Re: Favorite VO voices?

2017-11-19 Thread englishrider91
I can kind of see the snotty teenager thing for Sally, now that you mention it.
sherin drives me nuts. Again, way, way, way too deep for my taste. Ava sort of
has the same problem for me. I can't stand Nuance's Alison, either--she sounds
so pissed off to me. You want to hear another seductive-type voice, listen to
NeoSpeech Julie. She sounds all breathy. A friend of mine really likes her, but
I'm not really a fan. I pull a face every time I visit a Chase ATM, because
she's the voice on there. Ugh. If they'd gone with Kate or James when they
switched from Eloquence, I'd be happier.

Thanks,
Ari

For now, though, I use compact Samantha. I can't stand her HQ version. She
says things all weird. she has weird up/down inflections in her voice
between words and within words. A ton of the Acapela voices have this
issue, too. It's why I can't stand Heather. The Ivona voices have this
issue too, somewhat. But probably my biggest issue with them is that
they're so flatbe it's why Sally drives me nuts. She's pleasant enough to
listen to, if you can get over how incredibly bored she sounds.

The other voices I use are conpact Karen (the same issues I have with HQ
Samantha I also have with HQ Karen) and the HQ version of the old female
British English Siri voice. Funnily enough, I actually prefer her HQ
 version.

Speaking of HQ old Siri voices, has Apple fixed the issue of not being
able to use these voices in other apps, like Voice Dream Reader and the
Blindfold games? I'd really love to use the HQ version of the old British
English Siri voice in these apps, but I can't. Either she doesn't show up,
or when selected, doesn't work, and the LQ version is used instead.

Re: Question about the new iPhone ringtone

2017-11-19 Thread Kathy Brandt
Thanks for answering my question. I just took a chance, didn't choose any of
the options, and the purchase went through, and is just among my ringtones as a
choice, like I wanted. I got the iTunes store version entitled reflections
marimba; it appears among my choices after purchase as new marimba. For those
who want a more jazzed up version, there is one under the reflection title, I
think subtitled DJ remix.

Re: Amazon Echo devices

2017-11-19 Thread Deb Lewis
I believe the deals are only on Amazon but the easiest way to figure
that out is to check other sites.
OK. So here's my run down on the Echo family.
If you want to use A for smart home stuff I highly recommend one Echo
Plus so you'll ahve the hub built in. It's a lot of crap otherwise.
But it's really easy and efficient with the plus. You only need one
Plus. Once you've got a hub, everything else will use it. Kind of like
a router for your modem. Th ePlus is the best sounding Echo as well so
all in all I'd go for that.
So then the real question is about the Echo 2 aqnd the dots. Dots are
inexpensive, they'll sound cheap because they have no base at all. But
you can plug them into something else including your Sonos, so that's
OK. Amazon thinks you should just put htose around. So again,
depending on how smart you plan to make your home, Dots are useful to
ut in rooms where she needs to hear you give a command to something.
The Echo 2 sounds much better than the dot but not as good as the
plus. It's twice the price of the Dot in the states and you don't
quite get what you pay for. But still, if you're going to actually
listen to music on it and if you're not plugging into something else,
they're significantly better than the Dot.
The Tap is still in production too. It sounds pretty good. Not quite
as good as the Plus but actually better then the Echo 2 I think. And
it's portable. But it has limitations with respect to your smart home
plan.

Subject: Amazon Echo devices

Hi,

As Alexa is going to finally make it to Canada on December 5,

Amazon.ca now has the Echo Dot, Echo and Echo Plus for sale at a special
preorder price.

Could some of you from the States or other countries where Alexa has been
available explain a bit why I might want to own at least one Echo Plus which it
is said has a built-in smart home hub? Or do I even want one of these?

How is the sound on the Echo Dot, I understand it is meant to be connected to
other speakers or maybe even a receiver, but there is also mention that it has
a small built-in speaker, is that pretty OK for say listening to Podcasts or an
Audible book?

I am still potentially looking at buying a sonos 1 as well, but for some reason
I thought the Echo speakers were more expensive so especially the echo Dot at
an introductory price of $49.99 Canadian (regularly $69.99 after the
introductory special is over) might be a good choice. The regular Echo is on
for $99.99 (regular price will be $129.99 and the Echo Plus is on for $169.99
(regular $199.99).

