Re: Fleksy Alternatives for pre-iOS 7 Users?

2013-12-19 Thread Bill Rappos
Hi all!

Just wanted to let you know that our latest update is rolling out over the
App Store. Here's the changelog:

New:
- iOS 6 support
- Manual capitalization is back: In manual entry mode, flick up after a
letter to change to upper case. Flick down for lower case
- Add twitter handles and emails to the dictionary! With manual entry, type
@fleksy and flick up like normal. Now whenever you type fleksy,
@fleksy will be one of the suggestions.
Similarly, feedbackfleksycom will be corrected to feedb...@fleksy.com

Fixed:
- Tamed the instructional popup
- , ? ! ; : will now be read properly by VO instead of Period
- various bugs and crashes

Hint:
Start your text with:
M @fleksy
and select Tweet from menu to send us a DM :D

Known Issue:
- On iOS 6, Fleksy might stop processing taps properly on app resume when
VO is enabled. Workaround: Quit Fleksy from App Switcher and restart. Your
text will be saved. We are working on a fix for the next update.

Once again, we want to apologize for any inconvenience. We start to rebuild
with this version.

Looking forward to your feedback!

- the Fleksy team

Bill, thanks so much for providing this information. I am still

nice to know what was driving your decision to move to iOS 7. The ability
for third-party apps to integrate the Fleksy keyboard into their app so
that users can type with Fleksy is a wonderful feature. If I'm reading my
list posts correctly, it sounds as if BlindSquare has already integrated

I look forward to your updates on this issue at least until I decide to
 upgrade to iOS 7.

Lucian, Christopher, thanks for following up on the discussion.

I understand your concerns and agree that the switch to iOS 7 did not go
as planned. The unexpected time bomb bug forced our hand before we could
incorporate iOS 6 support for our brand new engine or even communicate the
 change appropriately.

There is, however, reason why our keyboard service is at this time
compatible only with iOS 7. As of today, Fleksy is available as a keyboard
option for third party apps. This means that Fleksy can be integrated at
the application-level of any iOS app. Any developer can incorporate Fleksy
into their app, giving their users the choice to type with Fleksy.

We were able to develop the SDK because of the tools iOS 7 introduced.

However, since last week we made progress in porting the new engine to iOS
6 and have built alpha versions since. Pending a few crashes, we will be
submitting an update for Fleksy to restore functionality for iOS 6 as soon
 as possible.

Once again, thank you fore your patience and understanding!

Yes, I did contact Fleksy support and they simply told me that Fleksy
version 1.9 (the last iOS 6 working version) is not supported anymore. As
 if they had to!

Yes, there are apps that only work on iOS 7 these days. But they either
started on iOS 7, or they have a backend that no longer supports the iOS 6
version. As far as I understand, the technology behind Fleksy is built-in
inside the app and does not require online presence (heck, if a typing app
requires you to be connected to their servers, then something is fishy big
 time).

So in short I find no excusable justification to what Fleksy did. They're
lucky their service is not high profile and they don't affect a real lot of
paying users. Just think the backlash that, say, Apple would get if
suddenly iTunes would no longer start on OS X pre-Mavericks, and would give
you no option but to upgrade, even on a 2007 laptop. Luckily for them
Fleksy is no Apple. But at this rate, I don't see them even turning
profitable. What a shame when it's not the technology that buries you, but
 poor customer support.

I really enjoyed Fleksy during the nine months I was using it but I think
I prefer apps that don't feel the need to upgrade quite so quickly every
time another iOS version is released. Yes, I know that makes me sound like
a bit of a Luddite but I suspect I'm not the only one who spends time
learning an app that meets my needs and doesn't want to upgrade to
something that makes numerous interface changes in order to provide some

functionality was quite amazing so I will no doubt return to it at some
 point.

Thanks in advance for any typing alternative app recommendations.

