Re: AppleTv and Voiceover

2021-05-11 Thread Richard Turner
Make sure volume is selected under VoiceOver Rotor.
Turn the rotor to volume and flick up or down to adjust the VoiceOver volume.
Are you also using Audio Description?
That is under The main accessibility settings.
You cannot control that volume independant of the movie or TV show.

You can also select Audio ducking in the VoiceOver rotor settings so that any
audio playing when VoiceOver speaks, the volume is lowered to try to make it
easier to hear VoiceOver.

RE: Getting VO Back in iPhone When Connected to Bose Speaker?

2021-05-11 Thread Richard Turner
Try Malcolm's recommendation for someone earlier.
Open Bluetooth settings, with your speaker not connected.
Find the Bose speaker and flick up to More and double tap.
See if there is a setting for Speaker type or device type.
Double tap on that and select speaker if it is an option rather than headphones
etc.
Then, the audio should go through the speaker, leaving VO on the phone.

The person for whom this worked was using Belkin Bluetooth speakers.

Subject: Getting VO Back in iPhone When Connected to Bose Speaker?

Hi, Guys.
I'm using an iPhone 8 with the latest IOS. Since updating, it seems that VO
automatically chooses to come through the Bluetooth speaker (Bose Microlink, I
think it's called) when it's connected. I can't seem to find an option to route
the audio so that VO's speech comes through my iPhone and the audio, e.g.,
VoiceDream stuff, like an MP3 book, comes through the speaker. The Route Audio
has disappeared from the rotor, and there's nothing under the Audio section in
the VO section of Accessibility.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a solution?

Thanks,
Dani

(Bose Microlink, I think it's called) when it's connected. I can't
seem to find an option to route the audio so that VO's speech comes
through my iPhone and the audio, e.g., VoiceDream stuff, like an MP3
book, comes through the speaker. The Route Audio has disappeared from
the rotor, and there's nothing under the Audio section in the VO
section of Accessibility.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a solution?

Thanks,
Dani

Re: Speaking Rate in VoiceOver

Sometimes people with some usable vision want to have some but not all things
spoken. In that case, speak screen and speak selection can be very useful.

I believe you can press the somewhat depressed button, the top left

Re: An accessible Bible IPhone APP

2021-05-11 Thread Duane Steele
I wish to thank all of you who responded to a Pastor's inquiry about Bible
APPS. I had tried YouVersion some time ago with little success. I may need some
tutorial help. My dilemma continues to be that I like Bible Gateway's selection
of reference material, but can't figure out exactly how to copy and paste text
into e-bulletins for my church services, etc. If YouVersion will meet my needs,
I'll gladly pay for whatever is the best version of the APP. Again, thanks for
the help, and I’ll welcome suggestions about exactly how to get started using
YouVersion.

RE: a real mystery with Bluetooth and voiceover

2021-05-11 Thread Alan Lemly
I personally prefer Voiceover to come through a connected Bluetooth speaker. I
have a Bose Mini Soundlink II speaker that Voiceover does not play through when
connected and if I turn Voiceover off and back on while the speaker is
connected, Voiceover then starts coming through the speaker. It’s a good
workaround for anyone wanting this result.

In my experience some Bluetooth speakers play both Voiceover and media through
the external device and some don’t.

One thing you could try is this.

With all devices disconnected, go into Settings and Bluetooth.

Place focus on the device you would like to change and flick up to More Info.

Double-tap this.

Now on some devices you have a Device Type button. If available double tap
this.

Now you can change the device type which alters whether both media and
Voiceover come through the speaker or not.

Some of my speakers were detected as headphones so Voiceover came through the
speaker too.

Changing the device type resolved this.

Worth trying this to see if your results change too.

I have about six Bluetooth speakers here and they behave differently.

So everybody, I somehow am able to have voiceover remain on my phone and play
audio content on 2 of my Bluetooth speakers. The third one still wants to pick
up the voiceover as well as the audio.

They are literally the same speaker except the one that is misbehaving isnext

RE: a real mystery with Bluetooth and voiceover

2021-05-11 Thread Richard Turner
What happens if you unpair the one with Jaws does it then allow the VoiceOver
to stay on your phone?

My experience is that there is no setting you can adjust for this to work.
Either the speaker does it or it doesn't.
Were the speakers purchased at the same time, hence likely the same firmware?