I like the fact that all speakers apparently have a 3.5mm output jack and also
can send audio to a bluetooth headset. This might totally be the way how I
might listen to Audible books, insjtead of having to use my iPhone with headset
when I go to bed I could have an Echo Dot or Echo beside the bed and use it
either with a wired or bluetooth headset.

It also mentions any of the Echo speakers can do “Free audio calls to Canada,
the US and Mexico”. Does this mean I can tell it to call a particular number
just like I tell SIRI or can it even call a business just by saying call so and
so company?

Best regards,

Sieghard

and apparently others are also hoping that at some point soon this will be

Good evening all.Something got screwed up on my iPhone 6S.

2017-11-19 Thread cmohney1961

I have no idea how this happened or where to go to rectify this annoying
problem.
I was reading e-mail on my phone. It is reading me every punctuation mark. It
didn't happen until I updated it to the last ios update. Has anyone else
experienced this? Hopefully, I can fix this issue. I'm going to go into face
book to see if it does the same thing. Thank you for your assistance.

RE: Voice Dream Reader no longer linking with my Dropbox

Oddly enough, I have been getting that issue for the last two or three versions
of Voice Dream Reader. I am using a 6S+ iPhone so this may not apply depending
on what device you are using. However, after trying many times to connect to
Dropbox, and getting an error message, I discovered that if I tap the back
button after clearing the error message it throws me into my dropbox instead of
giving me the error message again. For example, I tap add. Then I see my
various options such as bookshare and dropbox. I tap on dropbox and I get the
error cannot connect to dropbox. I tap ok. Then I tap on back in the upper left
corner and it throws me into dropbox anyway.

Hope that helps.

RE: Bluetooth earpieces continuing to disconnect from iPhones

2017-11-19 Thread Cristóbal
You can either download the Plantronics desktop application and manage all
settings on the earpiece from there or use the iOS app. This is what I do. It’s
called PLTHub. You’ll go in there and see all the settings you can
enable/disable. Auto answer, auto play/pause, caller ID, Enable/disable HD wifi
calling, select a mute announcement, and so on. There’s even a find my earpiece
option, but it’s not usable for a VO user since the earpiece has to be
connected to the phone and well, if you’ve misplaced the earpiece, you’re
either going to have to break the connection somehow to get speech back or go
without sound. I guess if you have some working eyeballs you can borrow, you
could get them into the app to activate this feature, but still…

So… a few hours later and my Trekz headset has yet to drop. I did wear the
Voyager 3200 on a quick walk I did with my wife around the neighborhood and it
only dropped once for whatever that’s worth.

I mean, I’d be open to other earpieces, but from everything I’ve read, the
Plantronics Voyagers seem to be the best bet for mono style earpieces. The
Edge/3200 models have three microphones and the 5200 has four. These keep
popping up at the top of various tech websites for best reviewed in 2016, 2017,
etc.

Connectivity issues aside, I’m finding myself liking the Voyager 5200. It’s
much more comfortable than the old Legend it’s replacing and the incoming audio
call feels deeper and stronger. But man… is this thing huge.

The Edge and 3200 you just slip on, but this thing, it’s like you’re strapping
on a piece of equipment. I’m not a small guy either and it still feels
substantial. I’ve got a 45 day return window. So I’ll put these two new devices
through their paces for a few weeks more before I decide which one to keep.
Goes without saying if I can’t get the bluetooth thing resolved first. Then
they’re both going back.

I’m not inclined to go with the overall product quality issue quite yet. As I
mentioned, this appears to occur with multiple devices and headsets. Not
exclusive to Plantronics either. I don’t doubt that there could be a dud
earpiece here and there, but something that’s present on so many devices and
manufacturers seems indicative of some other type of issue.

For my part, I disable all the extra sensor stuff on my Voyager earpieces. Auto
answer, automatic answer when raising the headset, auto play/pause, etc. as I
mainly use them for making and taking calls and prefer to press the talk button
on the earpiece when taking a call. Any streaming audio listening I do is with
my Trekz or other stereo headsets.

