It probably would work with an iPod, since it does with an iPad. One would have
to have an iPhone for it to work though.

I know people complain why Apple didn't put their latest A12 chip into the

No, the iPod Touch is only a Wi-Fi device, with no cellular capacity.
You can do FaceTime audio or video calls over Wi-Fi, or Skype.
But, you can use any app on the iPod Touch that you can use on the iPhone if it

Re: New iPod touch announced

2019-05-29 Thread Arlene
Richard, We'lll have to read about the ipod touch, but I have a few questions.
Can you make phone calls on the ipod touch and also everything you can do as
far as apps that you use on your iphone can you use on the ipod touch? Thanks.

For comparison, the iPod touch 6th generation has the A8 chip, the new touch
has the A10 chip. The iPhone SE has the A9 chip; so the new Touch can do all
the Augmented Reality visual stuff, etc.
It would appear to still have a home button, 3.5 MM earphone Jack, etc.
Just out of curiosity, I checked for refurbished iPod Touch 6th generation
touches and a 128 GB model is $215 while a new Touch with the same memory is
$299.
I guess it depends on what one will be doing with it whether it would be
worth it.

Going from an iPod Touch 5th Gen to this newly announced model would be a
huge difference, the 5th generation iPod touch has an A5 chip which is even a
step down from the iPhone 5 which had an A6 chip which means it was far from
supporting 64 Bit.
I know people complain why Apple didn't put their latest A12 chip into the
iPod Touch, but the same people would probably complain if Apple did and it
would cost $50 or $80 more, also, I have a feeling that for what most people
use an iPod Touch for simply does not require such a powerful processor.

You could possibly use it for beta testing if you're into that. Or a
streaming device. Yeah I don't know why they did the A7 instead of the A11 or
A12.

They should at least have put in the A11 chip.

like my iPhone 7 Plus. No other significant changes that I am aware of, except
the space. The cheapest one has 32 GB for $200, 128 for 300, and 256 for 400.
Earlier this year, they released the iPad mini five, with the A 12 chip. That
is the current chip. I can’t remember the prices for iPad mini, but my gut
reaction when I saw this, it was that Apple was cheeping out. They should have
given us at least the A 11 if not the 12th. I am really disappointed. I was
looking forward to perhaps purchasing an iPod touch, but now that I see that it
has the same processor as my iPhone 7 Plus, forget it.

Hi all!

Here is a Drop Box link that you can just enter on and download a folder of
many Windows 10 text tutorials.

You will know how to do everything with Windows 10 after reading these.

I want to encourage you that these tutorials are very easy explained.

They were written by Jim Flusche!

Please save these, because you will be set with windows 10 with these.

I suspect your best bet would be to open them with Openbook and save in word or

If you don't still have Openbook, I'm not sure what you can do.
Maybe do a web search for opening openbook .arc files and see what comes up.

Also once I’ve gone into the braille keyboard I can’t figure out how to easily

Opening old OpenBook Files

2019-05-29 Thread Holly Jensen
Hello,

a number of years ago, I switched to the Mac. However, I retained an old XP
machine that I used for a few little things, such as reading old .ark files
produced in OpenBook. Now, I am looking to switch completely to the Mac and
finally find a place to recycle the old machine. My only problem is find a way
to continue being able to read those old books. Does anyone know of an app for
Mac or IOS that reads Arkenstone documents? Thanks.

I wouldn't be to concerned re win7 not being supported after that date.
Remember that computer users still stuck with outdated programs long
after support was discontinued so until 7 develops a major failure, I
will stay with it.  However, I gather that if I did upgrade to 10, I
would not be stretched beyond breaking point to learn how to operate it.

native onscreen keyboard questions

2019-05-29 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
Hi all. I’m trying out the native onscreen keyboard and have several
questions. First of all, can you make it your default keyboard? If so,
how?

Second, once I get into the keyboard using the roter, how can I review what
I’ve written?

Also once I’ve gone into the braille keyboard I can’t figure out how to
easily get back to the home screen. Probably these are basic questions
which I should be able to figure out, but I can’t seem to.

