Click on “Microsoft Security

sign in with your regular user name and password and it should take you
straight to the security settings, now look for “app passwords”. When you find
it click on “Generate” and copy the password that is generated, I think it’s 16
lower case numbers.

Interesting list. Since the context is the 4th column, I think it can be
rather confusing, but I’m glad that list is out there and yes, that is a great
site for those who can learn on their own with this kind of online resource.

The folks I work with, couldn’t do that as most of them don’t have computers.

  Thanks,

  Hi All

  If you go to:

  www.voiceover-easy.net

they have a glossary of all the voiceover gestures.

This is a brilliant website. If it wasn’t for the lessons on this site I
would not have learnt to use my IPhone.

  I can’t recommend it enough.

Hi all. Within the last week or so someone on this list talked about a

Unfortunately I've lost that email and would like to investigate the app.
Could someone please re-send the information. I thought I'd saved it, but
can't find the email. If you'd like to send it to me off list my email is

Re: KNFB Reader Pricing

2017-10-04 Thread Christopher Chaltain
My understanding is the same as Karl's. I'm not sure why people have to
jump to the conclusion that there's something going on here or that
anyone is playing games. I usually just take it at face value that
Google is discounting an accessibility app for no other reason then
helping out some blind people and getting some good will or press out of
the deal. I'm happy for the blind people who can take advantage of this
offer, and I don't resent it if I can't myself. The NFB also lumps it's
share of praise on Apple as well.

On 10/04/2017 11:22 AM, Karl Smith wrote:

To my knowledge the $19.95 price for the Google version of the KNFB
reader was available because of a donation from Google. As far as I
know the product isn’t free but does allow the user to have 25 free
scans before purchasing the product. The reason this doesn’t happen
with Apple is because of Apple policies and isn’t under control of the

There is definitely some sort of deal with Google and the NFB. For the
last couple of years, Google has been a "champion" of Accessibility
according to the NFB. I don't think Apple place those games, hence no
price break for Apple customers.

I suggest you read the fine print.

As I understand it, you have a free trial period with Android,
then the price is the same unless you come across a sale at
some point.

While I was there yesterday I found KNFB Reader, noticed

is a $100 price tag on KNFB Reader in the app store versus
no charge in the Play Store. What’s the story on that?

RE: The sounds in Seven Little Words have disappeared

2017-10-04 Thread deidre muccio

I believe you need to look for sound settings for each individual app. The
first listed have to do with phone but if you keep arrowing down you ought to
see the name of the app listed and then you can choose what you want. I hope
this is the case.
Then there is the rotor which you might have sounds in and it might be
switched off. I don't put sounds in the rotor because it is too easy to
accidentally turn them off. This must not be the case though since you are
getting some kind of sound verification.
The only other setting you might find is in the app itself when it is
open. Look for it at the top of the app or at the bottom where other "tabs"
appear... things like "settings, search, update, etc. If it has that, settings
such as sound settings should be there.
Good luck.

Subject: The sounds in Seven Little Words have disappeared

My phone used to give a little cheep sound when I got a tile correct, and a
bell-like sound with a
little reverberation , before the "Well Done" when I, successfully, filled in a
word.
Both of these have, now, disappeared.
I have worked my way through the Sunrise set of 25, and those for the last 30
days and am now on
2017 January/June.
Everything was going as it should until I got halfway through February, and
then, the nice sounds
had gone: well, there was never anything to enthuse about in the cheep
sound, but the "well done,
you clever thing, you" joined it! to be replaced by just a click, and then when
 I got to March,
even that solitary: easily missed click had gone, although I still do get
the spoken "well done"
message.
I have been to settings and located sound, but clicking it on or off does
nothing.

Re: Tips and Tricks: Ten Safari long-press shortcuts for iPhone and iPad

2017-10-04 Thread Mary Otten
Since this is supposed to be good for iPads, and I think, but I'm not totally
certain, that iPads don't have the 3D Touch feature, but this should work on
any iPhone. You might run into the same problem that people have been able to
distinguish between the press that brings up 3D Touch and the double tap and
hold that you need to do to activate these things.

Hello,

Often, double-tap and hold works for things requiring long presses. It's
definitely worth a try. I heard, for example, that it works on the Tabs button
for bringing up the option to close all tabs.

RE: Tips and Tricks: Ten Safari long-press shortcuts for iPhone and iPad

2017-10-04 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi, Thanks for this.

