2021-12-05 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,

I did manage to pull off the phone to phone transfer from an iPhone 7 running
iOS 14X to an iPhone 13 running 15X and all seems to be going just fine.
Thanks for all the help.
Best,
Kevin

2021-12-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Kelly,

Please post a support article explaining your comment: "the extra iCloud
temporary storage to hold all the data on his phone in iCloud, he needs iOS
15". Following my signature, I'm posting an Apple Support article discussing
the iPhone Quick Start phone to phone transfer process and it mentions nothing
about iOS 15 and iCloud storage. It can be found at the following link:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210216

Alan Lemly

Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Set up your new iOS device automatically using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Set up your new device with Quick Start

Quick Start occupies both devices, so make sure that you choose a time when you
won't need to use your current device for several minutes.

A new iPhone showing the Quick Start screen. The instructions ask you to put
your old device near your new one.

Turn on your new device and place it near your current device.
A screen appears on your current device that offers the option of using
your Apple ID to set up your new device. Make sure that it's the Apple ID that
you want to use, then tap Continue. If you don't see the option to continue on
your current device, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on.
Wait for an animation to appear on your new device. Hold your current
device over the new device, then center the animation in the viewfinder.
Wait for a message that says Finish on New [Device]. If you can't use your
current device's camera, tap Authenticate Manually, then follow the onscreen
steps.
When asked, enter your current device's passcode on your new device. Then
follow the instructions to set up Face ID or Touch ID on your new device.
When you see the Transfer Data from [Device] screen, tap Continue to begin
transferring your data from your previous device to your new device. Or you can
tap Other Options to transfer apps, data, and settings from your most recent
iCloud backup or transfer from a backup on your computer.

Keep your devices near each other and plugged in to power until the data
migration process is complete. Transfer times can vary based on factors such as
network conditions and the amount of data being transferred.
Still need help?

Learn what to do if you can't activate your iPhone.
If you need more help, contact Apple Support.

Possibly. But if he wants the extra iCloud temporary storage to hold all the
data on his phone in iCloud, he needs iOS 15.

Hi Simon,

Well, when I was setting up my new iPhone 13 Mini running iOS 15 and attempted
a phone to phone transfer from my SE 2020 running iOS 15.02, the transfer
failed four times until I set up the 13 Mini as a new device and upgraded it to
a later version of iOS than was running on the SE.

Allan,

And kellie,

So long as both phones have IOS versions later than 11

Then the wireless transferr will work between the devices,

As for the older device,

It should not matter if the IOS Versions are different

The transfer can actually intergrate the update of the IOS version on the new
dvice if the older phone has a newer OS version.

So it shouldn’t be an issue for you with the transfer.

Good luck.

so if the iPhone 7 is not currently running 15, you will need to

by text message to download the apps from the app store.

I upgraded to an iPhone 13 Mini in November from a 7. I also backed
up the 7 on my computer and used Apple’s new feature in iOS 15 that
backs up the entire contents of your phone to iCloud for a few weeks
when upgrading to a new phone. This means I was actually triple
backed up: regular iCloud, temporary iCloud for phone upgrades, and a
computer backup if iCloud is unavailable. Fortunately, things went
smoothly.

Enjoy your phone. I am glad I upgraded for the better battery
management and Face ID.

RE: battery charging cases

2021-12-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Unless you want to have the phone in a battery case all the time I would
recommend a decent size external battery. If you only want to use it
occasionally this will be a better option because you can get one which can
charge your iPhone several times and you can use it to charge most anything
else which plugs into a USB port like a headset, Apple Watch, an external
speaker etc.

Hello, all:
I have an IPhone se 2020. What kind of battery recharging case would you
recommend that could be used during a power outage since wireless charging
wouldn’t work under those conditions? Thanks in advance.

The solution if it is a problem is to assign screen curtain to a different

Double-tap with 3 fingers turns off Speech, not VoiceOver. (This matters to a
Braille user, and in the event that you haven't got Screen Curtain on when
others will be able to see your screen but you won't have access to it unless
using Braille. I have often wondered why these two gestures are so akin to each

RE: Screen curtin and VoiceOver

2021-12-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Kelly,

I know you have owned iPhones for some time, but you must not be doing the
3-finger triple tap which turns screen curtain on or off precisely enough. I
assume when you say Voiceover gets turned off that it gets muted which happens
after a 3-finger double tap. If you do two 3-finger taps and fail to do the
third rather quickly you will mute Voiceover instead. Another 3-finger double
tap will unmute it again and there are times when I want to turn screen curtain
on or off and this also happens to me because maybe I don't do the gesture
smartly enough. In this case I unmute Voiceover again and try the triple tap
again.

