Re: Speaking numbers as digits

The only problem with the Ham calls idea is what if it uses a regular word.
The pronunciation dictionary could be used to fix the way it speaks specific
Ham calls.

Re: Accessible food diary

2021-03-22 Thread Wayne Merritt
I've been using My Fitness Pal. The app is free but there is a priemium
subscription, for I think $40 US. I'm able to use it fine for free. There is a
Diary tab and an Add Entry tab. It is pretty easy to use, though I haven't
explored beyond entering the foods I eat.

Kind regards,

Since the person is low-vision, he should be able to see it. If he can’t see

The newer ones might have but be carefull with hat one,

Mine is a few years old now and can't be written to, just read from.

Another option if you had the adapters
Would be to use the USB / lightening adapter Richard speaks of,
And then use a USB to micro SD or sd card adapter to copy your data on to.

You will need an adapter that takes SD cards.
I believe apple sells one. I have the one that works with USB memory
sticks.
It has a lightning cable that is about 3 inches long that you plug into your
phone, and there is a block on the other end that has a lightning charging
port and the SD card port, of course the one I have has the USB port.

Perhaps search the Apple Store for SD card adapter.
Or the Lightning Camera adapter, but make sure it is for SD cards and not
USB drives.
You will have to have your phone charging with the charging port on the
adapter because iPhones do not have enough power to run the card reader.

Caller ID Related Question for Verizon Fios Subscribers

2021-03-22 Thread Robin Frost

Hi Everybody,

I hope this finds all happy and well.

I myself am an Xfinity Voice subscriber for my home phone line. And one
of the neat features they had was an Xfinity Connect app for iPhone
through which you could access a log of prior calls in and outgoing as
well as push notifications for caller ID in real time. They're also just
rolling out a feature whereby a caller name will be preceded by a [v] to
indicate that the number is verified to be from the one calling.

This was very helpful since so many talking caller ID units have been
discontinued or don't allow you to review things after the fact. Sadly
Xfinity is discontinuing the app that facilitates this feature for the
blind. As such out of curiosity I was wondering if Verizon FIOS offered
anything such as this feature for their voice customers.

If you are an xfinity customer who finds this feature valuable please
join me in letting them know as they may not have realized how necessary
this is for blind people especially when call spoofing and spam calls
are so prevalent.

Take good care.

Robin

RE: Accessible food diary

2021-03-22 Thread Carolyn
When I went to Weight Watchers, I had to keep a diary. I did not have a
computer, so took down in Braille everyh, single morsel I ate, then typed it,
in case my instructor needed to review my diary. It worked fine for me.

Hello,

I’m sifting through various food diary apps. Some are not accessible and
others are just cumbersom.

Can anyone suggest a simple app for tracking food and weight loss.

Thanks,

Kim

Re: No Apple Event this month? We might see new products in April instead - CNET

2021-03-22 Thread Richard Turner
Apple tends to give a week to 10 days notice for their official events, or at
least that is what it seems to me happens.
So, I'd look for an event between now and the WWDC in June. Now isn't that
helpful.

It should be pretty easy to figure out.
Since the person is low-vision, he should be able to see it. If he can’t see
it , then perhaps he is a candidate for using VoiceOver on the watch.

There is a watch face available, that will display the time in very large
digits.
This should be much more effective than increasing the size of regular text on
the watch face.

There is an Always ON setting.
I think he can enable that through the settings on the watch.
He could hold in the crown and ask Siri to open settings and then navigate

If I find more info I’ll pass it along.

Subject: A question for a friend about his new 6S Apple watch

Hi all,

I have a friend with very low vision who recently purchased his first Apple 6S
watch.

I wonder if what he is wanting is even possible with this watch.

He wants the watch to display the time in large numbers at all times unless he
presses the crown and issues instructions to do something else.

He often accidentally touches the screen or gets the screen to close to objects
and the time display is gone when he just wanted to visually check out the time.

I have never used an Apple watch so I hope I have given a clear enough
description to explain his needs.

He just wants the watch to always display the time unless he presses the crown
to use other features.

Many thanks for any assistance,

You will need an adapter that takes SD cards.
I believe apple sells one. I have the one that works with USB memory sticks.
It has a lightning cable that is about 3 inches long that you plug into your
phone, and there is a block on the other end that has a lightning charging port
and the SD card port, of course the one I have has the USB port.
Perhaps search the Apple Store for SD card adapter.
Or the Lightning Camera adapter, but make sure it is for SD cards and not USB
drives.
You will have to have your phone charging with the charging port on the adapter
because iPhones do not have enough power to run the card reader.

You will have to have your phone charging with the charging port on the adapter
because iPhones do not have enough power to run the card reader.

I’m sifting through various food diary apps. Some are not accessible and

Can anyone suggest a simple app for tracking food and weight loss.

Thanks,

RE: A question for a friend about his new 6S Apple watch

Brad,

Any name for this watch face?

I can’t see it there as a default,
But there are the ones you can download to your watch,

I’m just wondering what the face is?

You can follow the tournament for free with the TuneIn Radio app. You don't
need the pro version, if it's even still available, or a premium subscription.
Just look for the Westwond1 feeds. You can listen to individual games or their
Mix stream which features certain games but also jumps around to the close

Just tell Alexa to "open Westwood1 Sports" and you can listen to the Mix or

RE: Putting A File Onto An Sd Card From Files

2021-03-22 Thread Richard Turner

A question for a friend about his new 6S Apple watch

2021-03-22 Thread bentleyj1952
Hi all,

I have a friend with very low vision who recently purchased his first Apple

I wonder if what he is wanting is even possible with this watch.

He often accidentally touches the screen or gets the screen to close to
objects and the time display is gone when he just wanted to visually check
out the time.

I have never used an Apple watch so I hope I have given a clear enough
description to explain his needs.

He just wants the watch to always display the time unless he presses the
crown to use other features.

Many thanks for any assistance,

Hi.

In Tunein, the streams to use are Westwood 1 Sports A, Westwood 1 Sports B, and
so on through Sports E. Sports A is the mixed one, going from game to game.

That's it from me.

Have a blessed day and don't work too hard.

Re: March madness

2021-03-22 Thread Duane Steele
Hello Lynda,

To connect to March Madness on the SiriusXM APP, just open the APP and go to
Sports. Double-tap on Sports and you should have no trouble finding the
Basketball channels. Frankly, I think TuneIn's a bit easier to use. But it's
not necessary to install it just for these games when Sirius will do the same
thing. Hope this helps.

March madness

2021-03-22 Thread Lynda Ingraham
Hi, I have the SiriusXM app. But I have not been able to find any of the March
madness games. Do I need to get tune in radio Pro to follow along? I know I’m
late to the game, but I would like to see the rest of the tournament.

Thank you.

Lynda