Is the long press only available on devices which are 3D touch capable, or does
this function predate 3D touch? I have an iPhone 7, but know some folks still
on iPhone 6 who may benefit from this knowledge.

Thanks in advance, Keith

Tips and Tricks: Ten Safari long-press shortcuts for iPhone and iPad

Safari for iPhone and iPad is an incredibly capable mobile web browser despite
its simple, straightforward user interface. It is the browser of choice on iOS
— in large part because it is the one pre-installed — but very few people know
everything you can do with Safari.

Much of Safari’s advanced functionality is hidden behind ‘secret’ long-press
gestures that you can’t really know about unless you try randomly … or someone
tells you. We’ve rounded up all the Safari long press tips and tricks below, so
you can take advantage of all the different shortcuts and features it offers.

You might know about a few of these, but this is a comprehensive list of the
various long-press actions hidden inside Apple’s mobile browser.

Some have been around for a long time, and at least one is brand new to iOS 11.

These shortcuts apply to iPhone and iPad, so you can use the tips on both
phones and tablets. The iPad has a couple unique actions related to the Split
View Safari mode.

Long press on the Back/Forward buttons

If you are browsing around the web, clicking through links, you are implicitly
building a navigation stack of pages for the current tab. Your browsing will
get added to the overall History but you can actually drill-down and see the
history of pages on a per-tab basis … using a long-press.

After browsing a little, hold down on either the Back or Forward buttons to
show a History pop-up panel. If you press on the back button, you can see the
breadcrumb trail of pages that you tapped on to get to the current page.

Similarly, long-press on the forward button to see all the pages that you have
navigated away from to get back to the current page in the tab. If you’ve
meandered into the depths of Wikipedia, for instance, this shortcut is a quick
way to return to the source article.

Long press on the Bookmarks button

[Image removed by
sender.]

On Safari for iPhone and iPad, the normal way to add a bookmark for a webpage
is to press the Share toolbar button and scroll through the activity pop-up to
select the Add Bookmark option. Using a long-press, you can do the same thing
more quickly.

Long-press on the Bookmarks button (which tapping on normally takes you to view
your bookmarks) and a new action menu appears. The modal features options to
Add Bookmark or Add to Reading List. Saving to Reading List is immediate,
whilst tapping the bookmark option will open the usual options view to confirm
the name and Favorites folder location.

Long press on the Tabs button

[Image removed by

The Tabs toolbar button is located on the right side of the screen, either at
the top on iPad or bottom on iPhone. Tapping it launches the carousel view of
preview cards for all the open tabs. However, you can also long-press it to
reveal several more options.

Without entering the tab screen, a long-press on the button reveals an action
sheet. You can close all open tabs in one tab or close the current tab. You can
also quickly open a new tab, either in a normal window or jumping to Private
Browsing mode.

If you long-press the Tabs button on iPad, you can also see options for Split
View tabs. You can ‘Open Split View’ if you are currently in full-screen mode,
or vice-versa and merge back down into a single view, without having to worry
about dragging and dropping tabs to the side of the display.

Long press on the Add Tab button

[Image removed by

If you accidentally close a tab and want to get back to it, the standard flow
would be to open History and scour through for the web page in the list. You
can speed this up considerably with a long press shortcut.

Press and hold on the Add Tab button (+ symbol) to view Recently Closed Tabs.

Re: Help a dummy. Quicknav and Apple TV

2017-10-04 Thread Carl de Campos
Hi Rob,

This is a very important question, as when my Apple Tv updated to OS 11 i was
confused and thought they broke the accessibility with Vo.

I couldnt get it back to how it was on OS 10, but if you rotar to direct touch,
then you can just lightly touch on the top, bottom, left, and right of your
Siri remote touch pad, and it will move as you used to when you swiped up,
down, left, or right,
And now if you swipe, you can also move across and up or down lists, but if you
swipe harder or further, you can actually jump quite a few list options at a
time, or if swiping softly, you will jump one or two at a time, but to ensure
to jump one at a time, rather just tap in that direction, try it, its pretty
cool once you get used to it.

Hi everyone,

But for now I'm assuming and I know that's dangerous, I can ask this question.
I have the Gen 4 Apple TV. Unbeknownst to me it updated to the latest IOS. I
assume it's some flavor of 11. Anyway when I fired up voiceover, I was in a
mode called QuickNav. I can't seem to swipe without a killer delay, and
sometimes it just won't work at all. I tried the rotor and could not find an
option to turn on or off this function. A. What is it? And B. how can I return
to Voiceover working the way I'm used to having it perform.
Thanks for your help.

