RE: Apple TV without a physical screen?

2022-11-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You should be able to get an HDMI to Optical adapter. Which soundbar do you
have, is it a Sonos? If so it must be the older Playbar or the Playbase, those
were connected to the TV with an optical connection.

Yes, it would work because that is what receivers are made for just as HDMI
inputs on TV's are made for this.
Anyways, I have a feeling with the secondor third generation Apple TV 4K you
will be able to plug it straight into a Sonos Beam or Arc, but hopefully Gary
will report back once he has picked up his Beam and tried it.

RE: Apple TV without a physical screen?

2022-11-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, they do have good deals for those who are not yet invested in Sonos. I was
hoping to get the 20% off the new Sub Mini, but no such luck, the only deal I
saw here in Canada is a little over 10% off and then you have to buy it with a
set of Sonos One or Sonos SL speakers and I don't need them. Oh well, I think I
may have some older Sonos One first generation speakers and I could use the 15%
upgrade credit Sonos offers to buy a Sub Mini and then sell them since I
currently have more Sonos speakers than I really need or use.

Hello all,

Thanks for the feedback. I originally had the old Apple TV HD with its some
what quirky remote and decided to upgrade to the very latest 4K version which
arrived last week.

I  was so impressed with the new unit, both the well thought out remote and the
speed of the box, I  gather the new processor in this unit is some 30% faster
than the older 4K unit, that I decided to see if I could create a sound only
system.

I  intend to pick up a  Sonos beam  as there are some good deals this Black
Friday and will report back on what happens.

RE: Apple TV without a physical screen?

2022-11-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Given Apple has a 30-day return policy you could always try it if you don't get
a definite answer. My guess is that it would work. The only Sonos soundbars
with an HDMI input are the Arc and the Beam, the smaller/less expensive Ray
does not have an HDMI input.
Do you already have another Apple TV with a TV connected and a Sonos setup
elsewhere in the house? If so you could always whatever you want to listen to
there and group any Sonos speaker you want even if it were just a single Sonos
SL which I believe would be the cheapest Sonos speaker you can buy.
If my TV wasn't mounted inside a cabinet with very little clearance which makes
it more difficult to unplug things and plug them back in I'd try it because we
have a Sonos Arc, but our Apple TV is connected by HDMI to the TV and then the
Sonos Arc is connected also by HDMI to the eARC port of our LG Tv. I am most
likely going to upgrade to the recently released Apple TV 4K as ours is if I
remember correctly the first Generation Apple TV 4K which was released in 2017
with the A10X processor, then they released the second Gen with the A12X
processor just last year and this year the third generation with the A15X CPU
which I understand is very noticeably faster and of course it comes with the
new remote. If I do I can try to connect it directly to the Arc before I put it
in place and hide all the cables behind our cabinet.

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the Apple TV will work if it is plugged directly into a
soundbar such as one of the Sonos devices rather than into a  tv and thence to
a soundbar?

I am trying to create a TV sound receiver for a small bedroom and don't want a

I am suspicious that the Apple TV box will complain because it can't see a
display device..

Thanks

Re: Apple TV without a physical screen?

2022-11-20 Thread 'Gary Robinson' via VIPhone

Hello all,

Thanks for the feedback. I originally had the old Apple TV HD with its
some what quirky remote and decided to upgrade to the very latest 4K
version which arrived last week.

I  was so impressed with the new unit, both the well thought out remote
and the speed of the box, I  gather the new processor in this unit is
some 30% faster than the older 4K unit, that I decided to see if I could
create a sound only system.

I  intend to pick up a  Sonos beam  as there are some good deals this
Black Friday and will report back on what happens.

Hello, to get around this issue, I bought this several years ago. You connect
an HDMI cable to it, and then to the Apple tv, and you send your audio out
through the RCA jacks. It's used for those times when tvs or gaming consoles
don’t have their own audio outputs, and you need to have them for some external
speakers. It's about a thirty dollar item:

RE: Apple TV without a physical screen?

2022-11-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi again,

So it would seem that you cannot plug an Apple TV directly into the HDMI port
of a Sonos Beam or Arc. Here is part of an article I found on iMore:

Can you use Sonos Beam with Apple TV?
Best Answer: Yes! While the Sonos Beam doesn't work directly with the Apple TV,
there is a workaround. Basically, you plug in the Apple TV to your TV via HDMI.
Then, plug your Sonos Beam into your TV through the HDMI-ARC port, ensuring
that HDMI-CEC is enabled (this allows devices to work better together).
If everything is working as it should, the audio from your Apple TV should go
to the TV, relaying it through the Sonos Beam. If your TV is older than five
years or doesn't have an HDMI-ARC connection, you need to use an optical audio
adapter included with the Beam.

