Hello Keith,

I use a VoIP phone app called 3CX and when I first started using it a

was a perfect solution as all the numbers and buttons like Call were
read and I could use it.

I also have come across a few apps where a few screens with
information were displayed after installing the app and before you got
to a "Got It" or "I Agree" button. Unfortunately I can't remember the
last one where I couldn't read this text but with screen recognition
turned on I could.

It is not something which you most likely need a lot, but it is a good
tool to have available.

after rebooting the phone, do the 2 finger quadruple tap and you
should find it in the quick settings if you left it turned on in
VoiceOver Recognition.

Then it might show up in the settings ... this is not one of
Apple's better attempts at a feature.

First, Screen Recognition came in with iOS 14 though it was
seldom talked about until iOS 15.

To have it show up in Quick Settings, you have to first turn
it on under Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, VoiceOver
Recognition.

If it is not on there, it will not be in Quick Settings.

I tested this by turning it off under VoiceOver Recognition
and sure enough, it disappeared from Quick Settings.

When I turned it back on in VoiceOver Recognition, I had to
reboot the phone before it showed up again in quick Settings.
Not sure why, but that is what I did.

My recommendation is don’t have it in the rotor, but just in
quick settings.  There are other settings you may find it
better to have in Quick Settings instead of in the Rotor.

Once again to review, quick Settings is launched with a 2
finger quadruple tap. It functions like the rotor, but since
you have to be more intentional about bringing it up, you
won’t find yourself changing voice speaking rate when you
wanted to jump by headings, etc.

You can also enable Screen Recognition for specific apps once
you figure out it helps in that app by going into VoiceOver
Recognition, Screen Recognition and double tapping on apps,
and selecting the apps for which you want it to default to on.

Hi Richard

i'm also having this problem but before I reset all setting please could
you tell me what settings you had to reset.  Just got an iphone se2020
and have spent ages setting it up from new as old phone was completely
broken so couldn't copy my settings.  Plus having to get my watch

The problem is gone.

I first tried just resetting the dictionary thinking maybe that was
the issue.

No other setting seemed to be the problem so I decided to just reset
all settings and poof, all works as it should, only I have to go
through and fix all the settings that got cleared out.

But, I’ll take it.

Thanks for your patience with my notes on this issue.

email on external keyboard

2020-12-12 Thread 'Linda Gaitskell' via VIPhone

Hi

i'm trying to get used to an external keyboard with my iphone and was
wondering how once you have read an email if there is any way of getting
back to the main list of emails other than keep pressing the left arrow
to get to the previous message? is there a key stroke for the back button.

Thanks

When I press the Home button and ask Siri to send a message to
anyone, she says sorry there is a problem. Try later.  When I ask
Siri other things like the temperature or time or whatever there
is no issue.

This is different than what happens sometimes when a connection
cannot be made even though I have 2 out of 4 bars for cell and 3
out of 3 bars for my wifi.

I have turned Siri off and back on twice in Settings and rebooted
my phone.  Still the problem occurs.

I am using an iPhone 7 with IOS 13.5.1.

The only other thing I can think of is to try a soft reset but
can’t remember how that is done.  Or will this need a hard reset
through Settings?

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Once you have finished swimming just turn the digital crown

I frequently swim with my watchand never do anything to lock it before
I get into the water.  Once you enter the water with your watch on it
will automatically turns the water lock on. Once you have finished
swimming just turn the digital crown round a few times in either or
both directions and it will be unlocked.

Hello all,

I am looking to get an Apple Watch Series 4, my dilemma is whether to get
the WI-FI or Cellular model.
My main question is how is the battery life with the cellular model? I am
thinking that the battery life with the cellular model might be less, but
I do not know how true this might be.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Very nice review indeed. Apparently that model isn’t made now. They had a
link on the review page for the site that has the best price according to
them, which turns out to be Amazon. But then amazon said that item is no
longer available but there was a newer model. I think that Cristobal is
right that seeing it before you buy it is really important.