Tips and Tricks: Ten Safari long-press shortcuts for iPhone and iPad

Tips and Tricks: Ten Safari long-press shortcuts for iPhone and iPad
9to5Mac / Benjamin Mayo

If you accidentally close a tab and want to get back to it, the standard flow
would be to open History and scour through for the web page in the list. You
can speed this up considerably with a long press shortcut.

Press and hold on the Add Tab button (+ symbol) to view Recently Closed Tabs.
These are the pages that were last opened before a tab was closed. It can come
in handy if you accidentally swipe a tab into oblivion or just remember there
was something else you meant to check.

The Add Tab button is always visible on iPad; on iPhone, find the + button in
the tab overview screen by first tapping on the Tabs button.

Long press on Done button in Tabs View

If you are already in the Tabs overview screen and want to delete all the open
tabs, you can long press on the Done Button and hit ‘Close All N Tabs’ button
in the menu that pops up.

iPad users will also see an option in this menu to Open Split View or Merge All
Tabs if Split View is already active.

Long press on a link in a webpage

Tapping on a link in a web page opens it. If instead of tapping you long-press
a link, you can access a variety of actions. For starters, the action sheet
includes the full URL of the link you have activated, so you can get a better
idea about where it will take you.

You can Open it, Open in New Tab or even Add to Reading List without ever
opening it. You can Copy the URL to paste into another app, or press Share to
reveal the full system share sheet. iPad users can also start a Split View
Safari

RE: KNFB Reader Pricing

2017-10-04 Thread Karl Smith
To my knowledge the $19.95 price for the Google version of the KNFB reader was
available because of a donation from Google. As far as I know the product isn’t
free but does allow the user to have 25 free scans before purchasing the
product. The reason this doesn’t happen with Apple is because of Apple policies
and isn’t under control of the NFB.

I suggest you read the fine print.

As I understand it, you have a free trial period with Android, then the price
is the same unless you come across a sale at some point.

If Im not mistaken, the developer of the KNFB Reader made some type of deal

It often clears up any lingering issues with a new install, it’s no different

I have updated my phones to IOS 11 and for the most part I like the upgrade and
the bugs I have noticed are not a real problem. I have no issues with voiceover
and no noticeable battery drain.
The issue that is annoying is the repeated notifications that I need to
complete the setup by using either the touch ID and Passcode, or Apple Pay or
Keychain. I would not mind one reminder but if I say not now, it keeps cropping
up from time to time. Is there a way to stop this very annoying feature? I can
make my own decision about what feature I want to use, so I don’t want to be
interrupted by these notifications.

I just upgraded the 6S yesterday, powered it down last night and when I powered
up this morning, it popped up to say I needed to finish the setup by setting up
Apple pay and keychain. The options are, Not now or Ok. I am going to try
tapping on okay and then see if I can opt out on these features. Maybe that
will stop the notifications. will report the outcome.

KNFB Reader Pricing

2017-10-04 Thread Tom Lange

Hi,

Well, I now have one foot in the Apple camp and one in the Google/Android camp
and have been learning to use a Samsung Galaxy S8 with Nougat and Talkback.
It’s neat to be able to “see how the other half lives”, so to speak, as I’ll be
able to gain some perspective on both devices, the underlying approaches and
philosophies and so on and I can then pass that information on to my students.
As I explore and play around, naturally I’m loading the S8 up with various apps
and am checking out the Play Store. While I was there yesterday I found KNFB
Reader, noticed that it’s free for Android users, so I promptly installed it
and put it to the test. I must say, its performance was very impressive on the
Samsung. My question is why there is a $100 price tag on KNFB Reader in the
app store versus no charge in the Play Store. What’s the story on that? Thanks,
Tom

No, even Apple told some of us this. Fixes are made in the release of
ios11.1 and later in a week or 4.

Boost Mobile

2017-10-04 Thread Tom Rash
I have always been with AT or Sprint. Thinking of moving over to Boost
Mobile. I'm currently paying around $75.00 per month currently. My phone
is no longer under lease. I have no desire to purchase a new iPhone for a
year or so. I currently have an iPhone 6S.

All that said, is anyone using Boost Mobile, and if so, what do you think of
their service? The price is right, about $32.00 per month.

didn't have to setup my phone from the scretch, yes I do accept, the