Any help would be appreciated. I’m currently using MBraille, but would like
to give the native Braille app a try.

Thanks in advance.

God bless!

Paula and Garçon

Wi-Fi.

2019-05-29 Thread Carolyn Arnold
I went through all of the fields for Wi-Fi calling, but once
I got to NC, my state, I couldn't find Done or anywhere else
to go beyond that. My carrier does support Wi-Fi calls,
since my cousin has the same carrier and has Wi-Fi calls.

Re: New iPod touch announced

2019-05-29 Thread Mary Otten
Well, I would not have minded a $50 price increase for a better chip which
would mean more updates. Also, they should’ve made the entry level 64. They’re
just being cheap. My guess is that in two years, that thing is not going to be
seeing updates any more. Then what?

Re: Best mini blue tooth keyboard

Hi,

Keyboards are kind of personal but I really like the Keys to Go.I’ve used it
hard for at least 3 years and it’s going strong.

It’s super thin and light weight but does not fold. I like the action when I
type.

Re: New iPod touch announced

2019-05-29 Thread Richard Turner

For comparison, the iPod touch 6th generation has the A8 chip, the new touch
has the A10 chip. The iPhone SE has the A9 chip; so the new Touch can do all
the Augmented Reality visual stuff, etc.
It would appear to still have a home button, 3.5 MM earphone Jack, etc.
Just out of curiosity, I checked for refurbished iPod Touch 6th generation
touches and a 128 GB model is $215 while a new Touch with the same memory is
$299.
I guess it depends on what one will be doing with it whether it would be worth
it.

Going from an iPod Touch 5th Gen to this newly announced model would be a huge
difference, the 5th generation iPod touch has an A5 chip which is even a step
down from the iPhone 5 which had an A6 chip which means it was far from

I know people complain why Apple didn't put their latest A12 chip into the iPod

cost $50 or $80 more, also, I have a feeling that for what most people use an

They should at least have put in the A11 chip.

RE: New iPod touch announced

2019-05-29 Thread Larry Lumpkin
Sieghard or anyone else: Can someone give me a quick run-down of what makes the
new ipod touch different from the ipod touch 6? Sieghard, I agree with you. I
wouldn't expect apple to put their best chip in an ipod touch. Like you said,
people are going to complain either way.

Going from an iPod Touch 5th Gen to this newly announced model would be a huge
difference, the 5th generation iPod touch has an A5 chip which is even a step
down from the iPhone 5 which had an A6 chip which means it was far from
supporting 64 Bit.
I know people complain why Apple didn't put their latest A12 chip into the iPod
Touch, but the same people would probably complain if Apple did and it would
cost $50 or $80 more, also, I have a feeling that for what most people use an
iPod Touch for simply does not require such a powerful processor.

Re: VoiceOver not reading alt text on an image

2019-05-29 Thread Richard Turner
Donald,
That code looks the same as what I use on my web site.
VoiceOver reads my page just fine.
I used a JPG image file, but that shouldn't make any difference.
Is the entire web page available to check out?
I wonder if either no size, or a larger size would make a difference.
Because of the images I used, mine are 200 by 200.
Logic would say, the size shouldn't matter.
Richard

In fact with JAWS I don't even have to specify the height and width

Does anyone have any idea why this wouldn't work on VoiceOver and Safari?

RE: Phone choices.

2019-05-29 Thread Carolyn Arnold
Points well taken. I considered that about the most updates. I would say, that
unless the 8 would be half or less than, say, an XR, then it would be probably
a better investment to go to an XR. Then, who knows what is coming up. This
fall should be interesting.

Best regards,

Carolyn

My general advice is to get the most recent iphone you can afford so you will
have as many iOS updates as possible. In going for an 8, you sacrifice face ID
found on the X series. A rumor circulating is that Apple plans a phone either
in 2019 or 2020 that will have both face ID and a fingerprint sensor.

You could possibly use it for beta testing if you're into that. Or a
streaming device. Yeah I don't know why they did the A7 instead of the A11
or A12.

They should at least have put in the A11 chip.

A lot of windows 7 users are going to have to start using windows 10. Windows

Hi!