I'm 6-2 FT tall. So for me, the longer and wider belt for me was a
necessity. It has a capacity of up to 350 LBS. I fluctuate between 212 and
230 LBS throughout the year depending on the season (holiday eating here
we come baby) and usually throw on a 30/40 LBS backpack and hiking boots
for the extra calorie burn and resistance. So having an all around
sturdier machine was also something I was looking for when I was deciding
on what to get.
There are a bunch of machines with similar specs, but what sold me on this
was the fact that yes, while there is an LCD display and it is menu driven
like with lots of machines isn't ideal if you're blind, the speed and
elevation controls are distinguishable tactile buttons instead of a touch
screen. Honestly, I just speed up and slow down, increase and decrease the
elevation manually and don’t' bother with the programs. The other huge
plus is that the safety rails are longer than your average treadmill and
there are speed/elevation controls built into them so you don't have to
hassle with fiddling feeling around on the front consul and can keep your
hands on/around the rails for safety. You can set up to four profiles so
that it can remember your weight/height or whatever. My sighted wife just
knows to put it back to mine whenever she's done using it.
As I mentioned, I mainly use the manual function and haven't really played
with Run Social or those types of apps, but The associated Nautilus app is
completely VoiceOver accessible. After my hike/walk, I can synchronize the
workout and review my stats. Duration, speed, heart rate, calories burned.
My Fitness Pal which it can also pare to is accessible. None of these apps
that I know of will actually allow you the ability to control the machine.
I'm not aware of any treadmill that does this. At least not in the way we
would want it. I guess there's the line of Peloton treadmills that are
Internet connected, but it's probably not what you're looking for. That
and then you're talking around $4000. I don't know what your budget is.
https://www.treadmillreviews.net/peloton-tread/
For me, this works more than fine with the easy to access controls. I just
throw on my Aftershokz Trekz Air headphones and blast them timing myself
by song. Jog for two, walk for five, full on run for three, etc. Being
able to slow down or speed up via the rails is a major plus and
convenience.
The T618 is the top model of the Nautilus line with two cheaper options
that bump you down on motor power in case you or no one in your family is
on the bigger side and don't need/want the higher weight capacity. I
waited for it to go on sale and scored a deal via Amazon for $975 with
free assembly. You really don’t' want to try putting this thing together.
It's a beast. The description talks about foldable for storage, but yeah,
once it's put together, it's not going anywhere. It weighs something like
280 LBS. My treadmill is in my garage and will stay there until I move or
die.
Whatever you choose, try if you can to get a feel for them at any local
retailer that has some models. I was fortunate that I was able to get a
feel for this one and some others. It felt over all more solid and there
were other things like the way the belt was in relation to the consul. The
rail controls are what really sold me on it too. There was a proform I was
interested in until I tried it and found that I kept on kicking the motor
housing in the front due to the layout. Another I had to lean forward or
down to reach the buttons. Others had weird feeling controls that would be
hard to distinguish if you're at a jogging/running pace or a straight up
touch screen. This sort of stuff is probably more important than app
accessibility.

Once you have finished your work out is it possible to see what your heart rate

Re: Seeking Advice on Upgrading from iPhone 5 to iPhone SE

2018-09-05 Thread 'Linda Gaitskell' via VIPhone

Hi Craig

personally unless you have enough sight to see the screen then I can't
see that it's necessary to have the latest and greatest which I believe
are all larger than the se. I am currently using the se and will keep
it until it can't be updated any more or there's something I want' to do
that can't be done on the se. Once the new phones come out you might
find the se gets even cheaper.

  Hi Linda,

I use my watch for swimming all the time and while I haven’t set an alarm I
am almost certain the alarm would sound.