I believe you can disable calling 911 with the side button, once again, you
have to press it 5 times quickly whereas turning Voiceover on/off is a triple
press.

Re: Need advice on how to migrate data from old iPhone 7 to new iPhone 13. Anything I should know?

2021-12-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Kelly,

I don't think both iPhones must be running iOS 15 in order to do a wireless
phone to phone transfer. The source iPhone must be running a version of iOS
that supports this transfer and it must not be running a newer version of iOS
than the target iPhone. Other than that, I don't believe there are any
restrictions.

You are missing the wireless iPhone to iPhone transfer. I had 100 gigs
transfer in less than an hour. Both phones need to be running iOS 15
so if the iPhone 7 is not currently running 15, you will need to
upgrade. At the end of the process, you will need to enter in your
Apple ID and password and verify your identity by entering a code sent
by text message to download the apps from the app store.

To turn voice over speech off is a three finger double tap. Screen curtain

Just do a three finger double tap to toggle speech off and on. You don't
have to hit the side button.

As for assigning another gesture, someone else will have to comment.

Re: Question about T-Mobile

2021-12-05 Thread Kelly Pierce
Part of T-Mobile’s problem is that the iPhone did not support
T-Mobile’s lower frequencies until recently. Lower frequencies offer
longer range and can easily penetrate buildings. All of the iPhones
from 2018 or later have band 71. These include the XS, XR, 11, 12 and
13 series as well as the SE 2020. These newer phones will likely have
a lot better reception outside big cities than the older phones.

I had T-Mobile before the company added many new cell phone
frequencies. I used to work near city hall and the Daley center in
downtown Chicago. In the blocks surrounding this busy place, reception
was horrible. It magically improved walking two blocks away, which is
meaningless if someone needs to place or receive a call in a
restricted government building.

Re: Need advice on how to migrate data from old iPhone 7 to new iPhone 13. Anything I should know?

2021-12-05 Thread Kelly Pierce
You are missing the wireless iPhone to iPhone transfer. I had 100 gigs
transfer in less than an hour. Both phones need to be running iOS 15
so if the iPhone 7 is not currently running 15, you will need to
upgrade. At the end of the process, you will need to enter in your
Apple ID and password and verify your identity by entering a code sent
by text message to download the apps from the app store.

Re: Power Bank recommendation for iPhone?

2021-12-05 Thread Kelly Pierce
I do not like carrying around heavy bricks when I do not need to. I
have bought a pocket sized charger that can charge an iPhone at least
once and possibly twice. It is the Poweradd Slim 2 Mobile Power Bank
Charger that has a capacity of 5000mAh. I bought one for $11.
Surprisingly, the USB-a to lightning cable that I keep with the
charger cost more. The charger comes with a carrying case and the
charging cables fit the case as well as the charger. With my tactical
pants with many pockets, it is a necessary addition to my mobile
digital lifestyle.

Hello, all:
I have an IPhone se 2020. What kind of battery recharging case would you
recommend that could be used during a power outage since wireless charging
wouldn't work under those conditions? Thanks in advance.

I have googled this, and follow the suggestions to restart my HomePod and to
sign in and out, or I should say out and in my iCloud on my HomePod using the
Home app. Originally, it was still playing stuff from my library, but I
couldn’t get it to play anything from Apple Music that wasn’t already in my
library. Now, it will play nothing. Not my library, not Apple Music. I can hand
off to it from my phone, but that’s a waste of time. These things used to work
fine. Now I might as will not even have them. Does anybody have any suggestions?

RE: Power Bank recommendation for iPhone?

2021-12-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can use Be My Eyes or Aira to ask what the LED lights indicate or if you
don't want to do that just charge them whenever or after you used it. They all
use Lithium batteries so charging them when they are only 20% depleted or 80%
depleted makes no difference and even if your battery is still 80% full and
you charge it overnight it's not going to hurt it.
You also develop a sense of how often you can charge your iPhone with whatever
battery you buy and most manufacturers also tell you how often you can charge
whatever model of phone you have. If you buy a 5000 MAH battery and you use it
when your iPhone is at around 30% or even 20% you can most likely charge most
iPhones twice before the battery is empty.
