Hello all.
I was recently told about an app called Empower, which decentralizes 
ridesharing and gives all money to the drivers. Fares are reportedly about 20 
percent lower than Uber or Lyft.
Signing up was no problem, but there are unlabeled buttons on the “Request 
Ride” screen, and I cannot even change my home address easily.
Has anyone explored this app and figured out the unlabeled buttons?
I was able to get to the Help section, scroll down to Suggestions, and ask for 
full VoiceOver accessibility. I think this might be something we can all get 
behind and request.

Absolutely horrendous iPhone SE Second Generation Problem

Good day all:
As the subject indicates, I have an iPHone SE Second Generation, running the 
latest software, that up until several hours ago, was absolutely fine.
Suddenly, as I was changing my display name in my Zoom app, a bizarre chirping 
noise sounded, followed several seconds later by the same sound.  Seemingly 
simultaneously, I became unable to use dictation or the text field to change my 
name, even though it said “editing”.
I tried in the Safari address bar. Same result.
I rebooted the phone. Same thing.
I called Apple. I was told to go to my Settings and restore settings. When it 
came time to put in my passcode . . . you guess it . . . the same thing 
happened, and I was unable to complete the restore.
So off to my MacBook. (I luckily had a recent iCloud backup. I restored 
settings. Input all the needed information to get to the restore from backup 
process. All went smoothly. I put in a passcode. Tried using an edit field in 
messages and other places. Same weird sound, same inability to type, though at 
the moment dictation is working.
However, this is obviously not sustainable.
Please advise. I suspect this is a Genius Bar appointment, but I don’t even 
know if Apple is having people come to physical stores yet. Has anyone heard of 
this? Is there a fix? A workaround? Thanks.

Trouble on Woot Ap

Happy New Year to all.
I am valiantly attempting to purchase something on the iPhone Woot app, 
necessary because the deal is only available through the app. I am unable to 
locate any button, labeled or unlabeled, that will allow me to complete my 
purchase. All information is correct; the only unlabeled actions I have been 
able to perform is opening “Terms and Conditions” and canceling and going back 
to the “Proceed to Checkout” screen. If anyone has experience with this and can 
provide a workaround/solution, I would sincerely appreciate it.

What is with my Apple WAtch and message syncing?

I cannot figure out why “mirror my iPhone” is not working with mail and 
messages on my Apple Watch. If I delete on my MacBook, iPhone, or the watch, it 
does not seem to be taking. Everything is checked off in iCloud. Is there some 
preference or other I need to check? I’ve tried resetting everything, but to no 
avail.

Converting pdf files that are png images

Is this possible? I have tried everything I can think of, including sending the 
file (a shaker bottle manual) to robobraille for conversion. I tried saving the 
file to KNFB Reader and iBooks, Adobe, Preview, etc. Nothing doing. Is there 
any way to access this? Thanks.

Harassing Huboodle Hurdles

OK, fellow Huboodle addicts. I’m having issues with Huboodle, aside from the 
addiction, that is. I have gotten to level 90 in Trivia Traile, and no matter 
what I do, 91 is disabled and won’t let me play. I have had to play many T.T. 
levels over again, as my stats did not update, and levels I completed became 
disabled again. That was frustrating, but this is much worse. I have been cut 
off by the Trivia Trail bartender, and I am about to start a brawl.
I did write to the develper about the stats update issue, and they said when 
Huboodle runs for a while, they see these issues, and suggested I go back to 
Home every once in a while, and go back in. This sometimes worked for updating 
stats properly, but the app would freeze at a given level, and I would have to 
exit out completely and go back in. Now I am not able to continue at all, 
though the other games are working. Anyone else experiencing this? Workarounds?

Anyone else experiencing issues with Amazon Alexa app?

A few friends have reported that they are having a lot of trouble with the 
Amazon Alexa app, particularly with regard to accessing information about 
skills and enabling them. They are reporting that it is hit or miss, usually 
miss, and say that they cannot add from the Amazon Skills store because of the 
same issues many of us are having with Amazon in general; it constantly says 
“loading” and dialog boxes keep popping up. I suggested trying adding through 
the skills store on the Amazon iPhone app, but they are saying it is 
frustrating that if they have to use their iPhone, they should be able to use 
the app made specifically for what they want to do. I tend to agree. Is anyone 
else having issues, and if so, can anyone offer some tips for me to offer?

P.S. One issue in particular seems to be finding and adding news items to the 
“flash briefing”.

Braille Displays . . . Again!!!!

Hello all:
At the risk of being another pain in the behind looking for the optimal Braille 
display for my needs, here are my needs:

1. It must be very portable;

2. It will be used for mostly a great deal of reading, and is needed for work 
and personal use;

3. It must work reliably with the iPhone;

4. As a rapid Braille reader, one of the tinier displays simply will not do, 
*yet*, a I cannot imagine that any 40-cell display is truly portable. I have 
never seen a 24- or 32-cell display, and suspect they might be right for me, 
but aside from the Brailliant, I have been unable to find reviews on any 24- or 
32-cell displays.

5. The Actilino looked good, until I read that it only had 16 cells, *ant* that 
updating it would require a Windows machine. On a related note, I cannot find 
any reviews of Basic Braille, though the description looked good.

6. I seriously considered ESYS 24, but it is a little pricier than I want; my 
limit is $2500, and I prefer between $1500 and $2000.
 Also, I heard the ESYS devices require a Windows machine for updating.
7. Can anyone who is an extremely fast Braille reader who uses one of the 
smaller Braille displays please let me know their experiences, good or bad?

8. Does ATC on the Actilino really work, perhaps canceling out the fact that it 
is quite small? Anything sluggish simply is not going to cut it.

9. I have fairly small hands, so ergonomics requires easy access to panning and 
the space bar; I also have had rather nasty tendinitis in my dominant hand from 
using my cane and from too much typing on the iPhone, so I have to take this 
into account. 