I was poking around online and I guess this isn’t’ that rare of an issue.

The usual solutions are offered. Forget device, enable disable bluetooth, reset
network settings and so on.

One site suggests disabling bluetooth and then powering off then back on the
iPhone and then reenabling bluetooth. I hadn’t done this exact sequence before,
so I gave it a shot. I also went ahead and forgot all earpieces on both phones
before doing so as well.

So far, with my Trekz at least, I haven’t had a drop on my SE yet. I really
don’t use the Voyager devices on the weekend, so will have to wait for more
usage during the week to see if there’s any improvement there.

I get this very rarely with my Edge, but it was never enough to cause me any
worry.

What does cause me a lot more concern is the fact that my Voyager Edge might be
defective. When I turn it on the phone connects fine, Voiceover comes through
the earpiece but when I try to play a book from Audible or music in the music
app, it starts playing for a fraction of a second

As far as I knew, Tunein Premium doesn't seem to have any other device support

How do you disable the auto play/pause on the Edge?

Subject: RE: Bluetooth earpieces continuing to disconnect from iPhones

Have you tried disabling the smart sensors? If not a solution, it might be
diagnostic.

I get this very rarely with my Edge, but it was never enough to cause me any
worry.
What does cause me a lot more concern is the fact that my Voyager Edge might be
defective. When I turn it on the phone connects fine, Voiceover comes through
the earpiece but when I try to play a book from Audible or music in the music
app, it starts playing for a fraction of a second and then it stops. When I
check the play button has gone back to pause. It’s almost as if the sensor in
the headset might not work properly and it thinks it’s not in my ear.
Interestingly enough if I forget the device and then pair it again it works,
but usually only until I turn off the headset and turn it back on, then it’s
back to doing this and each time my only work-around is to forget the Edge and
pair it again which is of corse also a pain in the ear so to speak.
I’ll have to give Plantronics support a call, I originally bought the Edge on
Amazon, but this one is already a replacement for my first one where after a
couple of months the microphones decided to stop working, the earpiece worked
just fine for playback, but it would not understand any SIRI commands and if
somebody called me they simply would not hear me, almost as if it was muted
which it was not. I called Plantronics and they replaced it without fuss, but
if this defective replacement is now also defective it will be interesting to
see what they do. I like the earpiece, but it doesn’t give me too much
confidence in the quality.

Sieghard

RE: Problem with iPhone 6 Plus and phone calls

2017-11-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Flicking the nute switch will eventually send a call to Voicemail, but if
somebody calls and it goes to Voicemail before the other person even hears a
ring that would indicate a different issue.
I would do the following in this order:

  1. make sure Do Not Disturb is not on as Richard said and check the mute
switch just in case.
  2. if that doesn’t fix the problem reboot the phone.
  3. if it still doesn’t fix the problem remove the SIM card and insert it
again
  4. as a last resort do a Reset Network Settings.

I did it myself recently but realised what I'd done, so I know mine went to

If that isn't the issue, rebooting and then reseting are likely her other

Or, checking with her Carrier and/or Apple.

Hi Richard,

There is definitely something wrong then because that rotor issue was fixed in
the first release of iOS 11.1 and if it still persists fpor you something must
have gone wrong and I’d make sure you have a good backup and then do a restore.
You are the first person I heard say that in email the rotor still stays on
delete.

I do not know that everything is fixed, but the current version is iOS 11.1.2.
Check under Settings, General, About, to see which version you are running now.
I'd update as are still dealing with the problem deleting emails where the
rotor stays on delete.

Just install whatever it is giving you, then after it reboots check for updates
again and install 11.1.
The iOS 11.2 public beta is already on versin 4 so I wouldn't be surprised if
the public release of 11.2 will be available to everybody in 2 or 3 weeks.

As far as I can determine, if I set a Navigation Unit in one file, that setting

which add up over the course of a day as I need to frequently change between

Thanks in advance, Keith

Navigation unit settings in Voice Dream Reader

2017-11-19 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

Is there any way to set file specific Navigation Unit settings in VDR? For some
files, I want to adjust by 15 seconds, and for others I want to adjust by
Headings or Bookmarks.

