Re: siri quit saying things regarding sports

2020-10-12 Thread James English
Hi,

This seems to be a problem with all the virtual assistants. Alexa will
tell you the score but won't tell you who scored, instead insisting
that 'nobody has scored a touchdown.' The saints-chargers game
finished 30-27, that's a lot of field goals.

OT: Strange VPN problem

2020-10-12 Thread Ketan Kothari
Hi Friends,

I apologize for raising a slightly off-topic issue. But since I don't
know any other list I am bothering you all.

I have 2 phones 1 Iphone Xr and an Android Nokia 7.2 and am using the
latest OS. I have used several VPN programmes including Sirfshark,
Windscribe, Tunnelbear etc. and am connecting to UK as per my IP
address but am unable to listen to geoblocked cricket commentary.
Others in my city and country are able to do so. I tried both Wifi
and mobile data but am failing. What could be the problem? Earlier I
have used VPN successfully several times. Please do guide as I love
cricket and am missing it badly as India is not broadcasting it.

Thank you.

Re: Siri quit saying things regarding sports

2020-10-12 Thread Holly
Marv:

Yes, lots of people have reported that Siri is not telling scores of games
either.

When I asked her to tell me the scores of yesterdays NFL games, she sent me to
the web. She used to always give a rundown of the latest scores, and also the
score of a certain game in real time.

I think others have reported the same problem with Google assistant and some
smart speakers.

RE: Hi to all, can someone help me put ringtones on my iPhone 8

2020-10-12 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Joshua,

Okay, I am going to paste in an article I wrote about 3 years ago that should
answer your question. Even though I mentioned Windows 10, in the article, the
steps definitely apply to Windows 7, 64-bit, as well.

So, read on:

Mark's Accessibility Steps for Using iTunes 12.7 for Windows, How To Manage
Custom Ring Tones, etc.

On Sep 22, 2017, at 1:36 AM, M. Taylor wrote:

Hello Everyone,

I am going to cross-post this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries
mailing lists for those who, like me, use both iTunes for Windows and Mac.

First, let me state that I just spent the past hour working with iTunes 12.7
on two Windows 10 PCs in conjunction with an iPhone 6 S Plus, running iOS
11, with the latest version of Jaws on both computers.

Second, there are some initial video driver problems with iTunes when Jaws
is running. Therefore, I suggest that you launch iTunes, at least once,
without Jaws running-using, perhaps, Narrator, as the screen reader. After
that, you should be good to go with Jaws running with iTunes 12.7. This was
my experience on two Windows 10 PCs.

Third, be aware that some Jaws commands, including the Application button,
do not work on selected items in iTunes 12.7. There are easy workarounds
but I just want you to know that if you encounter problems, it's probably
not your fault.

Fourth, be sure to explore iTunes 12.7 for Windows using the F6, Tab, and
arrow keys to gain a better understanding of the somewhat new layout of the
application.

Fifth, As in the previous version of iTunes, selecting the Summary tab, when
your iOS device is connected to iTunes will display the same options as in
iTunes 12.6 including the ability to configure accessibility settings.

Sixth, In order to add/or remove custom ringtones to and from your device,
you must make certain that the Manually Manage Videos and Music checkbox
option is, checked. If you have to place a checkmark in the checkbox, be
sure to hit the Apply button to save this change, okay?

Okay, now to the fun stuff. In iTunes 12.7 for Windows, it is no longer
necessary to actually use the file menu to import ringtones. In fact,
attempting to do so will gain you nothing. (smile). So, to add a ringtone
to your device, using Windows Explorer, copy the file to memory using the
standard windows command of Control+C.

Next, with iTunes 12.7 in focus, your iOS device attached to your PC and
selected, using standard jaws navigation commands, place focus on the Tones
tab, located in the iTunes Sidebar. Oh, make sure that you have iTunes set
to display the Sidebar.

Now, once you have the Tones tab selected, press the Tab key on your
keyboard until you land in the list view of currently installed custom
ringtones. Then, simply use the paste command, Control+V, to add the
ringtone to your device.

By the way, you will notice that, as you tab around the tones area, you will
land on an actions button. You can use this button to act on the currently
selected ringtone, such as playing it.

To delete a ringtone, you must place focus on the particular ringtone you
wish to remove from your device, and press the delete key. Neither the
Application button nore the Jaws right-mouse click will work, at this time.
Even the Actions button will not offer a delete choice. The only way to
remove the ringtone, at the time of this writing is to either press the
Delete key on the keyboard, or press the right mouse button on your mouse
and/or touch pad.

Okay, I'm exhausted so I'm going to sign off for now.