10. I have seen the Focus line of displays and do not particularly like them.


11. The Vario Ultra 20 looks pretty good, but I am not sure if it might be too 
small; it would depend on how easy it is to move from line to line, and I have 
seen some reviews which say it is more complicated than some of the others, 
though I realize this is quite subjective.
12 I have seen the lists of supported displays, and cannot find reviews for 
most of them. 
Help! Please! Thanks so much. I need more inconspicuous access to my reading; I 
feel rude having an earphone in my ear when others around me are presenting or 
talking.

Clarification re Can't Change iCloud Email Address

My husband and I both have gmail addresses, which we use for our Apple ID’s. I 
have an iCloud email address, which I set up several years ago. When I did so, 
I was able to choose “cfgrassman” rather than “cgrassman1009” which is what I 
use for gmail. 
My husband wants to have an iCloud email, and attempted to set it up. When his 
user information comes up, his first and last name are listed, with an edit box.
Below this is offered an icloud.com  address, using the 
same user name as the one he uses for gmail. As I did, he wants to use a 
different name before the @ sign. However, the offered icloud address which 
mirrors his gmail address does not appear to be editable. He is *not* changing 
his Apple ID; he still intends to use the gmail address for that. However, he 
does want to set up an iCloud address that is different from his gmail user 
name, as I did. Despite searching around, we cannot figure out how to do this.

Can't change icloud email address

Hello all:
When I first set up my icloud email, I was able to use a different name than 
the one on my gmail account. My husband, however, is only receiving the option 
to use the same name followed by icloud.com  The edit box 
is dimmed, and there is no way to edit the offered address. How can he change 
the name before the @ sign? Thank you.

think? I have been awaiting its release for months now; APH has no information, 
and Orbit Research does not respond to email or phone inquiries, which frankly

TC Conference: Cannot Connect

Trying to connect to the iOS 11 webinar and cannot connect on either my iPhone 
or the Mac. On the Mac I keep getting a “connection list” — but I’ve never 
connected, and on the iPhone it just hangs, saying “Wait” for about a minute, 
then goes back to the original connect screen.

Dear ViPhone and Mac Visionaries Listers:
I have submitted a report about Duolingo’s accessibility shortcomings, made 
worse by its most recent update, to an attorney who specializes in encouraging 
companies to make inclusion of people with disabilities in the provision of 
goods and services a priority. As one of the most frequently downloaded 
educational apps the purpose of which is to teach language, there is no reason 
why this app should not be completely accessible, particularly with Apple’s 
developer tools.
As a person who greatly enjoys learning about and learning languages, I put up 
with the glitches and found workarounds to get myself to a 45-day learning 
streak. I reached out to the company, but received no reply other than a 
“thanks for the information” response. 
The most recent update makes it virtually impossible for someone using 
VoiceOver to use the app, particularly with respect to the audio: it simply is 
not working most of the time.
If anyone who has recently tried, or currently wishes, to use this app would 
like to submit their own complaint to the attorney, please write me off-list.
If there is interest in making more noise about this, perhaps through an 
applevis or similar campaign, that would also be great.

iPhone X Question

This is a “visual” question, in the sense that it is not possible for me to 
gauge by the information out there what the iPhone X “looks like” and will feel 
like in one’s hand. When the screen size is described, they say “on the 
diagonal,” and they discuss “rounded edges” — but I cannot get a sense of what 
the phone would feel like as compared to what it feels like now. Does it bulge 
slightly outward toward the center and have super thin edges? Is it essentially 
the size of the larger devices now, such as the S’s or Pluses, insofar as what 
is held in your hand? I prefer a smaller device, but like the idea of rounded 
edges and a thinner body . . . but I am having a difficult time discerning what 
the X’s hardware is like. Can someone with some  vision describe, or is there a 
source which describes this well? Thanks much.

Clarification Re Duolingo Plus, Anyone?

Hello again all. In my earlier post, I indicated that I was having trouble with 
Duolingo Plus, which is a paid add-on to basic Duolingo. The free app is quite 
accessible on both the Mac and iPhone, with some minimal frustrating 
exceptions. (On the Mac, for example, I cannot for the life of me figure out 
how to replay spoken words and phrases, whereas replay is readily available on 
the iPhone. On the other hand, I cannot open new lessons on the iPhone, but I 
can practice after working the lessons on the Mac.) My frustration is with my 
inability to download lessons, which one can apparently only do with a mobile 
device. I am not getting the “Download skill” option described on the site’s 
instructions for DuoLingo Plus.

Duolingo Plus, Anyone?

Hello all. I decided to take the plunge and pay for Duolingo Plus, but it does 
not appear to be accessible. I believe I have tried every unlabeled button I 
could find to determine whether I could get the “download skill” message, but 
no luck. Also, while I can practice skills on the app, I have found it 
impossible to start new lessons on the app (ad-free or otherwise), , and can do 
so only on the Mac. . If anyone who uses the app can shed some light on this, 
it would be much appreciated.appreciated.

Duolingo Question

Hello, all. I would appreciate feedback from anyone who uses this app. I really 
enjoy it, despite my need to deal with some less than accessible aspects, but 
one thing is confusing me, and I am not sure whether I am mmissing something.
I would like to practice repeating words and phrases beyoond the instances 
where I am asked to translate in the lsssons: basically, I want to sit down and 
really practice with the native speaker the phrases I am mastering. There does 
not seem to be a place where the words and phrases in the vrious lessons are 
located to do this. Am I missing something?
It also seems as if there is more information on the main web site about one’s 
progress and where it is suggested you go next than within the app. Any 
feedback is appreciated; I love this app and want to get the most out of it.

Sonos Tube, Anyone?