As far as I can determine, if I set a Navigation Unit in one file, that setting
then applies to all files. It's not a big deal, but it does add a few steps,
which add up over the course of a day as I need to frequently change between
files over the course of a day.

Thanks in advance, Keith

RE: Bluetooth earpieces continuing to disconnect from iPhones

2017-11-19 Thread Cristóbal

Regards,

Sieghard

Or, checking with her Carrier and/or Apple.

Voice Dream Reader no longer linking with my Dropbox

2017-11-19 Thread Marcia Yale
Within the past week, I can no longer add files to Voice Dream from my
Dropbox. I have tried several times to unlink and re-link Voice Dream with
Dropbox but still get the error: "failed to link to Dropbox, or something to
that effect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Voice Dream Reader and
Dropbox, as suggested by Voice Dream's support person, but no luck. Has
anyone had this problem before and, if so, do you have a solution?

RE: ios updates

2017-11-19 Thread Jeremy Gilley
Hello,

I had to download the oldist update, then it showed me the newist updates.

hi richard,

as I said in my email I think I'm running 10.3.3 and I thought on my phone I've
seen updates since from like 11.0.2 but, now it's saying only ios 11 is
avalable to download and install. I'm wondering why it's going backwards and
not showing me the latest 11.1.2. How can I get it to update to the latest.
I've deleted the ios 11 update once or twice and it keeps saying 11 is ready.
Do I need to install 11 then it'll show the 11.1.32? I thought it would
showthe latest update no matter what version I'm currently running.

Have been struggling to scroll through the different categories of

Hi all
Hope this mail finds you well. Since the past few months, my KNFB

abruptly shut down. Also the app sometimes tends to hang, while trying
to save a document
Any idea?

Thank you all for your responses.
I finally selected the entire text using control, option, and the letter a.
Then I pressed control option plus the shift key and c to copy the text to my
clip board. Then I composed an e-mail to myself and pasted it into the body of
the message.
Thanks again for all responses.

I've never been able to do this so yes, maybe it does depend on the carrier.
But it shouldn't be that hard to copy that text and paste it into an email.

Hi, once upon a time you could go into the text message double tap on more and
forward that message to your own email, I haven’t tried in a long time, so I’m
not sure if this works.

RE: How To Download iPhone X Exclusive Reflection Ringtone And Then Set As Default On Any iPhone

2017-11-19 Thread Richard Turner
The web site Mark gave is not very user friendly.
I put the ringtone up on my web site. There are two versions, mp3 for easy
listening, then the M4R for downloading.
Or, if you are an Android user, and you want to mimic the superior smart phone,
you can use the MP3 file.
As I say on the site, to download it, you need to right click and select Save
Target As, or whatever phrase your web browser uses.
www.turner42.com
It is about the 7th heading.

Enjoy,
Richard

I downloaded the mega app and signed up. I have tried to get this ringtone but

Re: How to Force Restart iPhone X

2017-11-19 Thread rajmund .

hi,
some of us have light vision. as soon as the screen lights up, while
rebooting, the apple logo is displayed throughout. it's the same screen
that's out during updates, or so I'm told, and that just shows the apple
logo. again, I can't swear by it, but that's what I was told.

I really have to say that Apple seems to be forgetting the importance of
keeping things as simple as possible. I know these are smart devices and
I truly love everything I can do with my iPhone but needing a 4-line
description of the steps required to reboot an iPhone X seems a bit
much. I suspect with all those required hoops to jump through, users
won't be rebooting their iPhones very often.

Subject: How to Force Restart iPhone X

OS X Daily - Friday, November 17, 2017 at 11:41 AM How to Force Restart
iPhone X

If you need to force restart an iPhone X you will need to learn a new
method, because Apple has changed how you force reboot iPhone X compared
to prior iPhone models. This is partially because the iPhone X no longer
has a Home button, so the longstanding method of forced rebooting is no
longer possible with iPhone X.
Now with iPhone X, you will force restart the device by using a series
of button presses instead. This tutorial will detail exactly how you can
initiate a forced restart, sometimes called a hard reboot, of iPhone X.

