RE: Wi-Fi lossless headphones - sounds fantastic, but a little expensive

2023-04-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can buy wired headphones which cost that much and you can actually buy
dedicated Digital-to-Analogue headphone amplifiers which cost that much, but
with such a Wi-Fi headset which supports lossless audio (which no level of
Bluetooth does, not even Apples fancy over the ear headphones) you get the
convenience along with the quality and this is where Sonos of course comes in.
Of course you can get better Hi-Fi systems than let's say a stereo pair of
Sonos Five speakers with a wireless Sub which for 2-channel stereo music is
about as good as it gets for Sonos at a price tag of about $2,300 Canadian, but
actually for that price point Sonos doesn't rank so bad at all and you simply
can't compare it with a $20K or $30K system or even a $5K system made up of a
set of good satellites, a good powered Sub and a good power amp.
I look forward to what I assume will be Era 500 speakers which Sonos may
release later this year or next year. Since the Sonos Five has been around for
a while especially if you consider it's not much of an upgrade from the Play 5
Second Generation, I am quite sure an update speaker will be coming especially
since they just released the Era 100 which will replace the Sonos One and the
new Era 300 which really is meant primarily as a rear speaker in a surround
setup with a Sonos Arc sound bar and one or two of their Sonos Subs. It has the
drivers which fire sideways and up to generate a better Dolby Atmos experience
and it is indeed quite nice; we got our Era 300s a couple of weeks ago and now
that Apple Music Atmos is supported from within the Sonos app even their
spacial music sounds quite nice. I listened to the song "Lavender Haze" by
Taylor Swift the other day as well as the new remastered Pink Floyd album "Dark
Side of the Moon" and it's pretty impressive.

That’s insane of a price tag, but I guess you’re paying for the all in one
convenience. I’m into 2ch stereo and head-fi and believe you can get more for
your dollar in terms of sonics elsewhere.

Let's hope the fact Sonos announced they will enter at least one new category

their ecosystem and which won't break the bank quite to that extend. I would
totally spend $600 or $800 on a Sonos Headset, but I draw the line at $2,199
and since this is a Tech Radar article that means it is in US Dollars so
probably about $3,000 Canadian.

Voicedream Reader Skipping Paragraphs

2023-04-16 Thread Kelby Carlson
I am trying to read several documents in Reader with a Braille display. Reading
forward works fine. If I go backward, however, at some point Reader will
suddenly stop, and then skip ahead one or two paragraphs. This makes it
effectively impossible to pan backward through any document with a Braille
display. I have tried this on multiple documents and encounter the same issue.
I have also tested this on an Apex BT32 and a Focus 40 Blue 5th Generation with
the same result, so it is not a Braille display issue.

Has anybody else encountered this? I emailed support but haven't heard back.

New app to announce status of pedestrian signals

2023-04-16 Thread R Van Lant
All,
Thomas just did a review of a new IOS app call OKO ( on AppleVis that
announces the status of a pedestrian signal. I just tried it on my SE 202 and
it's really quite cool. I have a umber of audible signals here, but this will
be really handy when I'm at a street without them that doesn't have good
traffic flow to read.

Hello Marilyn,

Yes, I have noticed this minute-by-minute time enouncement, from time-to-time.

Also, if you leave VO focus on the status line clock, VO will continue to
announce the time, minute-by-minute. I think this is a useful feature, once
one learns how to use it.

RE: Is Anyone Using the Google Authenticator? or the Microsoft Authenticator?

2023-04-16 Thread M. Taylor
Hi Sieghard,

I was hoping that the iOS authenticator would simply prompt me to either allow
or not allow Twitter sign-in but, alas, it does not.

Scenario, On my PC, when I login to my Twitter account, it prompts me for a
verification code. Then I have to find the code from within the iOS password
app and type it into the PC web browser, manually. The thing is, the only code
that is valid is the one that appears from the moment you begin the log-in
sequence on the PC. Once a new code appears on the phone, it will not work in
the PC web browser.

I thought that when I wanted to login from the PC, I would get a prompt from my
iOS device to either allow or not allow the log-in.

Oh well.

By the way, it took me 15 tries to finally be fast enough to enter the Twitter
verification code on my PC.

Fortunately, I will not need to do this again, from that particular web browser
unless I logout of my Twitter account.

If you have to use a code, it is valid for 30 seconds although whenever you
open the app and tap on a particular site you set up, e.g. Dropbox, Amazon etc.
you may not have the full 30 seconds. Voiceover tells you how much you have
left so if it's only 10 seconds or so you can just wait until it renews and
then you have the full 30 seconds which is more than enough time to input a
6-digit code.
And as I said in my previous email, if you turn on passwordless sign in or
whatever it is called for your Microsoft 365 account then you don't even have
to bother with a code, it will just come up with a notification if you are
signingin and you just approve or deny the request, in some cases there might
be a 2-digit number displayed on the computer when you sign in and you have to
select that number from 3 options, but again, it's quite straight forward.

RE: Is Anyone Using the Google Authenticator? or the Microsoft Authenticator?

2023-04-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

I have used the microsoft authenticator. You must grab the code quickly and
input it in order for it to work.

RE: Is Anyone Using the Google Authenticator? or the Microsoft Authenticator?

2023-04-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I use Microsoft Authenticator for 2-factor authentication of my various
Microsoft accounts as well as for Dropbox, Amazon and I think one or two more.
It's perfectly accessible and I assume the Google Authenticator app is as well,
which one you should is very much your own decision and probably depends a bit
on whether you are more in the Google or Microsoft ecosystem. I have a Google
account, but 2-factor authentication is handled by the Google app so for me
Microsoft Authenticator makes more sense because I can use for passwordless
login to my Microsoft 365 accounts.

Hello All,

Is anyone using either the Google or Microsoft authenticator app? If so, is
either VO accessible? If you are using both, which do you prefer?

All replies greatly appreciated.