Hello all:
This past holiday season, our family purchased three Sonos players. We are all 
quite pleased with them, except that my son loves to listen to videos on 
YouTube, and would like to hear them on his Sonos speaker. There is an app 
called Sonos Tube which purports to play YouTube videos on Sonos. Not all 
buttons are labeled, but I managed to locate one of his favorite channels using 
the SEarch feature. I cannot get Sonos to play them, however. WE have Play 1 
speakers. Help is sincerely appreciated.

P.S. Sonos Connect and a Bluetooth receiver are ridicullusly expensive options 
for the simple task of listening to YouTube videos, so we would like to avoid 
that route.

Attention, Any Users of MTA ETix App in New York City, Please Help

Good day:
If anyone in the New York City, Long Island, or surrounding areas is using this 
app, I would appreciate assistance. 
VoiceOver works fine for virtually everything; some things are a little 
confusing, but it is all workable . . . except for the most important part.
After the ticket is activated, VoiceOver says “Pull down for the bar code.” I 
have tried everything I could think of. Swiping with one, two, three, or four 
fingers. Pass-through gesture. Shutting VoiceOver off and trying to swipe. 
Nothing. Sometimes, when I try turning off VoiceOver, swiping and turn it back 
on, it then says”Push up for the color bar.” Again, I cannot do this. 

Apparently, when done correctly, there is some swirl of colors which indicates 
to the conductor that it is a valid ticket. Some conductors, once they see that 
the ticket has been activated (it says ticket activated at” and the time, they 
are fine with it. Others, however, insist that the colors are visible, and I 
always have to receive assistance with this. The conductors are not permitted  
to touch the phones, so I must ask a passenger if I am traveling alone.  This 
is obviously not ideal. 
Does anyone have any idea what I might be able to do to resolve this? I have 
reported this issue to the Long Island Railroad, and was assured they would 
give the information to the developer. 
This could take weeks. I travel daily and have a monthly ticket which needs to 
be activated for both parts of my commute. Any workarounds would be exceedingly 
appreciated.

Absolutely Infuriating Issue With Sending Dictated Messages using Siri

The issue: I have always been able to use Siri to send messages, fully 
dictating the recipient’s name and the message. Suddenly, there is this bizarre 
issue: if I dictate both the name and the message, it is written and repeated 
back correctly, but when it is sent, it comes back to me with a message 
apologizing, but the message was not understood. Clearly, since it was both 
repeated and written correctly, it *was* understood. If I write the recipient’s 
name in the To field,*or* if I dictate their phone number, it works as it is 
supposed to work. *And, when it does work in that instance, the number is 
associated with the correct recipient, so there is no disconnect between 
recipients and numbers in my contacts.
I have tried:
1. Powering off the phone;
2. Rebooting the phone;
3. Restoring the phone;
4. Syncing the phone;
5. Syncing after rebooting both the phone and my MacBook.
I have called Apple twice. Nothing is correcting this problem. Since I 
frequently dictate messages because of severe tendinitis in my dominant hand, 
this is actually a rather frustrating issue for me.
Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this? I am using an iPhone 6 with the 
latest iOS update.

Frustration with Trying to Cancel Newsstand Subscription on iPhone Kindle App

Good day, all:
I wish to unsubscribe from a magazine within my iPhone Kindle app. I tried to 
find the subscription itself on both the Kindle app and within my Amazon 
account on my iPhone. According to the information I found, I am supposed to be 
able to locate the subscription within Manage Content and Devices. I see my 
subscription title in the Kindle app, but there is no “more actions” to 
unsubscribe. On my Amazon app, I can only locate purchased books, even though I 
have “All” checked. What am I missing? Thanks.

Need opinions about waiting for iPhone 7 or getting SE

Is there any reason to wait a few weeks to use my upgrade toward an 
iPhone 7, based on what is known? My iPHone 6 was brutally victimized by a car 
backing up today, and I am now faced with using my upgrade for an SE, or using 
my daughter’s old 5C until the iPHone 7 comes out. I don’t want the hassle of 
syncing two new phones in rather quick succession, so I am trying to figure out 
whether to just get the SE (I like the smaller screen), or wait and see with 
the iPHone 7. From what I’m able to gather, the main features of interest 
involve improved camera, which I do not care about, and unless there are any 
amazing features or improvements, I figure I may as well wait for the ten-year 
anniversary for Apple to wow me. 

In short: 1. Take my daughter’s old 5C for a few weeks; or
2. Use my upgrade, get the SE, and wait for next year because the 7 isn’t worth 
wasting my upgrade or extra money.

Urgent assistance needed: finding iPhone IMEI number in iTunes preferences

Hello all: My iPhone was run over and the glass is smashed; it is done for. I 
need to give Apple the ImEI  number, but I am told that one has to hover the 
mouse over the devices in the iTunes back-up list to do this, and I have no 
clue how to do this. All I am getting is my iPhone’s name and the date

Help with Updated HBOGo app Needed

I am rather frustrated with my inability to locate shows from the 2016 season 
on HBOGo. It was already frustrating not being able to hit play with VoiceOver 
on, but at least the app was somewhat accessible. Now when I search for a show, 
the title comes up but only the 2015 season episodes are showing. I cannot get 
current episodes to play. Also I cannot find where to add a series pass so that 
shows can be automatically added to my watch list, which could conceivably

learning disabilities and a wide range of literacy levels, is seeking 
educational programs and apps. We are particularly interested in writing

Download Folder on iPhone? ??????

Hello all:
While I am sure the response to a question I asked earlier was 
well-intentioned, it left me more confused than ever. I was directed to access 
the files I downloaded in Mail from Mail Drop by going to my Download folder.   
I had indicated that the filenames disappeared from the email message once the 
files were downloaded, and tapping on “iCloud download” did nothing. 
I have used an iPhone for about seven years now, and I am unaware of any 
“download folder” and could not find anything resembling information about how 
to access one, even in the newest software updates. I suspect the kind 
individual who made this suggestion may have misunderstood and was suggesting 
that I access the files on the download folder of a computer, but I am trying 
to access the files on the phone. I have accessed files before, within Mail, 
that were mp3 files sent via Mail Drop. I do not know why I cannot find these; 
they are also mp3 files. So if I am missing something, I would appreciate being 
set straight. Thanks for all help.

