotation mark would automatically
disappear.

I scheduled a meeting for tomorrow at 1 PM with an alert of 30 minutes, and a
location of Office. I typed this into MBraille:
.cal Meeting "2016-02-09 13:00" alert 30 min location: Office

If you tell me what you are trying to enter, then I will be happy to help you
figure out what you need to write to add the event to your calendar.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Re: battery case and earphone jack

2016-02-08 Thread Sherrie
I have the Mophi case and love it. The Samsung earphones work without the
adaptor and they are quite reasonable from Amazon.
I had the Mophie case for my 5 and had to remove the bottom portion of the case
and use the lightning cable to connect to the computer. But with my 6S The mini
USB charging cable will also connect the iPhone to the computer. This is good
since the opening on the 6S case is at the top and the fit is very tight. With
the 6S I need the extra power almost every day so I am glad I have it.

Sounds as if this case has the same issue with the headphone jack. In addition,
I wonder what happens if the IPhone 7 actually does away with the jack and uses
the lightening port for headphones? If that happens they will have to re-design.

I only have found one problem with the case. I cannot use the lightning cable
from my phone, only the cable that is with the case. However, you use on
battery and charge at night. We shall see just how it goes.

Scott, it is the 1 byone 3100 for IPhone 6 and 6 plus. The review for this was
on Applevis written by Scott Davert, pardon if I spelled his name incorrectly.
It looks like from review that you can get a whole extra charge from the case.
Will let everyone know how that goes. I just found the battery case button so I
imagine it is not charged as I did not see the button when I charged my phone.
Really great price on Amazon of 34 dollars. With this I bought the keys-to-go
IOS keyboard with buttons across the top which allow touch to do some of the
things you do every day with your phone such as a key to open the app switcher
and keys to turn volume down and up and a home screen key. I received the case
today, but I am still awaiting the keyboard. Both items are reviewed on
Applevis under accessories with the case on page 1 and keyboard on page 2. Hope
this helps someone, probably more than you wanted to know! [smiles)

This is interesting. I bought a battery case for my 6s so I could have extra
battery life. When it arrived today there was a cord for charging, lightning
plug on one end and USB on the other. Along with this came a short cord with a
earphone end on one end that did not fit my earphone jack and a earphone jack
on the other that did fit earphones. So, what I believe is that as we buy new
equipment the adapters are being put in the package which means Apple is really
doing away with the 3.5, may have that incorrect, and going to a smaller
headphone jack. A friend said all this is being done to standardize all phones
to one standard. So, I have an adapter unless someone can tell me what else
that tiny cord could be used for. By the way, I have a battery case. Does it
charge with the phone or do I need to turn it on? Does
it automatically use charged battery in the case? Thanks for any thoughts and
information.

To answer your question, yes, I posted my feedback on this as a review in the

Hi:
I also would like to send a bug report to twitter asking them to fix this
issue. In fact, I was excitedly going to look at the moments from the Super
Bowl game yesterday, and upon opening the Iphone app using Voiceover couldn't
find the moments tab anywhere. Twitter needs to address this asap as moments
are indeed an important way to follow events from around the world. And, they
even have categories such as entertainment and sports.
My question is how do I submit a bug report similar to the one you submitted?
Did you just go to the twitter app in the app store, hit the reviews tab, and
tapped on the "write review" button and put your text in a review?
Or is there an actual "bug report" button?
I'd also like to send a similar report to Snapchat asking them to make their
app accessible as it's extremely popular and it makes me very angry that we are
left out of enjoying the videos and pictures on that very popular app.
Thanks,
Kerri

2016-02-08 Thread Christina C.
You can share playlists with each other though. It’s kind of cool. My kids can
share a playlist they created in apple music with me, I add it to my library.
Then I can listen to the playlist but I can’t make changes. If my kids change
their playlist then it is automatically updated in my apple music as well. At
least, that’s how it has worked for us so far. :)

Hi Amy,
Really stupid question. You do have the latest version of the app, right? The
only reason I ask is because there was a long while where it really wasn't

Subject: Focus 14 braille display won't stay connected to iphone

Using braille focus with iphone 5s and it won't stay connected while I'm
reading something or when it's idol for a while. It doesn't do any good to go
into accessibility, voice, over, and braille to repair it. Any suggestions?