Good Luck and Happy Ring Toning. (smile)

Mark

Wow, Chris!

Thank you so much.

I will take a look, immediately.

Clearly, your research skills are superior to my own as I spent over 2 hours on
this, yesterday and wound up at a dead-end.

As I said, I will check into Crackle; and hopefully, there, I will find,
"Fantasy Island."

I am assuming that if a channel is offered through Apple, it will have some
kind of VoiceOver accessibility.

I don't want to stray too far off-topic but I am dismayed that with all of this
technology, there is not a service that will allow one to truly customize the
streaming experience.

For example, I am currently subscribed to YouTube TV. While I am relatively
happy with the service, I am paying for about 30 or so channels which I will
never watch while there are several channels that I want that are not offered
on YouTube TV.

People talk about going cordless but until we, as consumers, can select only
the channels we want in a single subscription package, the cordless experience
will never be my first option.

Okay, stepping down off of my proverbial soapbox, now (smile).

Now other than that, I do not know nothing about Crackle or its accessibility.
You might also be able to find it in the ios app store, I do not know.

Hello All,

I am prepared to sign up for a CBS All Access streaming subscription for use
with my Apple devices. However, I seem to be encountering a strange
inconsistency that I do not understand.

I want to sign up for the service because I was lead to believe that the 1970s

However, when I search for the show on one device, I see that it is, in fact,
offered, however, when I search on another device, the show is nowhere to be
found.

So, to those of you who are subscribed to CBS All Access:

1.
Is the show available for steaming on any of your Apple devices?

2.
Is there a customer service telephone number one can call in order to confirm
what shows are currently available on CBS All Access? Again, I have downloaded
the app on several devices but ...

3.
Just so you know: QUOTE: Fantasy Island is an American fantasy drama
television series created by Gene Levitt. It aired on the ABC television
network from 1977 to 1984. The series starred Ricardo Montalbán as the
mysterious Mr. Roarke. END QUOTE.

You see, I do not want to sign up for the service is the series is not, in
fact, available for streaming.

4.
One more thing, if the show is not available on CBS All Access, does anyone
know from which, if any, streaming service it may be streamed? I have searched
and searched and, for whatever reason, it is nowhere to be found except for the
references to CBS All Access as it was initially distributed by Columbia
broadcasting.

Mark

2020-10-12 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hi Mark,

After doing some Googling, it looks like Fantasy Island is on Crackle. It also
looks like Crackle is on Apple TV.

Now other than that, I do not know nothing about Crackle or its accessibility.
You might also be able to find it in the ios app store, I do not know.
Hopefully this is a good start to you finding what you are looking for!

Yeah under settings one of the first couple of options is to finish those setup
options.

If you select each one and say setup later in settings,
They go away.

We get these issues here in NZ as we don’t have a lot of the apple pay / wallet
related stuff and that goes away with the setup later in settings option.

Terry for the face to change,
Someone would have had to have changed it,

Either through the watch app on your phone or on the watch itself.

If you press down on to the screen of the wwatch you will get the different

Hello everyone,

It seems as though my watch face has changed. I think I am stating this
correctly. I am still in the process of learning how my apple watch works.

But a couple of days ago I noticed things had changed. I didn't know if
part of this was due to the update, or not. Now on the screen it shows
my position on earth, the position of the sun, a different time zone,
the date, and a couple different other things. Before it just showed the
time, my rings, and a couple other things. I think it was something to
do with the weather.

Anyway, why did this change?

And how do I fix it?

What other options are available?

Any help is much appreciated. I understand my phone quite well. This
watch still manages to surprise me at times. But then again, I haven't
had it all that long, either.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: A Question for iOS / iPad OS CBS All Access Subscribers

2020-10-12 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Christopher,

You ask an interesting question.

While I would never pass up an opportunity to enjoy audio described content,
that feature is not required for my current endeavor.

I would be able to enjoy the series, with or without audio description.

Thank you for the follow-up.

Mark

I have a question. Mark asked about Fantasy Island but didn't ask about it
being video described. It looks like Jim said he didn't find it on any lists of
video described movies. So does Mark care if it's video described or not?

I'm not sure about a support number for CBS All Access, but they do have an
email address for customer support. I was exchanging emails with them since I
couldn't use the email address I thought I'd already used to sign up for CBS
All Access, but we got this sorted out just about the same time I decided to
pass on signing up for CBS All Access, so I'm not currently a subscriber. I can
look for this email address if you want me to, but I assume I found it on their
contacts page.

They want me to set up apple pay I believe and I don't want to do that. I just
give them the credit card for any purchases I make.