How to access files downloaded from Mail Drop onto my iPhone

Hello, all:

I am exceedingly confused. Last week, I accessed a file sent via mail drop from 
within mail by simply tapping on the file. Yesterday, I downloaded four 
attachments from mail drop in Mail. It says iCloud download and attachments 
downloaded, but I cannot access the files. Is there somewhere I need to go to 
access them if I do not open them immediately?  Yesterday, the names of the 
different files showed in my email message before they were downloaded. Now I 
do not see the filenames. I looked on-line, but see nothing about how to access 
them on the phone once downloaded.

Unacceptable Response from Issuu Support Team Regarding VoiceOver Accessibility

Dear All:

Issuu is an app which provides access to millions of magazines, newsletters, 
etc., on virtually any topic you can think of.  My son, who is also a VoiceOver 
user, wanted to access his high school’s newspaper which is on the platform. 
However, it is in an image pdf.  Furthermore, trying to get around the app is 
nightmarish, and it does not appear that any of the available resources is 
accessible. 
I wrote to their support center, and this is the response I received.  My 
response to that unhelpful response is first, with the response in the middle, 
with my original message at the bottom. I think this is absolutely something 
which should be available to those who use screen readers. If others agree, I 
think we should bombard them with requests to make their platform accessible.

At My Wit's End with Listening to Only Checked Music in iTunes

OK, I really do love Apple Music. But when I try to play *only* the music I 
have checked it does not comply; when I listen on my iPhone, it shuffles 
through everything I’ve got in in My Music, including unchecked items. If this 
no longer works if one subscribes to Apple Music, what is the point of having

Not able to find shuffle button any longer for My Music

Apple music confusion: what am I doing wrong?

Okay, so multiple times, I have selected my most loved genres and have selected 
artists. At the end, it says got it. However, I am getting no recommendations, 
and each time I go back to it, it has not saved my options.
There is no done button, which I see on other screens. What am I doing wrong? I

Audio Description from Netflix largely an epic fail

I called Netflix Customer Service and the woman I spoke with was very friendly 
and sympathetic, and essentially said that the only instructions they had was 
the article I posted earlier. The audio description for Daredevil is completely 
unreliable on my end.  I have it working on episodes 1 and 3, but cannot get it 
to work on 2. At all. No matter what I do.
I have been fussing around with Silver Light on my MacBook, trying every which 
way, trying different browsers and the like to see if I can somehow manage to 
find the controls while it is playing to access the subtitles menu, but 
absolutely no luck. This is proving to be extremely frustrating for my son, who 
really wants to continue to watch Daredevil.  They should have never released 
this until it was more reliable. Fed up.
All that undeserved positive publicity, certainly at least at this time. I am 
grateful they are willing, but this is frankly almost worse than having 
nothing, at least under the circumstances I’ve got.

Logging out of Netflix on iPhone and MacBook Air

I am trying to sign out of Netflicks on my iPhone and MacBook Air. I am double 
tapping Sign Out on  my iPhone, but it is not working. (I had to get sighted 
assistance to do this last night.) On my macBook Air, I have tried various 
browsers, and cannot locate a sign out or a log out. There are a bunch of 
unlabeled links just as there are unlabeled buttons or silent spaces in the 
iPhone app. Some help would be appreciated, as I wish to sign out of everything 
so that, perhaps, maybe, audio description might decide to show itself in the 
languages options menu and then actually work when I log back in.

Really frustrated trying to get Netflix audio description to work on either iPhone or Macbook Air with Silver Light

This morning I signed into Netflix on my iPhone and was able to start audio 
description after a second go at the language options menu.  However, since 
then, I cannot get it to work. I have rebooted the phone, closed the app and 
gone back in, signed out and signed back in . . . the option simply is not 
showing up.
I decided to load Silver Light on my MacBook and it installed and played just 
fine. But I could not figure out how to get to the controls, let alone the 
language options menu, if this is indeed possible on the MacBook with Silver 
Light. My son is really excited about listening to Daredevil with audio 
description. Is anyone else having this issue, and can anyone offer a solution 
or workaround?

Slacker Radio Plus Subscription not working on iPhone 6 with latest iOs Update

This seems to be a rather bad week for me and radio apps. First, Pandora is now 
useless and freezes if you do anything with it, and now, after upgrading, as 
per my iTunes account, to Slacker Plus, the app is still behaving as if I did 
not upgrade at all. i wrote to Slacker support, but would like to know if 
anyone else is experiencing this.

Netflix Language Menu in iOS

Some referred to the fact that turning on audio description for Neflix is in 
the language menu on iOS. I have explored the app for nearly half an hour, 
doing searches, pressing the unlabeled buttons, etc., and cannot get to 
settings or language  menu. Choosing my name on the account often brings up the 
ability to set viewer profiles, but I am finding nothing here either. Could 
someone assist, please?

Pandora Radio Issue since latest iOs update: anyone else?

I apologize if this has been discussed before. Since updating to the latest iOs 
on my iPhone 6, I have been having an issue with the Pandora radio app I have 
never experienced before:
If I am listening to a station and hit back arrow, I used to get a list of my 
other stations and the option to create a new station. I could choose another 
station and get to it (although sometimes it would go to the wrong station, and 
I had to repeat the process, which was annoying, but not a deal breaker).
Now, when I go back, VO reads one station, whichever I happen to focus on when 
I touch the screen, then the app freezes entirely. I have to play around with 
the iPhone, hitting the Home button several times, or shutting VO off and then 
on to get the iPhone working again, and Pandora must be closed and reopened.
Anyone else?