The sequence is a little strange at first mostly because it s different,
breaking the habit you may have developed with force rebooting earlier
iOS devices, but once you get the hang of it you will be able to force
restart iPhone X almost as quickly as you could earlier devices. You ll
also need to be sure you press the buttons in the proper order as
described, otherwise the iPhone X will not force restart.

How to Force Reboot iPhone X
You must press the buttons in sequential order for iPhone X to force
restart, the first two buttons are pressed and then released, and the
final button is held until the force reboot occurs. Here s how it works:

1. Press Volume Up, then release
2. Press Volume Down, then release
3. Press and hold the Power / Lock button on the right side of iPhone X
4. Continue to hold the Power / Lock / Side button until the ? Apple
logo appears on screen of iPhone X

It may feel like it takes a while to see the ? Apple logo appear on
screen, but once you do see it you will know you have successfully
forced the iPhone X to restart.
Remember, you must follow the proper order of pressing the buttons to
force reboot iPhone X, if it fails then just start over and try again.
If you try and press the buttons concurrently you ll likely either take
a screenshot on iPhone X or initiate the Emergency Calling feature,
neither of which you are likely trying to do if you simply want to force
the iPhone to restart. The proper way is: Up, Down, hold Power.
This is yet another evolving change in the iOS world, but it turns out
that force restarting iPhone X with the new button sequence is actually
also how you force reboot an iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, though it is
different from force restarting iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which is
also different from forcibly rebooting iPhone 6s, 6, 5, 4, and iPad
models with clickable Home buttons. With the steps changing on several
occasions, perhaps we ll see another change with forced restarts on iOS
devices down the road, time will tell.

Oh and by the way, you can also preform a regular reboot of iPhone X by
simply turning it off and back on again. You can do that with the
Power/Volume button press, or with the method that works on all modern
iOS versions by turning off the iPhone or iPad via Settings, without
using the Power button and then simply turning it back on again.

If that isn't the issue, rebooting and then reseting are likely her other
choices.
Or, checking with her Carrier and/or Apple.

ios updates

2017-11-19 Thread Billy Maynard

hi everyone,

I have a strange issue. Atleast strange for me. I am running the latest
ios 10.x update I was waiting for the ios11.1 update that you all said fixed
all of the issues in 11.x. I got Ithink upto ios 11.01 or so update notices
I keep refusing to install those. now my iphone 6+ is saying ios 11 is
ready to install. I deleted this update and waited for it to recignise the
latest ios 11 update and it's still saying only ios 11 isready. it's not
saying ios 11.1 is ready when I knowthere's later than ios 11 taht have been
released.

What are my options here? update to 11.0 then try to get later updates or
keep deleting and trying to ge the latest?

Re: Problem with iPhone 6 Plus and phone calls

2017-11-19 Thread Richard Turner
Has she checked that Do Not Disturb didn't get turned on?
If that isn't the issue, rebooting and then reseting are likely her other
choices.
Or, checking with her Carrier and/or Apple.

Football manager

2017-11-19 Thread Jeremy Gilley
Hello,

I have tried to find this game, but all I see is soccer manager games.

Is there an actual football manager game?

Or should I say a football manager according to the American meaning of
football?

Re: Question Football manager on iphone

2017-11-19 Thread Gianni
Hi man, thanks. It is a fantastic game.
I only have some questions:
When my managers choses the starting eleven, can I push him which players to
take?
How can I make my players more happy before a game?
My team has 33 as strength, how can I make my team stronger? I know I can buy
players, but is there another way?

RE: Bluetooth earpieces continuing to disconnect from iPhones

2017-11-19 Thread Richard Petty
Have you tried disabling the smart sensors? If not a solution, it might be
diagnostic.

Subject: RE: Bluetooth earpieces continuing to disconnect from iPhones

Sieghard

have not experienced this problem. It sounds like something you really need to

Hello list,

So, I’m in the process of trying out a couple of new earpieces to replace my
Plantronics Voyager Edge. I’ve got them both connected to my personal iPhone SE
and business 5S. Both phones have been updated to iOS 11.x. Although, this
issue has been around with previous iOS versions. Maybe at the same rate or
perhaps I’m just noticing it more now and am less patient considering this is
occurring on both new earpieces, but on both phones, the bluetooth connection
keeps dropping with both of these earpieces.

