Re: Amazon app now inaccessible?
Know what you mean. I liked the older layout better when they had the tabs along the bottom and the searchbox was easier to find, but now you have to go looking for the searchbox, and as you say, the buttons for menu etc are all over the place. You can only find stuff like basket and wishlist once you go into the menu button now. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Accessibility Issue With The Dominos Pizza App
Hellow, I would not like to recommend the above app for dominos pizza. Don't know. Re: Accessible games for iPhone
It depends what kind of games you're looking for. I've mainly got word games on my iPhone, but do also have Lost Cities which is a card game and bubble island which I think is a facebook game. I do also have Slap Game or whatever that bopit thing is called, but the score isn't read by voiceover sadly. Mudding is rather pointless on the iPhone, unless you have a bluetooth keyboard, and even then, I don't believe the mud clients have sounds, although I could be wrong as I haven't used any mud clients on the iphone for a long while. I do not use a screen protector. The Tech21 cases are unique in their protection over all other cases, they add all but nothing by way of weight and mass to your device, only about a few mil each side, yet they protect in a amazing way. Tech21 use D3O impact technology, which is a revolutionary material invented by the military to protect things, its now found in extreme sports wear and other things like that… Basically, its coloured orange if you can see anything, not the case mark you, just the D3O which of course is inside the case away from view. What it does is spread the energy from an impact across the whole case dispersing it. The material is relatively hard when in its relaxed state, though upon impact it becomes a soft gel like substance. I have broken a number of iOS devices before I started using these cases, and can tell you now that they are both designed well, Aesthetically pleasing, but, importantly add a whole load of protection without bulking up the device. Re: Tax exemptions, was: You can by apple products in the UK VAT free if your blind.
Don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but I've heard that all the apple products blind people in the UK can be exempt from VAT or whatever it is if they buy fom the Apple stores. All their products except the iPhone itelf apparently. I don't know why or if it's true, but that's just what I was told by a friend a few days ago. On 31 Dec 2012, at 5:34 PM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: Hi List, The topic about taxes on Apple products especially in the UK where there is a very high VAT has come up again and again over the last couple of months. I just wanted to comment that it should be up to organisations like the RNIB in the UK, the CNIB in Canada, the NFB in the States and so on to sort this out with the government. In a way I would argue that even though a Mac or an iPhone is not specifically made for the blind, Apple has invested a lot of money and effort to make it into a device for the blind and, as a rule, a much less expensive device than products specifically designed for the blind. This could be easily regulated by setting straight forward rules for when a person could obtain a tax exemption, e.g. it could be done by providing a certificate from a Doctor stating that the person really is blind and entitled for the exemption. You would then take this to the Apple Store to get your product without paying taxes. Regards, Sieghard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. You can either double tap edit in the top right of the screen then select the e-mails you want to get rid of, then double tap delete n the bottom left of the screen. If you don't want to do that, you can swipe up or down on each e-mail which changes between delete or default. On the delete action, just double tap and it will delete it. Alex, I suspect I'm afraid that it is the wrong way around at Apple's stores. HMRC are correct, their articles state so, their people state so, the RNIB web-site states so, my experience and understanding states so, as do my qualified certified auditors. Apple will just be getting confused. they've likely been told by a client and its gone around like Chinese whispers. I will though, for good measure ring one of these Apple stores in question to see what they have to say. As stated though in my earlier detailed message, the case speaks for itself. When you consider the rules on nil rating VAT. The item can only be considered for nil rating where it is exclusively built for the blind, or, where a modification is done to it to make it usable. The modification is not a modification if it is a feature for all users, irrespective of disability. In this instance, every iPHone since the 3GS has had Voice Over installed, and as such, the phones are not nil rateable under these conditions. OK, now I've just phoned the three main London Apple Stores that I could think of off the top of my head. Two stated that they have heard of this, but, that the reduction of VAT is something that would be the responsibility of the customer to arrange, that they had no facility to lower their prices. Other than of course by the known discounts offered by Apple directly. So that clears it up, if you went and bought your phone from Apple, then submitted the relevant claim form to HMRC, they would reject it on the bases that you would have to declare that no modification has taken place to your phone beyond standard manufacturing methods and the standard product specification. Re: THINKING ABOUT A MAC!
I got a macbook pro just over a week ago, but don't want to install windows on this machine. I've been using it for mail, twitter, Skype and sometimes MSN, but setting up to play muds takes a lot of effort and playing around with the terminal. Pretty cool though once you get it up and working. Yes it was expensive to buy, but it'll be worth it, since I don't have a licensed copy of Office pro on my windows laptop and you can save things as word format with text edit on the mac anyway. /the only thing I'm not too sure how to do is make a table in text edit, although I did see something in the menus for that. Just a final point for now, I think the sound quality is better than that on a windows laptop. I can hear voiceover just fine at 55% on the mac I'm writing from now, but on the windows laptop, I have to turn NVDA up to 85 or 90% to be able to hear it properly. The only time I've needed to use earphones is when talking on Skype or playing games, because the tintin++ sounds are pretty quiet sometimes. For that though, you can use the earphones from the iPhone if you have one, since they're apple ones. Oh, I almost forgot to say, the software for the mac is either nicely built-in and very accessible (including the chess game), o else free or very cheap. If you wanted office for the mac, for example, you would only have to pay £89, but for windows version you have to pay over £400. The only real thing I don't appreciate is having the @ symbol on the 2 key instead of the ' key as it's meant to be in the UK keyboard layout, unless that's just a windows thing. Hope this extremely long e-mail helps, Harmony. On 22 Jun 2012, at 22:36, Jakob Rosin wrote: hi. i'm a very new mac user.
