We just got the Apple Tv fourth generation. I know this may be a stupid

close them if that is the case?
Thanks for any help with this. We just got it set up tonight.

iOS 11 Beta: Can't Reinstall Hooke Audio app

2017-07-05 Thread Chris Smart
Problem: The Hooke Audio app wasn't recording past a few minutes,
ever since I installed the iOS 11 public beta. Yes, I know this sort
of instability is to be expected.

Anyway, I deleted the app outright, including its data, from inside
Settings > General > iPhone Storage.

Now that an update to the app has appeared today, I would like to
reinstall it. I can't "get" it. I can search for and find the app in
the App Store, but there is nothing to tap on to download the app again.

Anybody else noticed this, where a deleted app can't be redownloaded?

Chris

Vicki, when users mentioned participants, they may have imagined you had
created a group of people whom you wish to contact and that you wanted to view
that list. To view the people in your Contacts list who have WhatsApp
accounts, select either the Chat tab or the Call tab. Then, click the "New
Call" or "New Chat" icon, which will bring up a search bar and a full list of
people in your Contacts list who use WhatsApp.

Got a bluetooth keyboard case

2017-07-05 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I would like to thank Tara, and Alex to responding to my questions. I
was able to find a bluetooth keyboard case, for my iPad Mini, 4th
generation. I really like it a lot! And the price wasn't too bad, either.

So thank you again for the help. It is much appreciated.

Keeping the home button down does not stop siri from interrupting my dictation-

Mike,

One thing you can do is hold the home button the entire time that you wish Siri
to listen to you, this should eliminate the problems you have with pausing. I
do agree that using dictation seems easier because you can pause and resume
dictation using the 2 finger double tap.

I hope this is of some help.

Can you jail-break an Apple TV?

2017-07-05 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

Over the last few years I have heard people talking about jail-breaking
their iPhones, and I believe, iPods as well.

What I am wondering is, can you possibly jail-break a 4th generation,
Apple TV?

If you can do this, will it possibly take away any of the accessibility
features?

Also, if this can be done, what would be some of the benefits of doing this?

Any thoughts, or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: which GPS app should i buy?

2017-07-05 Thread Kelly Pierce
Chip,

Nearby Explorer for iOS recently updated its maps and they are current
from the first quarter of 2017. That’s impressive considering the
product was introduced in September 2016. Unlike online maps, Nearby
Explorer works great in urban canyons, in valleys with poor cell
service and in lightly populated areas with limited cell phone
coverage.

Andy,

To obtain directions on Nearby Explorer, double tap the search tab on
the bottom of the screen and type or dictate an address. Nearby
Explore will match the address to one it recognizes in its map. The
end user is presented with the option for either a list of directions
or for guided turn-by-turn directions. The app only provides walking
and driving directions though. Public transit directions are
available from Move It, Apple Maps or Google Maps.

Another consideration is where in the world you are located. You do
not say and this is an important consideration for anyone asking for
app recommendations. Nearby Explorer is only currently available in
North America while the other two have maps for other parts of the
world. Also, you do not say if you need the app in a language other

 Nearby

RE: which GPS app should i buy?

2017-07-05 Thread Richard Turner
No GPS is accurate enough to tell you exactly where the door is located.
That is where your cane skills come in, not to mention the willingness to ask
passers-by.
Or, open the door you find and ask if it is the correct location.
GPS is to supplement good travel skills, no one should depend on it entirely.

specifically an app to give direction from Point A to Point B, you can
use BlindSquare to get information about your environment, in

Re: which GPS app should i buy?

