Re: Moderate and minor bugs plus Accessibility improvements from Applevis.com

2020-09-17 Thread Holly Anderson
See, I don’t agree. I haven’t been using it long, but I like the feature. I
have it turned on, and I’m not having issues.

But if people are, that’s unfortunate and apple needs to be aware of the issues.

Hi, I was able to clear enough space. I deleted all media and apps from my

Re: New game: Galactic Colonies

2020-04-20 Thread Holly Anderson
Hi. Do you know if this game has the same weird quirk in game play that in
order to really get ahead you have to restart it several times. At least my
experience with Crafting Kingdom was that you could complete quests but your
reward wouldn’t take effect until you restarted the entire game all over again.
I never wanted to do this.

I found it frustrating for that reason.

 Hi Jan,

I'm not Richard but the Braille Edge is $2,495.00 if Hims still have any
to sell. If you are interested I have a Humanware Brailliant 40 which is
my dealer demo unit which has been lightly used for $1,100.00 including an
Executive Products leather case and shipping in the U.S.

Re: [EXTERNAL] Issues with Series 3 watch following Os Update

2019-09-28 Thread Holly Anderson
Hi. I actually kind of like the tick without the other sound when entering the
pass code, but that’s a personal preference on my part.
As far as the workout issue, there is a work around. When you are trying to
change the time for instance, the picker does not work, but if you turn the
digital crown slowly you can increment the picker.

Re: an Uber eats problem

2019-07-18 Thread Holly Anderson
Uber eats support is atrocious. I had an issue where my card didn't get
charged. And I was trying to resolve it with them, and I kept working with
support for a day and a half, and it was like they weren't even reading my
messages. They would respond with, it looks like you have a pending payment,
and I'm like yes, I know, that's what I said in my message. Finally after a day
and a half, I just used my paypal, and got past it. I also have the voiceover
issues described. My boyfriend does too, he contacted them on twitter and they
told him to reset network settings. Yeah, that's not going to fix it. So yeah,
uber eats support is horrid! Its a shame the app is broken, it used to work so
well. And as someone who likes to customize my order, its the best app for
that. When it doesn't crash that is.

Hi, it’s a stand alone documentary, but she is going to release it on her
parallel podcast feed. Not sure of the url off the top of my head. but if you
search for parallel podcast in your pod catcher of choice that should get you
there. It’s not there yet, but will be soon.

The orbit has something called buffer mode which allows you to type text and
then send it to the iPhone. It can only be 255 characters I think, something
like that.

Re: Air pods and multi point?

2018-11-04 Thread Holly Anderson
The problem that I have, and judging by this list I know I”m in the minority,
is that I really really do not want my watch to connect to my AirPods. Ever. I
don’t listen to music on it, and I never want to hear voiceover in my ears from
it. So the behavior as it stands now really works for me. But I can understand
why others would find it annoying.

This article from Access World talks about autoscroll and I would
recommend reading the other articles that preceded this one to get good
information about a variety of braille displays.

Keeping It Portable: Comparing Braille Displays on iOS Devices, Part III

 Scott Davert

In Part I of this series
, we took a look at four braille displays that carry out functions related
to an external device. However, some people may wish to have an integrated
 suite
of productivity applications for basic tasks such as reading books, taking
notes, performing simple calculations, etc., along with that connectivity.
 This
article will look at the internal functions of both the VarioUltra and
Actilino as they relate to iOS devices.

 The Actilino

The Actilino is a 16-cell braille display manufactured by Help Tech,
formerly known as Handy Tech. Like the VarioUltra, it has a lot of
 functions beyond
being able to connect to external devices. It is shaped like a rectangle,
with a tapered edge at the front. Placing the device in front of you, with
 its
downward-sloping edge nearest you, you will find a speaker on the front
left, a Micro SD slot (used with internal functions), and a second speaker
 on the
right front side. Starting with the keys closest to you, from left to
right, you have the first of two rectangular-shaped Spacebars, a joystick,
 and the
second Spacebar. While the joysticks on both displays are round, the
VarioUltra's is almost flush with the display's surface, while the
 Actilino's has
a higher profile, and is thinner. Behind this, you will find a depression
that contains 16 cells of braille with a three-way rocker button at each
 end
(these rocker buttons are referred to as "triple-action keys" in the
manual). Each button can be pressed upward, downward, or straight down.
 Behind the
16 cells of braille, and level with the upper part of the rocker buttons,
are 16 cursor routing buttons that are raised slightly higher than the
 depression
that contains the cells. Behind the cursor routing buttons, and on an
elevated surface, is the Perkins-style keyboard. Like the VarioUltra,
 these keys
are configured with special attention paid to ergonomics. Unlike the
VarioUltra, between Dots 1 and 4, you will find an internal microphone. On
 the back
of the Actilino, there is a magnet, though it's not tactilely discernable
unless the display is in the case. The magnet ensures the Actilino stays
 securely
 within the carrying case.

