RE: Writing in Spanish on the iPhone

2020-09-11 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
A quicker way if you don’t' want to bother switching between keyboards just for
the odd letter is to double tap and hold on the letter and once you hear a
little trill sound effect slide your finger to have VO announce the alternative
letters. Once you land on the one you want, lift your finger and keep typing.

RE: Last-Pass help.

2020-09-11 Thread Alan Lemly
Jenny,

I don't use LastPass but if you've copied your email account password to your
clipboard, you should be able to paste it to the app or website requesting it
by pasting it with ctrl + v. Otherwise, you can open a Notepad document and
paste it there if you want to review it.

Most password managers don't have a way to access your data if you forget the
master password. If they did, that would sort of defeat the security of your
information

Hi,
you can go to edit then show password. Or just click the copy. If you forget
your master password as far as I know you are shot. After all that is the point
of a good password manager you only have to remember one password.
Max.

Re: looking for accessible apps for emergency info, wildfire especially. I live in Portland Oregon

2020-09-11 Thread Teresa Christian
I think someone suggested to try Newsline.
I took that suggestion and I didn't find any alerts. I know in the
past I remember seeing alerts, but today I didn't find any, but that
is a good idea to at least check.

Ok, I have resisted Twitter but now you're making me think I should
give it a shot to stay on top of more important info, alert things
etc.
I thought the iPhone had a native twitter app, but I didn't find it.
What do you guys have good luck with?

Re: Editing a dropbox file

2020-09-11 Thread Chris Chaffin

I am not sure what type of file you are wanting to edit, but if it is a plain
text file, then I just found a way of editing it right in the Dropbox app.

Here are the steps:

1, Double tap on the file you are wanting to edit.
2, Go to the bottom of the screen where it says Open Comments.
3, Now swipe left going back up the screen until you come to edit.
4, By double tapping on this edit button, it will bring up an edit field with
the text of the file in it.
5, Now you can not navigate inside the edit box by swiping. You have to use
standard navigation found on the rotor.

Now I can not say that this edit button is a feature for certain Dropbox
subscriptions, or if it is available for all accounts, including free accounts.
I am hoping that it is available for everybody.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Try "rentals". It's a companion to the "realtor.com" app. They're accessible
once you learn their minor quirks.

Happy househunting,

Hi, can anyone recommend a good accessible iOS app for searching for
rental properties? Or, if you know of good services with accessible
websites, that would be great as well. Thank you in advance.

2020-09-11 Thread B. J. Maynard

hi Mary,

I think it is a bit cumpersum but, if you open the message, there's a
button at the top that isthe number. if you double that that then find
that button again it usualy has choices like audio, facetime, info, if you
swipe left to the phone number button again and double tap it again you'll
find a details page Ithink you can use to add to contaxts, exhisting
contacts etc. I hope I'm right.

I have a contact who has recently changed her phone number. I have a text
message that she sent from her new phone number, and I would like to get
that phone number into her contact so that I have the right number. I haven’t
found a way to do that in the Messages app. I’ve looked for actions, but
nothing helps. Double tap and hold brought up a context menu that had
nothing useful in it. So, there must be away, and it’s probably something
easy that I’m overlooking.

Re: Translator

2020-09-11 Thread Jasmine Kotsay
Sorry for replying to this thread so late! I think that would be great if Apple
did have a translator app. What I would love is for something to work so that
when I text a friend who has her phone set to Spanish, she can get her text
messages in Spanish, and even if she texts me back in Spanish, I can still read
it in English. Does that exist? It would be great if it did!

RE: looking for accessible apps for emergency info, wildfire especially. I live in Portland Oregon

2020-09-11 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
Because this is the world we now live in, for those who are in San Bernardino
County her in Southern California, this site where you can register to receive
emergency alerts via phone, text or email may also be useful
http://www.sbcounty.gov/SBCFire/TENS/TENSContact.aspx?utm_content=buffer776be_medium=social_source=twitter_campaign=buffer
I'd have to imagine that other counties have similar set ups.
Also, I find that of the social media platforms, Twitter's best with giving
updates inn real time for this sort of stuff. Some accounts I follow are: CA
Fire Scanner (@CAFireScanner), Daniel Swain (@Weather_West), San Bernardino
National Forest (@SanBernardinoNF), SB County Fire (@SBCOUNTYFIRE).
There are others out there of course, but these are the ones that are more
focused on my area/state. I also follow my local city and police/sheriff
accounts. I bailed out on Facebook last year because as it was getting too
toxic for my taste and NextDoor is more gossipy and prone to rumors and doesn't
really give any information that's faster or more relevant than the accounts I
already follow for this sort of stuff. I don’t' really do police scanners so
can't comment on that.
Stay safe everyone.

Subject: Re: looking for accessible apps for emergency info, wildfire

Thanks everyone! I so appreciate all the helpful info.
I ended up calling AIRA and getting them to help me get signed up on the public
alerts website.
There was also a spot to register as a blind person. I have resisted that in
the passed but went a head and did it tonight.
It sounds like my question was helpful for several other people.
I don't read all of the emails on this list, but I read quite a few of them.
I don't say much too often but every time I have there is always useful help
and I greatly appreciate that.
To Richard Turner, you are a very good JAWS user, lol, a trainer, so if even
you found both the KXL and Red Cross sites impossible, I know it wasn't just
lack of skill on my part. Yay!

I found the number for the Red Cross and plan to call and ask about shelters.
Yes we are not on any alerts, but by the time we would be, it would be too late
to figure something out.
Planning helps me not feel quite as anxious.
Also the alert system is set up with sighted folks with cars so for those of us
who don't have car access it would be too late if we waited to leave at the
level 3 alert.
That one is leave right now.
The fire probably won't get this far into town, but with the way fires are
these days, how crazy fast and crazy huge, you never know.
Santa Rosa California mostly burned a couple of years ago the population there
is 175 thousand in the city proper and a lot more in the outlying areas. It has
burned to the ground several little towns here in Oregon and Washington, well
California for that matter.

Again, thanks for all the help guys!
Teresa☺

Thanks Teresa for the kind words.

You may, or may not, have heard that I get to retire in a week, so the
"trainer" label will only apply in my volunteer life.

Hi, can anyone recommend a good accessible iOS app for searching for
rental properties? Or, if you know of good services with accessible