Wordpress.com mystery

Hello, all:

For the past hour or so, I have been attempting to get onto wordpress.com. I 
cannot load the main site, my blog, or any other blogs I read on the site. I 
have even tried searching through Google. The URL’s come up, but nothing on the 
site will load.
I checked with a few people who say they are having no trouble.
This is happening on both my iPhone using the wordpress app and Safari, and on 
my MacBook Air.
I am having no trouble reaching any other web sites.
Any thoughts/suggestions? TIA.

signed out, then back into,  the app, to no avail.

Response from TD Bank Mobile App Developers Regarding Reported Bugs

Hello, all.
A couple weeks ago, I reported here about issues with TD Bank's web site and 
recent issues with the mobile app, the latter which had up to that point been 
completely accessible.

Thanks to outreach by Karen Lewellen, another list member, I received 
an email from an app development representative,and I explained the issues to 
him. Yesterday, I received a response. Below, I have copied and pasted my 
original email to him and the response received.  He assures me that the issues 
are up for fixing in a future app update.

For now, the workarounds should suffice. 
Now I'm awaiting results of speaking with another TD Bank rep about the web 
site. Stay tuned.

The mobile app has been fantastic until recently. Between last month and this, 
the layout changed slightly when paying bills, at least as far as I can 
determine with VoiceOver.
The issue I am having is that when I input the payment amount, VoiceOver is 
speaking it but when I hit Submit it just stays on that screen. I had to have 
my husband write it in and hit Submit after turning VO off.
Then, I attempted to check my Account history. I selected sixty days, and after 
the first screen, I hit the next button. Again, nothing happened.
I have tried:

1. powering the phone off, then on, and trying again;

2. Resetting the phone;

3. Deleting, then reinstalling the app.

Hi again Christine, I sat with our testing group and I think we have figured 
out the issues and some potential workarounds for you.

For bill pay after you enter your date and swipe right it is highlighting an 
icon for the pop up calendar. When you use voice over it is voicing that icon 
as Submit  but that is not what it is for and I'm assuming that is why 
nothing is happening for you. As a workaround If you again swipe past that 
first submit it will read the next two objects as Failed visited link then 
it finally goes over to amount. If you continue on the next Submit you reach 
is the actual submit button.

For the account history it appears as you swipe right through the history using 
voice over it never actually reaches the next page button. It will just loop. 
As a workaround if you reach the end of the history then swipe down it is 
letting us then highlight the next button.

Both of these issues are new to us and seemed to have been introduced as of the 
launch of iOS 8. I've had them both logged to be fixed but hopefully these 
workarounds help you in the meantime.

How do I stop a download of an enhanced quality voice?

I chose Alex for download, and it says preparing to download. Above 
this, it says that the enhanced voice for US English has downloaded 30 of 156 
megabytes. But I do not want this. I tried selecting edit, and I see the list 
of languages in my rotor, but no delete or any way of stopping a proceeding 
download. My understanding is that there should be actions for deleting and 
such if I flick through, but I am only seeing done and the list of English 
languages in my rotor with default listed to be selected or deselected, and 
that's it. Help is much appreciated.

Should iOS 8.0 take *this* long to download???

OK, I realize *everyone* is probably downloading now, but I have not 
seen any times longer than six hours with a slow connection for downloading iOS 
8. Both my husband and I are getting 13 hours as an estimate, one hour after 
seeing 8 hours.  Our WiFi connection is fairly good most of the time. Should 
we cancel and restart, or just leave it?

Netflix app frustrations

What on earth is going on with my WiFi?

Yesterday, in an effort to conserve as much battery power as possible, I turned 
screen brightness down to zero and shut off WiFi for a couple hours. When I got 
home, I put WiFi back on. Three or four bars are showing. My WiFi is listed. 
However, everything I am doing is resulting in loading or network in 
progress or the request timed out.
I have tried cycling it off and on again; nothing. Tried rebooting. Nothing. 
The WiFi connection is fine on my MacBook. Any ideas?

Extreme iTunes Frustration Continued: Update

I want to thank all of you who are trying to assist with your suggestions. 
However:

1. I did have music turned off in iTunes and app store.

2. I understand how to use the grid; before going into column browser, the 
album grid was not going past a certain point, no matter what I did. 


3. I did change to column browser, and do see the different listings, but do 
not see where to check and uncheck artists, genres, albums,  or particular 
songs from a particular artist or album.  I am only seeing check or uncheck 
when songs are selected, which was always the case, and which, as started this 
whole problem, does not appear to make a difference.
Going out of my mind with this wasted space on my iPhone, and having to skip, 
skip, skip, when listening to music because of the currently unwanted 
selections. 
 . . . 
Kimba, how did you delete all music from your phone easily and then start over? 
I'm thinking this is my next try.

I guess I am not being clear.   I have unchecked songs, artists, and albums 
that are being synced. This is in my device section, not in my iTunes library. 
I cannot access all album titles in that section, no matter how I manipulate 
the arrows. I do not have sync entire library checked. Music is turned off in 
iTunes and app store. 
Yet still, songs I do not want, and that are unchecked, (not all of them) are 
still being synced, despite the fact that I have all artists, genres, and 
albums unchecked now.

Extreme iTunes Frustration: Someone please Assist

I wrote about this several days ago, and either did not get, or missed, 
responses. I have been slogging through the heaps of iTunes issues posts and 
cannot find anything helpful either.
I have a ton of songs that are syncing to my iPHone which I do not want. I have 
them all unchecked in artists and albums, and only have selected those songs I 
wish to sync. 
I have sync selected albums, artists, and genres selected. iTunes Match is 
off. 
I am still syncing songs, artists, and albums I do not want synced. 

Additionally,  when I go into the albums grid on iTunes, it is only showing a 
tiny portion of my albums. I get to a certain album and there is no more, and I 
can't get beyond that point.

Oh, Dear, Slacker Problem Again . . .