One thing I would, however, srongly advise is that you not get an Apple Watch
in the next 3 or so weeks since most likely in 3 weeks (the week of September
10) Apple will have their big event and while a new Apple Watch was released
last year, it seems the rumours are that another new watch is expected this
year. My wife and I both have the second generation Apple Watches (before last
year’s model) and we are both not so happy with how responsive they are.
Apparently the third generation watch is much better, but it is of course to be
expected that if a fourth generation watch will be released that it has an even
faster processor and other improvements. I also would say that unless you
absolutely can’t afford the higher price of whatever is the top model you need
to buy the newest model. I for one don’t feel it is reasonable to expect people
should upgrade their watch every year or two although if this year’s model has
some really cool improvements I might be very tempted especially since both my
wife and I had the batteries of our 6S and 6S Plus replaced this year, the
phones are working great and we are not upgrading our phones for at least
another year. We’ll see, it all depends on what we can get for our old second
gen watches if we sell them and so on, but to buy an Apple Watch now with a new
one possibly weeks away is not a good idea. If anything last year’s watch can
probably be had at a bit of a discount once the new model comes out.

  Regards,

  Sieghard

i'm thinking of getting an apple watch and was wondering if seeing as the

Hi Simon

is the vibration strong enough to feel if you're not expecting it? I read
somewhere that the vibration was very mild.

Thanks

you won't hear the sound of the alarm when it is under water, but the watch
will vibrate.
I have used this a lot when open water swimming, so that I am not late for
other things as well, and it is just so useful to know when it is time to start
heading back to shore.
I know what you mean, the second gen watch can be a little slow to respond,
so would also like to hear about the 4th gen's improvements, as it is something
I may well go for.

Hi Linda,

I use my watch for swimming all the time and while I haven’t set an alarm I
am almost certain the alarm would sound.

One thing I would, however, srongly advise is that you not get an Apple
Watch in the next 3 or so weeks since most likely in 3 weeks (the week of
September 10) Apple will have their big event and while a new Apple Watch was
released last year, it seems the rumours are that another new watch is expected
this year. My wife and I both have the second generation Apple Watches (before
last year’s model) and we are both not so happy with how responsive they are.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi

Here is how to initiate a conversation on Facebook with one of your
friends.

On the bottom of the screen, there are tabs for Newsfeed, Watch i.e.
videos, Requests, Market Place, Notifications and More. Double tap on the more
button. This will bring you to your personal Home page.

Double tap on the friends button. Just swipe right going down the page
until you hear friends. Then select the friend you want to write something on
their wall. Double tap the friend’s name and it will take you to their
personal home page. Swiping left to right going down the page, you will come
to a field that will read as “write something on this page or post on their
wall. Double tap that field and the keyboard pops up and you can type the
message and then click or double tap post when you are done. If there is no
field read aloud to write something, it is usually because that friend has
their privacy settings set so that no one can write on their wall.

There is a work around for this. You can write on your wall and tag that
person in the post or simply type their name in the field. For instance, you
can double tap at the top of your newsfeed where it says check in or write
something. Then begin typing Mary Smith how about those Steelers (lol). Then
tap post. Rather double tap post.

One thing I did not mention in my previous email is opening posts that
contain more than one name. I sometimes get a post of a video and it reads as
an example, Mary Smith and John Brown shared a video. Simply one finger double
tap does not open the post. I figured out that I had to double tap and hold on
the second tap in order to open the post so I could view the video. It
sometimes takes a couple of tries to get it to open.

If you have any more questions, I am happy to answer if I am able.

Kathy

  Hi Linda,

After you double tap the Facebook Menu tab at the bottom right, go to the top
of the screen and swipe right until you hear “Show Profile and Pages” button.

If you double tap on this it will change and now say “Hide profiles and
Pages”, now swipe right until you hear “your Profile”, and double tap on that.

If I do this Voiceover seems to focus on my cover photo, then if I swipe
right I get my Profile picture and if I swipe right again I get buttons to
“edit cover photo” and “edit profile picture”.