2020-10-12 Thread Shirley Baker
Thank you. They already have my credit card on file with the latest update. In
fact, when I get a free app or paid, they just have me to use touch ID. They
want me to set up the other code Andy mentioned and I tried that once but
whenever I typed it in later, they said it wasn't right so I gave up on that.

It may simply need you to confirm your credit card information, if you put one
in.
If not, it is fine to ignore it.

video described movies.

I'd like to hear the answer to that but I'm not calling Apple Vis. I have a

I think if you start to go through the steps and end up choosing maybe later,

But yes, check with Apple Accessibility.

Hello Jim,

Quite to the contrary, you have been most helpful. At least I know that the

And the search for one of my favorite television series of all times, goes on

Hello Mark, Fantasy Island is definitely not listed on CBS All Access on any of
my devices.
I went to the master list of Audio Described programs on the ACB Audio
description page, which contains 7200 programs.
Here are the only two entries pertaining to Fantasy Island.
• Blumhouse's Fantasy Island
is on
DVD,
PRIME-VIDEO,
SPECTRUM-ACCESS
• Blumhouse's Fantasy Island: Unrated Edition is on ITUNES, SPECTRUM-ACCESS

Sorry I could not be of more assistance.

A Question for iOS / iPad OS CBS All Access Subscribers

2020-10-12 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

I am prepared to sign up for a CBS All Access streaming subscription for use
with my Apple devices. However, I seem to be encountering a strange
inconsistency that I do not understand.

I want to sign up for the service because I was lead to believe that the
1970s television series, Fantasy Island, is on offer.

However, when I search for the show on one device, I see that it is, in
fact, offered, however, when I search on another device, the show is nowhere
to be found.

So, to those of you who are subscribed to CBS All Access:

1.
Is the show available for steaming on any of your Apple devices?

2.
Is there a customer service telephone number one can call in order to
confirm what shows are currently available on CBS All Access? Again, I have
downloaded the app on several devices but ...

I have
searched and searched and, for whatever reason, it is nowhere to be found
except for the references to CBS All Access as it was initially distributed
by Columbia broadcasting.

Mark

Thanks. Unfortunately, I think it goes beyond that. This is puzzling.

RE: Watch face has changed

2020-10-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There are usually several watch faces setup by default and you can select
between them by swiping left or right with 2 fingers. Most likely you did a
2-finger swipe left or right and changed to a different watch face, try the
same gesture again until you find the one you want.

RE: Countdown timer wanted

2020-10-12 Thread Richard Turner
Chronoplan will do what you want. It doesn't announce the time, but plays a
tone and you can set it for as little as a few seconds and set the number of
intervals and to have it keep reminding you.
The alarm sound only lasts a few seconds then just continues counting down to
the next 30 seconds or whatever you choose.
You can use up to 4 timers for free, so you can see if the unlocked version has
that ability.
I paid the $2.99 sometime ago.

This is a helpful thread, as I was about to post my own timer question. I want
to start a couple different exercise programs, both of which say, to do a
particular exercise for 30 or 60 seconds, then move to the next for another
30-60 seconds. The idea is to do as many repetitions as I can in a short time,
then do the next set of repetitions. Would one of the aforementioned apps
essentially announce the time every 30 seconds? I'm not sure how else to
monitor the time without just counting, which could be tricky if I'm not in the
same rhythm with my exercises. My only other thought is to touch the clock on
the iPhone, which will announc the time each time it changes, but that's a full
60 seconds, not the 30 seconds counter.

Re: Countdown timer wanted

2020-10-12 Thread dean martineau
Also, you might want to look for exercise timer, Orr IntervalTimer, because
some of those might give you more control, and might even give you a 10 second
break between your repetitions if you want one.

Timer plus lets you create a timer for a particular interval, then said how
often he wanted to repeat, so as long as the interval you’re using is the same
each time, you could have the timeeor repeat as often as you want to.

RE: Countdown timer wanted

2020-10-12 Thread R Van Lant

I’m using timer plus, it seems to do what I want.

Re: Should I be worried about my iPhone's connection

2020-10-12 Thread Barbara Stahl
Try turning off your phone waiting a couple minutes and turning it back on
again. That can sometimes resolve weird issues that crop up. For instance, a
few days ago, my phone kept having a weird glitch where in the middle of
scrolling an app or webpage the phone would randumly have the screen curten
turn off then back on again and I would lose my place on the page.
I turned the phone off then back on again, and the problem disappeared.
Try this, it might just work to fix your problem too.

Betreff: My iPhone doesn’t always lock when I press the sleep button

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed that since upgrading to iOS 14 my iPhone doesn’t always go to
sleep when I press the sleep button. Has anyone else seen this behavior?