Despite Slacker's fantastic job making its iPhone app accessible once again, I 
have run into a snag they clearly did not anticipate.  I received an unusual 
activity message while listening; I had the audacity to spend some time 
exploring a bunch of different stations in a short period of time. I was asked 
for my password, but then, asked to type the text in the image. I tried 
closing and reopening the app; tried rebooting my phone. Still stuck. 
I wrote to them, and Tweeted as well; no response so far.  Meanwhile, a 
subscription for which I paid is unusable, and I cannot seem to figure out 
where on the web site I can go to attempt a workaround to access my account. I 
cannot locate any log in or account link.

Where is repair iOs?

Because I am still having issues with the native Messages app on my iPhone, I 
want to repair iOs, and was directed to look for it in the Summary radio button 
of iTunes after connecting, syncing, and backing up my phone. I only see 
restore iPhone with no other apparent options.  I suspect this is not the 
same thing, as I have done this before, and there has never been an option to 
run a repair, which is what I need. Help would be appreciated.

*URGENT*: What happened to my music?

I just restored my iPhone, but my music is not syncing. Everything else is 
fine. When I check my iPHone, it says no content. My iTunes library is fine. I 
had originally had only sync selected music and videos but I shut this off, 
just to see if I could get the whole library synced. No music is being synced 
to my phone.

Update on music not syncing after iPHone restore

After an hour of extreme frustration, I discovered that within iTunes and App 
store settings, Music was turned *off*, which I do not understand because in my 
back-up, this should not have been the case.  So, if anyone restores and can't 
find their music, please save yourself the blood pressure points and check that 
setting.

Really Flummoxed: Music Sycing Issue (cross-post)

Hi, all. I am cross-posting because I really am not sure if the problem is with 
my iPhone settings, my MacBook, or my iTunes account.
1.
I did a restore iPHone because of trouble with the native messages app, which 
did resolve the issue.

2. I did a back-up both to iCloud and my computer prior to the Restore.

3. Prior to the restore, I had about 400 of over a thousand songs actually on 
my iPhone, but I do have an iTunes Match subscription.  When I synced my 
iPHone, prior to the Restore, this number of songs was displayed.

4. Now, every one of my 1021 songs is displayed in the iPhones music app,  
because of iTunes Match, with a download button after it.  None of the songs is 
actually on the phone.  Before the Restore, I had about 8 gigs of my 32 free. 
Now I have over 18.

5. If I go into iTunes and check iPHone and Music, it is showing only 57 megs 
of music, and says 4 songs.  My iTunes library, however, is showing all of my 
music, with checked and unchecked items as I specified before the Restore.

Why can I not sync music onto my phone, as opposed to relying on iTunes Match 
downloads? Why am I only showing 4 songs when I am about to sync, when my 
iTunes library is clearly there? This is driving me batty.

Sudden inexplicable problem with Native iPhone Messages app

I have searched the archive, but can't find anything on point, at least not 
with the search words I used.  Has anyone experienced problems with the native 
Messages app recently? I have an iPHone 5, fully updated, with no other current 
issues. When I open the Messages app and hit Compose, it is extremely sluggish. 
After I choose a contact and attempt to go to the edit field for the message, 
it is unresponsive, and sometimes jumps to attach file and send.  There is 
lag time for VoiceOver, and sometimes no speech at all.  When I type, or try to 
review the message, the same lagging, intermittent speech, and sluggishness 
continue.  I have tried rebooting twice.

Frustrations with airdrop sharing

All right, folks, I have spent about an hour of diligent effort trying to 
figure out what is wrong, but I am flummoxed. 
My husband is attempting to share photos with me, iPHone 5 to iPHone 5, latest 
versions of IOs 7, airdrop, bluetooth, and wifi are enabled.  We are in close 
proximity to one another, but neither of us is showing in the other's airdrop 
recipient placeholder.  We have tried both sharing with contacts only and with 
everyone. I have successfully sent him photos by selecting Message, but we 
cannot get airdrop to work. What are we missing?

Apple could not even help with frustrating airdrop issue

Apple is currently researching the inexplicable inability of my husband and I 
to share photos via airdrop.  We are using the same WiFi connection; Bluetooth 
is on, we tried rebooting; we are both signed into our iCloud accounts.  
Whenever we attempt to send a photo, instead of a list of available recipients, 
there is a message which says turn on airdrop to share but as it is already 
turned on,, this makes no sense. Sometimes, the airdrop recipient placeholder 
comes up, and just says image, with no name.  Tapping on it does nothing. If 
anyone has had this issue, or can point me to anything which might resolve it, 
I would appreciate it. I have been Googling like crazy, but can't find this 
problem anywhere.

Why isn't a movie downloaded onto my iPhone also on my authorized MacBook?

Hello all. Spent the past half hour trying to get a video on my iPhone, 
downloaded  from the iTunes store, onto my computer. I have tried syncing 
several times. The video is fully downloaded on the iPhone; I have movies 
checked for syncing, but it is nowhere to be found. When I check the movie 
grid, only two previously downloaded movies are showing on my computer.
When I go into my purchase history on the computer, there does not seem to be 
any choice for downloading directly to the computer.

Anyone experiencing these truly infuriating iPhone issues: dumped out of apps, inability to view videos or listen to podcasts in appps, etc., silence when trying to access articles linked in apps

For the past few weeks, whenever I link to an article on Facebook, Twitter, 
Search It, etc., VoiceOver starts reading, then goes completely silent and 
freezes. I am then forced to exit out and go back in to double-click on the 
desired link, which then acts the same way, or wait a moment or two for the 
information to load, which it does every so often. 
Also, whereas I used to be able, with no problem, to play podcasts or YouTube 
links from within Facebook, Twitter, etc., now I am shown that the track 
position is changing, that the time is elapsing, but there is no sound.  
I have tried running the battery down and recharging, shutting down the iPhone 
and restarting, closing all apps, then reopening desired ones to reach what I 
wish to read or listen to, but nothing is working. 
Often, I am simply dumped to the home screen after VO freezes me out.