Re: Fleksy

2013-12-03 Thread Bill Rappos
Hey guys,

Thank you for you feedback! We are listening and are already working on
many fixes and improvements for Fleksy 2.1

As stated in the changelog, we do plan to bring back manual capitalization
very, very soon.
Also, it should be stated that Fleksy 2.0 does capitalize words
automatically, whenever it is needed so words after new paragraphs, periods
or proper names already in the dictionary, will be capitalized properly and
automatically.
Manual capitalization is one of the features we had to rebuilt because of
the new engine. We will bring it back very soon, but we didn't want to
delay the very important bug fixing release any further.
I'd like to also take the chance to note that we are working on bring back
support for iOS 6.

When Fleksy 1.0 was first released, it was far from perfect. But we kept
working on it and so we will for Fleksy 2.0. And we will do everything we
can to reward your patience.

Thank you!

A Fleksy orientation question

2013-02-21 Thread Bill Rappos
Hello Cher,

Fleksy supports both orientations. Here are some tips on how to type in
Landscape:

1. If your iPhone is locked in portrait, unlock it, start Fleksy and just flip
your phone landscape. Fleksy will follow along. The keyboard will populate the
bottom half of the screen and span the whole width.

2. If you iPhone is locked in portrait and you want to keep it that way, but
you still want to type in landscape with Fleksy: Head to the Settings app and
find Fleksy on the list. Choose the Lock Orientation option and select
Landscape Left or Landscape Right, according to your preference(Right or Left
refer to were the home button will be after the lock takes place). Press the
home button to exit the Settings and press the home button twice to bring up
the App Switcher. Find Fleksy and force quit it. Dismiss the App Switcher and
open Fleksy from your home screen. Fleksy will be in Landscape, with the home
button being to the right or left, according to your choice before.

Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.

Bill

Re: Fleksy question

2013-02-02 Thread Bill Rappos
Hi Kirsten,

I find most convenient the following:

First, toggle the Include subject in body to the Off position in the
Settings app located in your homescreen. This setting will make the first
line of your text in Fleksy be your Subject line.

Then, when typing in Fleksy, start by entering a new line. This will leave
the Subject line empty and all the actual text entered in Fleksy sent to
the email's text body.

Try it out!

can come off of using the restore button (smile).

If, however, the restore doesn't work and you are still stuck with free
Fleksy, let us know at supp...@fleksy.com and we will take it from there.

Thanks for using Fleksy and

Happy Typing!

Bill

I have three Apple devices. Do I need to purchase Fleksy for each
device if I want them on all three of them?

 Thanks.

 Hi all!

 Thanks for checking out Fleksy!

In standard Fleksy typing mode, a swipe left will always delete the
 last
word entered, or the word currently being typed.

It is possible, however, to delete by character, when in accutyping
 mode.
This is the typing mode that enables entering custom words: Tap and
 hold on
the keyboard and drag to your desired letter. Release. Every letter
 you
input this way, you can delete with a swipe left.

You can at any time dive into the extensive instructions by visiting
 this
 link: http://manual.fleksy.com

And feel free to contact the Fleksy team any time at support @

 Happy Typing!

Re: Putting capitals in Fleksy?

2013-01-25 Thread Bill Rappos
Hey Gerardo,

To enter a capital letter anywhere in Fleksy, tap and hold on the screen
where you think that letter is. Drag your finger until you find it and then
release. We call this accutyping mode. When you accutype letters, you can
swipe up after to change their case. For example, accutyping the letter g
and then swiping up will produce capital G.

If the capitalized word you mean to type is already in the dictionary, you
can type the rest of the letters with the standard Fleksy manner and swipe
right. The resulting word will be capitalized properly.

If the word isn't in the dictionary, accutype each following letter and
then swipe right. Fleksy will not autocorrect your entry but produce the
exact word you entered. At this moment you can swipe up to store your
custom word to the dictionary. Fleksy will also remember capitalization
status, so you don't have to worry about accutyping that name again, you
can just type it like normal and it will be offered as a suggestion.

Let me know if that helps or if you have any other questions,

Regards,

Bill

Re: Capitalizing words with Fleksy

2012-12-12 Thread Bill Rappos
Hey!

Tap and hold on the keyboard and drag your finger towards the letter you
want to capitalize. Once you find it, release. Afterwards, swipe up to
change the case.

That's it!