Question: So I can't just plug in my Beam to the Apple TV itself?
Unfortunately not. The Sonos Beam must get plugged in through an HDMI-ARC
connection, which even the best Apple TV doesn't have, but most modern TVs do.
HDMI-ARC (Audio Return Channel) is a special signal unique to TVs and therefore
gets a different label than a typical HDMI port.

I forgot to check when this article was written, but another Google search
indicates that the Apple TV 4K 2nd Generation which was released in 2021 as
well as the newly released Apple TV 4K 3rd Gen do in fact have and support
HDMI-ARC as well as e-ARC (enhanced audio return channel). If this is so a 2nd
Gen or brand-new 3rd Gen Apple TV 4K may very well work if directly connected
to a Sonos Beam, Arc or Sonos Amp. Just make sure you have an HDMI cable which
is capable of this, the one which comes with your Sonos soundbar should be
fine.

Alternatively you can get these splitters/audio extractors where you connect
your Apple TV to the audio extractor and it then has most likely even analogue
outputs, but then you may need another adapter to go from the audio extractor
to your Beam or you could of course get a Sonos Five which has a 3.5mm audio
input or a Sonos Port which has both analogue RCA inputs (the old left and
right, red/white) as well as Coax digital inputs. However, then you have to
also connect powered speakers to the Sonos Port unless you in turn connect it
to an existing receiver or amplifier which has speakers connected.
What I am saying is that almost everything is possible, but it may not always
be practical.

Hi sieghard

Then please do report again and again to accessibility even if you had already
done so. Why? Because it is needed while this is a new public beta in which
problems were not addressed. Maybe it is better to report to accessibility
because our problems are more specific tot hem as tot he beta program but I
admit maybe I am wrong saying this?

Hi, are you seeing these bugs on your end?

1. As you’re swiping through emails on the native Mail app, Voiceover will read
the correct sender and subject line, but the message preview is completely
different from the actual email. The problem is inconsistent but presents
itself across multiple messages in the chosen inbox. The problem exists across
all email accounts being used. In fact, the inaccurate message summaries
sometimes pull from completely different email accounts.

2. If you tap Add contact when sending an email or text message, Voiceover
refuses to navigate by heading. True, you can use the search function as
opposed to navigating the length of your contacts, but navigating by headers is
useful when forgetting the exact spelling of an uncommon contact's name.
Voiceover simply continues to say "no headings."

3. Voiceover is jumping to the bottom of the screen when attempting to navigate
longer emails. You have to swipe down with three fingers to scroll further down
in the message and then back track to try to read the portions of the email
voiceover skipped.

I keep hoping the issues will be fixed with subsequent iOS 16 updates, but
alas, no luck so far. Before reporting to Apple, is anyone else experiencing
these glitches?

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

Best,

Joe

2022-11-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Just saying it has not yet been fixed in 16.2 public beta 3, but I assume there
will still be at least 2 or most likely 3 more public beta releases before 16.2
is released which is expected the week of December 12 so still lots of chances
for them to get it fixed. Anyways, for me it still works I would say 8 out of
10 times so I left the preview on because it is typically very apparent if the
wrong content is read in which case I can simply open the email to read it, but
in most cases it's still useful. I still use dictation all the time although it
makes lots of mistakes, but when everything is said and one I still find it
easier and quicker to use it even though I may have to correct some stuff.

refuses to navigate by heading.

Best,

Joe

RE: Can You Replicate These Bugs in iOS 16?

2022-11-20 Thread davycuppens

Hi Richard, as of iOS 16.2 Beta 3 this reading of incorrect text in email
preview is still present.

The first item is a known issue. Apple is aware of this and hopes to have it
resolved in the next release.

Like Alan, I don't do the other things you mention; but I've seen the heading
issue in other places at times.

If you have not, report these to accessibil...@apple.com

Hi Joe,

I and others are definitely replicating your first item regarding the native
Mail app's incorrect Voiceover preview of a message with focus. I'm not really
doing the other items you mentioned so cannot comment on them.

I've been meaning to report the Mail preview bug to Apple Accessibility so
thanks for the reminder.

RE: Any possibility of RIVO3 to come in near future?

2022-11-20 Thread Dennis Long
I'm wondering if Rivo is still in business. I've emailed them and I saw
someone else emailed them a few month ago and got no response. I also got no
response. I strongly recommend you look at the Hable one.

RE: Screen recognition

2022-11-20 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Hello,
Go into Settings, Accessibility and Voiceover.

>From here navigate to Voiceover Recognition and double tap.
Double tap here.

Make sure Screen Recognition is on.

Now swipe through this screen until you reach Apply to Apps.

Double tap here and Voiceover should say Apply to Apps heading.

If you swipe through this screen you should have a list of apps on your device.

You can double tap each app in the list to toggle Screen Recognition on/off for
each app.

Once you have made your selections double Back in the top left corner.

Hope this helps.

Can anyone tell me how to turn off screen recognition off for a specific app?
I’ve been round and round voiceover settings, and I can’t work it out.