Super frustrated with seemingly faulty iTunes syncing

All right, folks. I have no clue what I am doing wrong, but though my songs 
list says 491 on my iPhone, and my music library has over a thousand songs, my 
iPhone is playing songs when I listen to my music that should not be synced.  I 
have sync only checked songs.  I have iTunes Match off. I have the songs I 
want checked and those I don't unchecked. Based on the number of songs showing 
on my iPhone, I should only be hearing my selected songs. (Yes, I have songs 
selected in Music.) What on Earth is going on?

Voice to Voice by Sparkling Apps: Please Assist

Yesterday, someone posted about this app, stating that the developer seemed 
willing to work on making it more accessible, but that it was somewhat usable 
with VoiceOver.  I downloaded the app, and all I am getting is a list of 
languages, which seem to repeat, and does not even display all sixteen 
languages purported to be covered in the description.  I can find no 
description of how to use the app.  There is no speak button, no indication of 
how one chooses the language one speaks and the one you wish your words 
translated into.  I am finding it to be totally incomprehensible from the 
standpoint of accessibility.  If someone could please give me some direction, a 
podcast, tutorial, something which would perhaps shed some light on how to use 
this app, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

In Case Anyone Was Caught Off Guard When Dictating . . . . . .

Until I updated to iOS 7.03 last night, I always said “period”  when ending a 
sentence when dictating.  Today, I noticed, (luckily before sending a message) 
that the word “period” was there instead of the symbol.  This was rather 
annoying, until I surmised that perhaps I should say “full stop” — which I know 
is what it is called outside of the U.S. by most. That did indeed work . . . 
and I concluded this was happening because I always use the Australian or Irish 
English voices. But, as a test, I switched to U.S. English —  and it is still 
the case. Now I am trying to get myself in the habit of saying “full stop” and 
it is proving difficult. HTH if any  other Americans have been stymied by this.

Am I The Only One Having Trouble with the Latest Native Facebook App Update: Repeat Inquiry

I posted about this Thursday, but unless I missed the posts, there has been no 
response:
There was a Facebook update on October 17. Since that time, whenever I try to 
use the app on my iPhone 5, it dumps me out after a few seconds. The app 
switcher says it is still running; I go back in, and the same thing occurs.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I have tried powering my phone off 
and on. I have tried syncing with iTunes. I have left a message with Facebook 
through Report a Problem. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced 
this, and if so, has anyone found a solution until it is fixed . . . if it is 
fixed?
Facely HD is no longer user-friendly, and Echofon for Facebook is cumbersome 
and not handy for what I need to do on Facebook. Any other options if the 
Facebook app is not going to work? TIA.

Warning about updated Facebook app

Truly bizarre problem with Akinator Genie Game

Is anyone else experiencing their status information and keyboard keys being 
read in French while playing Akinator Genie? I've got English selected, and the 
app itself is speaking in only English with VoiceOver, but the status of WiFi, 
battery status, the time, etc., is being voiced in French with the VoiceOver 
voice. Additionally, if I have to write in a name because Akinator did not 
guess it, anything spoken by VoiceOver, such as the shift key, delete key, 
changing letters to numbers and vice versa,  etc., is not in English. I have 
tried closing and reopening the app, and also removing and re-installing it. No 
matter what I do, VoiceOver is speaking French for anything not related to the 
app itself while in the app.

Would appreciate knowing if I can upload n audio file to Facebook

I played around with both the mobile site on my MacBook, and the iPHone app, 
and cannot figure out a way to do it. I can only upload photos.  I sometimes 
can get a choose file to appear on the mobile site, but cannot find which 
button allows me to choose the file before hitting that button.

Focus 14 help

OK, all: I am playing around with a Focus 14. I have managed to pair it, but am 
ow trying to read the text of a Bookshare book with it, which I have in a Voice 
Dream folder. It is reading things like Bookmarks and pause but not the 
text of the book when VoiceOver is focused on it. What am I doing wrong?

Repeated request for assistance: Cannot Delete or Edit Posts on Facebook Account or Page

When on my MacBook, the more options menu is not producing any options. I 
have tried VO space, hitting return, and interacting with it. No luck. On the 
iPhone, I see no more options menu at all, and when I check the FB Help 
Center, the suggestion to press down on what I wanted to delete or edit did 
not work, no matter what permutations I tried.
I also could not figure out how to do it with Pages Manager, which according to 
Apple Vis is fully accessible. I would sincerely appreciate some guidance or a 
link to some tips. Thanks much.

Facebook app frustrations

All righty, fellow Facebook folks: I am trying to figure out why, and more 
importantly, if there is a workaround for the following issues:
1. Liking something sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. (I find this is 
true both on the phone and on my Mac.) 
2. When I want to see who liked a post, sometimes it will show me, and other 
times it will go to the one page of the last person to like. There does not 
seem to be any rhyme or reason to this.
3. When I check my notifications, on the phone, there does not seem to be a 
back button; am I missing something?
4. Sometimes when I want to like on someone's page because of something 
shared, I can only like the shared link on its original page, not on my 
friend's page.
5. There are times when I click on a friend's page to read further something 
posted, and the app does nothing at all. 
6. Sometimes I cannot get to the posted link, or read the comments. (I realize 
some people's privacy settings might not permit me to see their comments, but 
it is unlikely that this is true of all of the people on the larger sites I am 
referring to.)


Any workarounds, explanations, and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If anyone has used this with an iPhone, could you please contact me and give me 
your honest assessment of its ease of use, Braille cell quality, reliability, 
portability, etc.? I am considering it over the RefreshaBraille 18 because of 
the greater number of cells, and quite frankly, I don't know, given the amount 
of reading I do and the speed with which I am used to reading Braille, that I 
could get used to using a display with so few cells.  The Braille 40 seems to 
be the best buy for the number of cells I prefer; I imagine the Braille 80 
would be too unwieldy for true portability. I would also like to know about how 
easy it is to get customer  assistance and repairs, if needed.