On the left side of the Actilino, the port closest to you is a 3.5 mm
headphone jack. The port located behind the headphone jack is used for
 charging,
connecting to USB enabled external devices, and sending and receiving
data. Along the right side, closest to you is the round Power button
 followed by
a Type A USB port for plugging in external keyboards. The Actilino is
longer, heavier, and wider than the VarioUltra, weighing in at 14 ounces,
 but that
added weight and size translate into added functionality.

 Connecting to iOS

For the first 15 minutes that the Actilino is powered on, Bluetooth is
activated. If you have had the device on for more than 15 minutes

Re: iOS kindle app and braille display

2018-04-21 Thread Holly Anderson
Hello mark, I have the speech always muted if I'm reading with a braille
display. I tried making the font as small as possible, and nothing works. It
happens when it goes to the next page naturally, or when I turn the page. Its
very frustrating.

Hi, on the left bottom corner of the keyboard is the peek button. You then tap
the letter you want revealed and then at the top right of the screen is the
reveal button. Tap this, it will fill in the blank letter with the right

braille screen input and messages

2015-04-11 Thread Holly Anderson
Hi all. I’m having a lot of issues using braille screen input and messages. I
think from my testing that it has to do with the proximity sensor, but I don’t
really want to turn that off. Other people don’t seem to be having this issue,
can anyone else confirm or deny this as an issue? Or has anyone figured out a
work around short of turning off the raise to listen feature, which I’d rather
not do unless I have to. I don’t use it all that often, but I do find it useful
sometimes.

Yes, the 6+ is HUGE and THIN! Well, not really huge, I suppose, but huge in
comparison with my 5 and 5S. I think it will be okay. It will give me a
better opportunity to find things on the screen. Since I carry a fanny-pack
around all the time with both phones and an assortment of those little
Motorola hx550 bluetooth earphones and whatever else I may need, the size
shouldn't be an issue for me. But honestly, I think those with pockets may
want to look for a different carrying alternative, especially if your 5 or 5S
fit perfectly but with not much room to spare. It's also definitely thinner
and, one thing I hadn't known, the power button is placed differently. If I'm
identifying correctly (it's still restoring from my iPhone 5 backup and
syncing so I haven't locked/unlocked yet), the power button is not on the top
right corner any more. Instead it is down the side a bit, the opposite side
from the mute switch and volume buttons. It definitely has a different
footprint from the 5 and 5S and most certainly from the 4S, but I think I
will like it very much once I get used to it. I don't think the increased
size makes it clunky; it still feels pretty to me.

Hi, I found an interesting one tonight. I’m looking for grocery stores as
well. You might’ve gotten this suggestion already, but grocery pal is pretty
cool. You can search for stores in your area by zip code, and you can put in
other cities around you and make a list of stores. In each store, the specials
are sorted into categories. I haven’t had a huge chance to play with it yet,
but it looks really cool so far.

ibooks? I did some preliminary research, and I'm thinking no, but I just
wanted to make sure. People who have this display, have you found a
comfortable way to constantly hit the pan right button, I feel like its
twisting my hand in knots to try and do it. Any tips for using ibooks would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Refreshabraille 1i

2014-05-09 Thread Holly Anderson
Hi all, I'm very lucky in that I'm going to be able to get a braille display.
I am looking at the refreshabraille. I was just wondering if anyone has this
display and would recommend it. Obviously I know its kind of small, but I sort
of need to stay under the $2000 mark. Any thoughts positively or egatively
would be appreciated.
Thanks,\

Re: Direct TV app

2014-03-13 Thread Holly Anderson
Hi, I use the app for browsing the guide, and recording shows with my DVr. I
also use it to browse my playlist on my DVR. Those things all work. I don't
use it to watch any of the streaming content, so I can't speak to how well that
works. Sometiems its necessary to turn off voiceover tap the screen then turn
it back on. When you first run it, the app may look inaccessible, there's a
button in the left hand corn that is unlabeled that will open a menu. Then
your choices are on the screen. Hope this makes some sense.

 Hi, all,

Does anyone know if there is an iPhone word game based on the old TV game
show called Chain Reaction? It was a word game where the contestants had to
think of word relations. For example, a chain might start with the word
“cat”. A relation might be the word “fur”. The next relation might be the
word “coat” and so on up to seven word relations.

 Thanks

the bathroom the long way, or do 20 side leg lefts. For the exercises,
there's a button you can use to get instructions, and for the exercise I

that clarity of the instructions, I don't think seeing the pictures will be

Re: iAssociate 2 problem with edit boxes and the virtual keyboard

2012-12-01 Thread Holly Anderson
the way I've seen to get around this problem is that the edit box is not on the
screen. If you go to the next page with a 3 finger swipe to the left, you
should find the edit box on that page and be able to double tap it normally.