Like Sandra said, there is not much of a learning curve to Win10.

I used Windows 7, and went right into Win10.

The search function pretty works the same in the start area.

You can get rid of the app tiles in Win10 if you want to make it look much more
like Windows 7.

I picked up my Android phone quickly as well.

I did not get a smart phone until December, and like you guys, I don’t know how
I did without the phone!

I can do tasks in seconds on the smart phone that is very difficult to do on
the computer.

Also, there is an area in Win10 where all the settings are all divided into
neat categories.

You don’t have to go looking through the control panel.

I never liked doing that in XP.

I have a lot of tutorials on using Win10 that I can send you.

You will get so much help, and you do not have to use everything in Win10. If
you do not care about some of the new features, you do not have to worry about
them.

Have a great one, guys!

The good thing is, there isn't a huge learning curve into Win. 10. I expected
worse, but have acclimated pretty well--which, for a technophobe like me, is
saying something. You will do fine! I wish I had had help with my iPhone 8. At
least there are some Braille learning materials for it!

Hi Sandra:

Well, it takes me some time to get dragged into a new device, after I have

mastered a certain one. I had to be dragged, kicking and screaming, away

from XP.

I am lucky to have a non-profit for blind people in my area, and was able to

get one on one instruction for learning the computer and jaws for free.

Also, I got a bit of help when I first got my iPhone a couple of years ago.

I was behind the curve on getting a smart phone, but eventually, I follow

the crowd.

I don't know how I ever got along without it now.

I know I will bee having to upgrade to Windows 10 soon, but not excited

about it.

I do enjoy learning new things though, even if I am slow at moving forward.

VoiceOver not reading alt text on an image

2019-05-29 Thread Donald Raikes
Hello,

I am working on developing a webpage for training colleagues how to
use VoiceOver. One thing I did was to include an image on the page
with an alt text.

When I use safari on my IPhone to access the page, VoiceOver does not
read the alt text.

the html code is:

According to everything I have read this should work, and it does work
with JAWS on firefox on my windows computer.
In fact with JAWS I don't even have to specify the height and width
for it to work.

Does anyone have any idea why this wouldn't work on VoiceOver and Safari?

Thanks,
Don

I thought I would pose this question, since Apple just announced the update of
the iPod touch today. It will have the a10 processor,
the same one that is in an iPhone 7 or 7+. That makes it two years old going on
three, just like my iPhone 7 Plus. No other
significant changes that I am aware of, except the space. The cheapest one has
32 GB for $200, 128 for 300, and 256 for 400. Earlier

New action game for beta test

2019-05-29 Thread 'Ming' via VIPhone
the following info is from apple Vis website
New action game for beta test
Good morning everybody,
I’ve been working on a new iPhone-iPad game called Westopia and I’m glad to
announce that I have finally something to show you!
The game is almost finished but before releasing it in the AppStore, I’ve
decided to show it to those of you that want help me to improve the game
experience overall.
There are some little issues that have to be corrected, I would like to adjust
also the difficulty of the game.
The game has passed already the Apple control and is ready to be downloaded via
TestFlight. TestFlight is an Apple App that allows testing the game only by
following the instructions from this link:
https://testflight.apple.com/join/hoRi2HrS
The test are available for everybody and are 100% anonymous and don’t have any
direct contact with me. Your suggestions can be made via the TestFlight App or
emailing me to fruit...@icloud.com
The idea is to weekly release new test versions with all the improvements that
you suggest; and hopefully in a few weeks release the AppStore version.
Thanks in advance for those of you that will test the game, and thank all off
you for your patience.
The introduction to the game is the following:
Westopia is the name of a small town in the Old West, where sometimes, the
outlaws try to steal from the citizens.
Your goal is to fight the bandits to make them leave the town.
The game is a crossover between a boxing or street fights game and a heroes
card game.
On every level you get around six different hero cards, each one with their
power, speed, brains and stamina.
Then you fight the group of bandits, the combats are one against one and you
have to select an adequate card for each bandit.
Anytime you can tag another fighter, as can the bandits.
No internet connection or login is needed.
This game is 100% accessible with voiceOver.