Anyone else having trouble downloading Voice Dream Reader update?

I tried downloading it the other day, and received a message that it could not 
be downloaded at this time.  I have tried multiple times since then, and 
receive the same message.  When I go into the app store, it says installing 
but when I look at the Voice Dream icon on my screen, it says 5 percent.  
When I open the app, it tells me it cannot be downloaded at this time, and to 
try again later.  I have tried syncing my phone,   but this has not helped.  I 
am concerned about removing and reinstalling, as I will likely then have to 
reenter all of my information. Any suggestions or similar experiences are 
appreciated. TIA.

Is there a way to have more than one Twitter account on Status report?

account, but when I tap add account there does not appear to be a way to have 
more than one Twitter account. If anyone knows differently, I would appreciate

Hbo go problem: can't add all season episodes to watch list

I have tried multiple times to add certain episodes  of a certain program to my 
watchlist on HBO go.  however, it seems that I can only add odd-numbered 
episodes. I tried tapping on the title, and I tried  tapping on the number, but 
nothing seems to work. I have to get sighted assistance to add the 
even-numbered episodes. Can anyone help with this? Thank you.

Facebook Frustration Revisited: Is It My Imagination, or . . .

Have both the iPhone FB app and the mobile site morphed  yet again into 
something unnecessarily problematic for those of us who use VoiceOver? I know 
several here have said that with some patience, they are usable, but you know 
what? I should not require any more patience and time to figure out the latest 
changes than the average sighted user, and I am about ready to deactivate my 
account. Much smaller companies with significantly fewer resources can make 
their apps and sites easily accessible  -- why not Facebook? It is more 
principle than anything else at this point. I have gone from using FB daily 
when I first joined, keeping up with far-flung family and friends, to feeling 
as if it is a chore each time. I doubt that is the user experience most 
companies are striving toward.

Seven LIttle Words Driving Me Crazy: Help, Please!

Weeks ago, I made peace with this app's semi-accessibility, because I am so 
addicted to it.  However, since last night it is driving me nuts.
Each time I attempt to purchase one of the fifty-puzzle packs, since I have 
completed Sunrise and one that I purchased previously (with no problem), it 
offers me a game I have already played. I cannot seem to order new puzzles, and 
I cannot figure out how to stop the app from offering games I have already 
played; I am not double-tapping on any of the numbered puzzles.
As an aside, has anyone figured out if there is a way, without entering the 
game, to remember if you have played one already? I go in order, but sometimes 
mess up. Thanks.

Extreme iTunes Frustration: Since Before iTunes 11

Hello all. I am really steamed with iTunes, like never before. Before 11 came 
out, as I have done since the beginning of time with iTunes and the iPhone 
(from my perspective, that is) I manually managed my material, and checked and 
unchecked for syncing at will. It worked fine, once I got the hang of it.
Before 11 came out, I made some changes to my library, and synced. Nothing  
changed. I tried again. Nothing. After iTunes 11, I tried again, but no luck. I 
am at my wit's end. I have no idea how to remedy this. Not a single change is 
taking.
In addition, I downloaded two songs from the iTunes store to my phone yesterday 
afternoon, and when I attempt to play them, the next song in the alphabetical 
list of songs, or the next song by the same artist, depending on whether I have 
songs or artists checked, plays. They are listed, but they are not playing. I 
tried syncing -- same result.

Why does unfriend not show up as an option for every friend on Facebook app?

I am trimming down my FB friends, and I am noticing that for no discernible 
reason, the unfriend option is not available for some people. Rather than the 
usual options when I select friends, I get mutual friends and friends of . 
. .  insert name of selected friend. There does not seem to be a way to 
unfriend these individuals. Any ideas?

Could those of you who have strong opinions in favor or against particular 
Braille displays for the iPhone please send me emails privately? Also, if 
anyone has a link or two to a comprehensive review and comparison of Braille 
displays for the iPhone, could you please send this? I've been looking all 
over, and there seems to be a very scattered bunch of articles and reviews, and 
seeking particular information about various devices seems to bring me only to 
their manuals or to the sites of those trying to sell them, which of course is 
not helpful if one wants critical reviews. I have no desire to invest until 
I've gotten all of the information I can.

Want to redownload HQ Voice, But can't remember how

Went into settings, general, and international. Australian English is selected, 
but the voice is compact, and I want HQ. How do I change this, and redownload?

Destino Games: Cannot Save Frozen Games

After one hits f to freeze a game, one is asked for a filename.  I have tried 
all manner of iterations, but nothing I do is accepted, and I therefore am 
unable to save games, and must start over from scratch each time. Can anyone 
shed light on what needs to be done, please? TIA.

Has anyone ever gotten  this? Wrote to bookshare.org, but figured I would check 
here to see if anyone has experienced this and what was done about it. My 
membership is active, and I have no notices about limits or anything similar. 
(Got it while trying to download a newspaper.)

I am not receiving the request error user account does not have permissions 
to perform this action on the Mac, and on the main site. Downloaded without a 
hitch there, so it isn't a limits issue. It's strictly an app issue, it 
appears. I did close the app, then reopen and tried again, and also shut off 
the phone, turned it back on, and tried again. No luck.

Where Did the My Groupons Section Go On the Groupon App?

Hey, all. I am stymied. After the latest Groupon app download, the My 
Groupons feature seems no where to be found. This app used to be almost 
perfectly accessible, but losing this feature is a real pain,  since it allows 
one to bring up Groupons at establishments without having to print them out at 
home first. I cannot find it -- I have asked someone sighted to search for it, 
and he, too, could not figure out where it went. Does anyone know? :) 
(I did write to Groupon Support, but there has been no response as of this 
time.)