IN my limited experience, if a speaker uses Airplay, the Voice stays on the
phone, always.
If it uses Bluetooth, then it is completely up to the speaker manufacturer.

If all else fails, see if you can find a support number for Belkin.

Hello Listers,

This may sound strange coming from a retired Parish Pastor. But I need a Bible

with it. Does anyone on this list have any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Removing otterbox case

2021-05-11 Thread Paul JOrdan
Hi all. I have an Iphone 7 with the type of otterbox case that covers the
sides and back of the phone. Since my fingerprint doesn't seem to work even
after re-setting it, someone suggested I take the case off and clean
thoroughly around the home button. However, I'm having difficulty getting
the case off. I can loosen the top half of the case but I can't get the
lower half of the case off. Is there some trick I'm missing? It's annoying
to have to enter my 6 digit passcode each time I want to open my phone, so
any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

God bless!

Re: An accessible Bible IPhone APP

2021-05-11 Thread Michael McKay
Hello! Pastor Duane, and List.

I caught your email Pastor Duane and thought I would let you know that the
Bible app are use mainly is the YouVersion Bible app. It has quite a few
versions including the Douay Rheims Catholic version King James version and
others.

You can download it into your iPhone or I devices through the App Store, or if
you are using any phone other than the iPhone you can download it through the
Google store. Just type you version Bible app into the search parameters.

I trust this helps, And hope that you will have the enjoyment of it. God‘s word
is wonderful.

Blessings!

BIG WARNING alert! DO certainly NOT update whatsapp

2021-05-11 Thread davycuppens
Hi folks

If you are using whatsapp mostly in the way to post audio messages, please
do not updates the app v 2.21.90.

If you do so, you get an extra PTT button and moreover, focus will be jumpy
and it is extremely difficult to scroll between a bunch of messages.

When listening to your audio messages your iphone will make a constant
clicking noice as if you open apps or push the home button or opening an
app. It is the most frustrating update ever since the existance of whatsapp!

RE: Screen Shot of an App Display

2021-05-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You just press and release volume up and the side button simultaneously and
there uis no chance for a 9 1 1 call to be initiated.
Here is what a Google search for "How to take a screenshot on the iPhone 11"
showed:
Take a screenshot on your iPhone
Press the Side Button and the Volume Up button at the same time.
Quickly release both buttons.
After you take a screenshot, a thumbnail temporarily appears in the lower-left
corner of your screen. Tap the thumbnail to open it or swipe left to dismiss it.

Of course this applies to any iPhone without home button and I think also to
the iPhone 8 with a virtual home button.
If you don't get to the thumbnail near the bottom left of the screen before it
disappears simply open the Photos app, double tap the albums tab in the bottom
row, then turn the rotor to headings and swipe down until you get to "Media
Types".
Now swipe right until you get to Screenshots" or simply ask SIRI to "Show me my
screenshots".
Once you are in the screenshots album, double tap on the one you want and share
as you do with any photo.

Best regards,
Sieghard

It depends n the phone.
If you have a home button, you press and hold both the home button and the
power/side button at the same time.
Then, there should be a button on the screen to double tap on to open the
screen shot where you can share it in all the usual ways.

On the phones with no home buttons, it might be holding the side switch and up
volume but that could also end up calling 911. So, if it is a no home button
phone, someone else may know or call Apple.

Re: TeleMed.

2021-05-11 Thread Wayne Merritt
Jenny,
I think what you mean is Telemed. As others have said, some offices
use specific apps and others you have to sign into a specific page. My
primary doctor sends people a text message where they follow a link
and then sign-in. The times I have tried this I often get frustrated
because there is a time limit or it is not as accessible to me. I keep
requesting that they simply call me in place of the telemed method. I
think my primary doctor has learned my preference, but the front
office staff keep wanting to go the telemed method, which doesn't
work. Oh well.

Be well,
Wayne Merritt

Hi Jenny,

How are you doing? Yes, it would be an app you would put on your iPhone. I have
used something called virtual visits and that is very accessible. I do think it
depends on what your provider uses. I have not had experience with Tele med,
but I would hope it would be accessible to you.