If I continue to swipe right I hear my name, then “Add temporary Bio”, a
“Post” button” and then “Edit Profile” and “View As”

Continueing to swipe right I hear some information I put in about my school
and where I am from and all that, eventually I get to 3 tabs:

  About tab, 1 of 3

  Photos tab,2 of 3

  Friends tab, 3 of 3

If you double tap the friends tab it will show you all your friends.

As a quicker method you can also get there by finding the “Show Top
Shortcuts” button which is just one swipe to the right of the “Show Profile and
Pages” button.

If you double tap the “Show top shortcuts” button it again becomes a “Hide
Top Shortcuts” button and now shortcuts are shown underneath, I get the
following buttons

  Most Recent

  Friends

  Groups

  Market Place

  Events

  Memories

  Saved

  Pages

  Local

  Feeds

  Nearby Friends

  Recommendations

Obviously if you double tap on the “Friends” button you also see the list of
your friends and it’s a lot easier and faster to get there.

  Sieghard

I am sorry for the delay in replying. I have a sinus infection I think and
I fell asleep on the sofa. Am trying to figure out if you figured out how to
post on soneone’s wall.

I am not running the latest IOS or Facebook on my phone. I know I know….I
have a stupid game I like that I am afraid I will lose once I update.

So when I said double tap on the more button, you said your tab says
Facebook menu. I assume it will have a selection to view your home page. Or,
your profile where you can view items such as friends, events, groups you
belong to your saved items etc. On this page, you will select the friend’s tab
by double tapping. Then you would choose your friend by double tapping and it
will take you to their page. On that page, you will scroll down either by
swiping left to right with one finger or the three finger gesture. You will
then come to a field that says “write something to Linda” for example. Once
you hear that spoken, it should be followed by text field. Double tap on that
spoken phrase and the keyboard will pop up. Write your message and then double
tap post.

My tabs are like your tabs with the exception that my last or fifth tab
says More instead of facebook Menu.

  Hello,

One way to write to a specific person is to choose the Your Profile Tab.

Navigate to the Friends item and double tap here.

You should now have a list of your friends.

Double tap your chosen friend and you should have a button to write to that
friend.

  Hi

Here is how to initiate a conversation on Facebook with one of
your friends.

On the bottom of the screen, there are tabs for Newsfeed, Watch
i.e. videos, Requests, Market Place, Notifications and More. Double tap on the
more button. This will bring you to your personal Home page.

Double tap on the friends button. Just swipe right going down
the page until you hear friends. Then select the friend you want to write
something on their wall. Double tap the friend’s name and it will take you to
their personal home page. Swiping left to right going down the page, you will
come to a field that will read as “write something on this page or post on
their wall. Double tap that field and the keyboard pops up and you can type
the message and then click or double tap post when you are done. If there is
no field read aloud to write something, it is usually because that friend has
their privacy settings set so that no one can write on their wall.

There is a work around for this. You can write on your wall and
tag that person in the post or simply type their name in the field. For
instance, you can double tap at the top of your newsfeed where it says check in
or write something. Then begin typing Mary Smith how about those Steelers
(lol). Then tap post. Rather double tap post.

One thing I did not mention in my previous email is opening posts
that contain more than one name. I sometimes get a post of a video and it
reads as an example, Mary Smith and John Brown shared a video. Simply one
finger double tap does not open the post. I figured out that I had to double
tap and hold on the second tap in order to open the post so I could view the
video. It sometimes takes a couple of tries to get it to open.

If you have any more questions, I am happy to answer if I am
able.

  Kathy

First, you simply one finger double tap to open a post where you

Second, if you do not want to view the post, you can double tap

The more button provides other options such as saving the post, unfollowing a

started. I signed up for Facebook about nine years ago but recently began

with it. Now that I have it on my phone, I am on it every day. So much
easier.

So I got the Facebook app on my phone. Anyone got tips and tricks for how to
get around on this app, how to move between posts, read all the comments on

it is less cluttered than the “big” Facebook site, , but this looks different.

  Thanks.