Hi, you might want to try looking at your channel settings. I personally don't

Hello Everyone, The following was just posted to the Candle Shore BLOG:

TIP: How Blind And Low Vision IOS 6.0 Users Can Work With Photos Received
 Via SMS

 Hello Everyone,

I accidentally deleted the original question that was posted on this subject
but I want to offer an answer regarding how blind and low vision iOS 6.0
users can work with photos received via SMS.

 NOTE 1:
VoiceOver is Apple's software screen reading solution for the blind and low
 vision.

 NOTE 2:
This document assumes that VoiceOver users are familiar with basic VoiceOver
 gestures.

With the release of iOS 6.0, there is a serious VoiceOver bug with regard to
manipulating photos received via text message. The workaround for this bug
may prove somewhat challenging for totally blind iOS 6.0 users but, at the
time of this writing, appears to be the only solution.

Scenario: You receive a photo via SMS and you double-tap on the attachment
in order to view/open/edit/delete/forward the photo.

Now, based on my experience, the photo will open in full screen. That is to
say, there are no controls with which to manipulate the photo.

All a non-VoiceOver iOS 6.0 user (sighted person) need do is to simply tap
the upper part of the photo in order to display the soft-controls necessary
to save, forward, delete the photo and more.

With VoiceOver enabled, there does not seem to be anyway of getting these
 controls to be displayed.

To my knowledge, the only way blind and low vision iOS 6.0 users can get the
necessary soft-controls to display is to do the following:

 1.
 Disable VoiceOver.

 2.
Single-finger, single-tap the upper part of the display screen. This will
cause the image soft-controls to be displayed.

 3.
 Enable VoiceOver.

I strongly encourage all voiceover users to send an email to
 accessibil...@apple.com to report this bug.

Re: Audible question -- Is there a way to find out how far through the book one is?

2012-09-27 Thread Holly Anderson
Hi, also in the info dialog you mention in the details tab. Once you move
past rating, where it says program type, if you keep listening it will say
program length or something like that. that gives you the length of the part
you are listening too. If you look at the slider which gives you elapsed time
and you look at the info screen for the total time, you can have some idea of
how long you have left.
Holly
On Sep 26, 2012, at 11:32 PM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote:

 Hi Ed,

Most unabridged Audible books consist of 2 parts, some have 3 or 4 and some
long ones have up to 6 or even 7. In any case, you would know how many parts
because you have to download them and if you are on the Now Playing screen
you can see which part of the book is playing, it would be the next right
swipe after the Share button and it’s the first of 3 pieces of information:
Title including the part number, Author and narrator. If you swipe left from
the bottom it will go from Play to Jump Back, then narrator, author and title
with part number. So, once you know which part of the book is playing you can
check at the top, at the very top left you have the book title once again
with a Back button, but this doesn’t announce the part. One swipe right puts
you on Info, another swipe right gives you the elapsed time of the current
chatper, next is the Chatper number and after that is the time remaining in
that chapter. Now, you can go back to Info and on the screen that comes up
select the very bottom right tab which is Chapters. Now you see again the
book title including the part number at the very top left, then comes the
Done button which gets you out of the Info screen and following is a list of
all the chapters in the current part. Each Chapter starts with the length,
then Voiceover reads, for example, Chapter 1. You know from the first screen
which chapter is playing so now if you once again go to the very bottom where
you have the Bookmarks, Details and Chapters tabs, swipe left once from
Bookmarks and Voiceover will read out the duration and Chatper number of the
last chapter in the part. Now if you hear, for example, 32:38 Chapter 12 and
you are listening to Chapter 8 you know that you have 4 chapters remaining.

One other way would be for you to know approximately how long each part of
the book is. I usually check how long a book is when I buy it since the total
duration is shown, so if I have a book that is 15 hours and 44 minutes long
and consists of 2 parts I know that each part is a bit under 8 hours. If you
check the Playback Position slider which is one flick to the right of the
chapter’s remaining time and just before you get to the Hands Free, Sleep
Mode, Narration Speed and Share buttons, the time displayed here is the
elapsed part of the entire part you are listening to, not just that of the
chapter. So if it says 5:30:32 I know I am 5 hours 30 minutes and 32 seconds
into that part and knowing roughly how long the part most likely is this
 gives me an indication.

You actually bring up a good point and I think I will include this into my
next email to Audible. I am planning to write them shortly to tell them about
the new Action rotor in iOS 6 and asking if they could not implement this
into the app in order to allow us Voiceover users an easy way to delete the
parts of a book. It would be great if we could just swipe up rod won on a
part and have a delete option just like in mail. I will also suggest that it
would be a nice feature to have a percentage indicator which indicates how
much of the entire book one has listened to. And in case you and others want
to write to them as well, I also would include the fact that while Voiceover
says “Download in progress” if you are downloading a part of a book, there is
no spoken information as to how much of the download has been completed. This
information is there for sighted users.

 Regards,
 Sieghard