Re: An accessible Bible IPhone APP

2021-05-11 Thread William Outman
I use the YouVersion Bible app for study and it is pretty accessible. As for
copying and saving text I presume the normal text selection and copying/sharing
methods work, but I find this a real challenge in the iPhone setting in
general.
YouVersion has the ability to down load versions for off line use, but I’ve
never done that.
The app shows up as Bible on your home screen. There are at least 60 English
versions and numerous versions in other languages. I access a couple in English
as well as in Spanish and French, which are readable even though VoiceOver has
a hard time with the pronunciation. I’m not fluent in the other languages but
it’s a nice learning tool to use occasionally.

Re: An accessible Bible IPhone APP

2021-05-11 Thread Bobby Druesedow
The Youversion Bible App does allow you to copy verses and passages from
different chapters and books. It takes some exploration of the screen to find
the coppy option after you select what you want, but it does work At least it
works for now. they occasionally make changes that messes things up, but it
usually gets fixed.

Re: TeleMed.

2021-05-11 Thread William Outman
I can’t say for sure, but did you check the app store to see if there is an app
by that name. You might have to set up an account, which may require some sort
of security code or password. I’m sure doctor’s offices like to have something
more secure than Zoom, Teams or the other video conference services that exist.
Having not used it I can’t tell you if it is accessible.
Now for me I usually go in person for my physician, but I have a psychologist I
just talk to by phone, but that’s easier than what you are talking about.
Truthfully your neurologist’s office may just not know about accessibility,
since telemedicine is a relatively new trend, and this is an issue the
providers of these services may not have fully thought about either.

RE: TeleMed.

2021-05-11 Thread Richard Turner
It sounds like their version of Zoom for medical appointments.
To keep it secure, there is likely a code you have to type in that they provide
along with your name and birthdate no doubt.

I do not know if it is an app, but you can search for it in the app store and
see.

My doctor's office uses Zoom through My Chart, which works with lots of
different medical facilities.

The far easiest way, is to double tap on the number so it calls her.
You can hang up or let it go through and then hang up.
But from the phone app, Recent calls screen, touch her number and flick up to
More Info and double tap and flick right until you find add to contacts, and
you will have the choice of creating a new one or adding to an existing contact.

RE: Speaking Rate in VoiceOver

2021-05-11 Thread Richard Turner
I was thinking that may have gotten in your way, but obviously not.

Those settings are primarily for people who do not want VoiceOVer on all the
time, but want to be able to have certain things read out loud. If someone has
low vision and can manage the short things, but when it comes to longer emails,
or web sites, speak screen allows them to swipe down with two fingers from the
Status Bar and it will read aloud. Some people use this for Apple Books
because once you get it started reading, you can lock the phone and it
continues reading. You cannot lock your phone while VoiceOver is reading an
Apple book.

The speak highlights again is for someone not wanting to use VoiceOver all the
time, but they can highlight text and there is a speak button they can press
and have it read out to them.

Then there is the typing feedback setting. Even if those others are off, if
the typing feedback is on for characters or words, it will speak those as they
are typed with or without VoiceOver being on.

The speaking rate here is supposed to just control the speech rate for these
functions and should not affect VoiceOver.

You may also want to go into the VoiceOver settings and change the default
speech rate and see if that helps at all.
I’ve never heard of the rotor being on speaking rate and nothing happening.

Yes,

Touch the top of the phone in the status bar and if you don’t land on it, flick
left.

It is always in the upper left corner of the status bar.

The status bar is usually from left to right:

Cellular, Wi-Fi, Clock, then depending on your settings, you may find,
Orientation Locked, Location Tracking on, And possibly info about any Bluetooth
devices connected, then in the top right will be the battery percentage.

I used Apple maps. Someone on another list said that maybe I should have
spelled Beechtree, since she never started giving us directions to 2911
Beechtree Drive, Sanford, NC.

I found Apple Maps offers preferable directions on highway exits and rapid
transit entrances that Google Maps does not recognize. Also, Apple Maps can
send updated notifications or text messages on an estimated time of arrival to
anyone in the user’s contacts. Google Maps just sends a notification or e-mail
once without updated timeframes.

Richard, right now, under the Spoken Content heading, I have
Both Speak Selection and speak Screen Off.
I do not understand the purpose of that Spoken Content section.

RE: adding a contact

Would she be a new contact because of her message or an existing contact? I

Hello, all:
I received a message from a friend with her specific phone number. Please give
me step by step instructions as to how to add her name and phone number to my
contacts list. I know this has been discussed before, but now it's happening
to me. Thanks in advance.