2017-07-05 Thread Tom Lange
Hi,
I'm coming in a bit late on this thread, but I'd like to first say that I've
been using Nearby Explorer for about six months and really like it. Though its
front screen is quite cluttered, you can hide items that you don't want on
that screen, thereby reducing that clutter.
I live in Los Angeles, and, quite frankly, depending on the time of day,
traffic, especially on the major freeways, is terrible. Having used both
Seeing Eye and Nearby Explorer extensively in vehicle mode, I've noticed that
neither app will give you alternate vehicle routes which factor in bad traffic
conditions. Normally my paratransit service will take me to and from work using
the 405 and 101 freeways, which is fine under favorable conditions. When both
freeways are jammed, I've used Waze to get alternate routes, and, what's cool
is, it will show you route options with their expected travel times and ETA's.
I don't know what algorithms Waze uses, but if they could be plugged into
vehicle modes in Nearby Explorer and/or Seeing Eye, that could be a very nice
feature.
Oh, and one more thing before I'm out of here. For those of you who really want
your phone to be a phone and, if you're contemplating buying a Victor Reader
Stream, check out the 2017 Convention podcast from Blind Bargains, which is all
about the new, soon-to-be-released Victor Reader Trek. I'm considering saving
up my ducats and buying one this fall. It will probably be a very nice device
indeed.

Is the app working now? Previously there seemed to be glitches when trying to

Hello Michael;
Yes, I believe this is a useful app.

Description

Yes Chef is the hands free cooking app that talks you through recipes, and
answers your questions. Use your voice to work through recipes and keep your
hands free to make great food! Yes Chef offers over 350,000 recipes -- what
will you make today?

Yes Chef will find you recipes, read you recipes, and answer recipe questions.
Yes Chef can answer questions like:

“Chef, how do I make Ratatouille?”
“Chef, what temperature do I set the oven to?”
“Chef, what’s the next step?”
“Chef, is it baking powder or baking soda?”

STEP BY STEP RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS

>From prep to plate, Yes Chef is entirely hands free. With the knife in one
>hand, all you have to say is, “Chef, let’s get started.” If you’re cooking
>chili
from scratch, Yes Chef may say “Dice the tomatoes.” Once you finish dicing
tomatoes, simply say “next step” and the app continues to read the recipe aloud.
Yes Chef will guide your cooking to new heights.

THE CONVERSATIONAL KITCHEN

Yes Chef is the first iOS voice-controlled natural language cooking app, making
technology less detectable and more useful in the kitchen. If you don’t
understand a step in the recipe, you can ask follow up questions, and because
the app is hands free, it won’t matter how grimy your fingers are. Our
technology
allows you to create deep cooking conversations with Yes Chef’s deep learning
engine.

THE PERFECT RECIPE

Yes Chef offers over 350,000 recipes! They are searchable by popularity,
keyword and filterable by cuisine. Whatever you want to eat, Yes Chef knows a
way to cook it.

Put your cookbooks down, and get more active in the kitchen. Time to make it a
little easier to prep, master new culinary techniques, and eat new recipes
that inspire you.

I would second, or third, the votes for BlindSquare. Though it is not
specifically an app to give direction from Point A to Point B, you can use
BlindSquare to get information about your environment, in conjunction with
Apple/Google Maps to get directions, or to look up other information like menus
from many restaurants. Also, it is updated fairly often with fixes and new
features. I recall seeing in the last update that their Open Street Map data
was updated, whatever that means. If you want something more "blindness
specific" which will tell you exactly where the door of a business is locate
relative to you, then go for one of the other more expensive apps. BlindSquare
works for me and suits my purposes.

and this is an important consideration for anyone asking for app

When you are on edit you flick down with one finger and you should see "select
all". DT then flick down to copy and DT.

Re: Galileo Maps

2017-07-05 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
good morning Richard,
thanks for your efforts! indeed, I also trawled through Google and various
websites for Galileo, and, I suppose, this is a sort of answer to my question,
to wit, can iPhones use the Galileo satellites? presumably we can, or they
wouldn't be maps for iOS. however, they are onboard maps, so, it's still not
quite clear. what surprises me is this: apparently, there is a system out there
which offers us infinitely greater precision, but nobody seems to be using it,
looking at it, celebrating it, or in any way relating to it. it feels unreal to
me! I am not aware of apps, such as BlindSquare, mentioning it. obviously, a
little more research is required…

thanks again, and I will get back to the list if I discover anything more
useful to us.
Good luck, Sandy

t-mobile directory assistance

Hi, how can some one get free directory assistance on t-mobile? I see they
charge a dollar and change per call. On straighttalk there was never a charge.

Thanks.