I’m always getting a phone one/ phone two disconnected/ phone one/phone two
connected notice in my ear which is annoying to say the least. I used to get
this on my old Edge, but I thought maybe it was a function of the edge needing
to be replaced. I’m not so certain anymore. I also have a pair of Aftershokz
Trekz Titanium bone conduction headphones only connected to my personal SE that
gives me a bluetooth disconnected/bluetooth connected message as well. In fact,
I got a warranty replacement for the Trekz since the first headphones kept on
dropping the bluetooth, but these new ones are doing the same thing.

To be clear, I do recall this occurring on prior iPhones I’ve owned and since
it’s happening on all devices, I’m pretty certain it’s not an issue with one
particular phone or earpiece. In this case, a Voyager 5200 and Voyager 3200
along with the Voyager Edge and Trekz. My impression is that the 3200 is
disconnecting more frequently than the 5200, but that could just be me.

I have done the whole forget this device on both phones and re-pared, but still
the same issue. Bluetooth doesn’t seem to drop while using the earpieces (in a
phone call or streaming audio of some sort), but rather when the phones are
inactive. In my pocket, on the desk etc. Also if I wake the phone and try to
unlock will the connection drop every now and then. On my trekz, the connection
is always reestablished on its own right away, but with both these new voyager
earpieces, I find myself having to press the talk button to trigger whatever
needs to be triggered for the connection to be reestablished.

Considering that I’m experiencing this issue with multiple earpieces and on
multiple devices, I don’t know what to do since it doesn’t seem to be device
specific. Phones are up to date, firmware on the earpieces that have firmware
are updated and so on.

Is anyone else dealing with this rather annoying problem and do they have or
know of a fix for

2017-11-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I agree with Kelly, it's mediocre at best. I like ringtones created from songs
to a point, but there is something to be said for other ringtones (not sure
what to call them, but just not song-based ringtones). I usually use iTunes to
create my song-based ringtones, it's already on my computer and it works well.

Hello Kelly,

I guess it's a matter of opinion.

I rather like the new ring tone. So much so that I have set it as my default
on my iPhone 8 Plus. Once I get tired of it, I'll demote it to something used
less frequently, say, new voicemail notifications. (smile)

Reflection sounds so mediocre. I could not believe Apple created this as an
iPhone X exclusive. With the money it has, it could have hired great composers
and musicians to create memorable iPhone ring tones for the iPhone X. After
hearing reflection for the first time, I was motivated to learn how to create
my own ring tones using MP3 Direct Cut and online conversion services. I now
have a set of 30 second clips I use as ring tones from some of the best music
in jazz and rock and roll from people like Eric Clapton, Joe cocker, Todd
Rundgren, Bob Dylan, The Band, Miles Davis, Kenny Burrell and the Beatles.

forward that message to your own email, I haven’t tried in a long time, so I’m

RE: Bluetooth earpieces continuing to disconnect from iPhones

2017-11-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Regards,
Sieghard

I have a voyager legend. And I have an iPhone 7 Plus. Unfortunately, while I
don’t use Bluetooth every day all the time, I do use it fairly often. And I
have not experienced this problem. It sounds like something you really need to
talk with Apple about. I hope you have AppleCare.

Hello list,
So, I’m in the process of trying out a couple of new earpieces to replace my
Plantronics Voyager Edge.
Is anyone else dealing with this rather annoying problem and do they have or
know of a fix for it?
Thanks,

RE: The Mail App and rather I should update to the latest update

2017-11-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Before you check the app store just make sure it didn’t simply get moved
accidently.
Touch any app on the home screen and then swipe down on the screen with 3
fingers to open spotlight search (same gesture as for opening notification
centre except for this one you touch an item in the dock, not an app on the
home screen).
Type “Mail” in the search box and see if the mail app shows up.

As for updating to 11.1, absolutely, there have been several important bug
fixes and you should definitely update.

Hello everyone,

I want a couple of questions answered, if possible, please. I didn't
want to make this in to 2 different messages.

I don't see the Mail App on my phone anymore?

What happened to it?

And how do I now get to it?

Also, I was wondering, is it wise to update to 11.1?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri
