Swiping Up to Unlock Phone

2024-05-21 Thread Sandra Finley
Some of you have been most helpful by answering my previous questions in a
manner that was both supportive and logical. So I am encouraged to
acknowledge what I do not understand and ask another question.

My question today refers to the gesture of swiping up when trying to unlock
the phone using face ID. When I pick up my locked phone and swipe down with
two fingers, I get the time plus the words, "locked, flashlight off button,
camera button." Sometimes the words "swipe up to unlock" appear just after
the word "flashlight." The only thing I can do is a three-finger single
tap, which takes me back to the home screen. Then I have to type my
password.

What am I doing wrong? It seems that I have tried swiping up with every
permutation available to the human hand!!

Sandy,

I'm with Sieghard and Richard on this one. It sounds as if Focus has been
turned on on your device. Why they ever renamed Do not disturb to Focus is
beyond me but they did. Focus contains the ability to have various named
settings such as Sleep, Do not disturb, Work meeting, etc. You can check or set
up these under Settings, Focus. As Sieghard posted, you can check whether Focus
is currently turned on within the Control Center. I access the Control Center
by placing focus on something in the topline status bar such as the time and
doing a 3 finger swipe up. This will open the Control Center screen and you can
follow Sieghard's excellent instructions to check it.

Good luck.

Definitely sounds like one o fthe focus modes like Do Not Disturb could be
turned on. If you pull down from the top a little way to bring up control
centre, you can then check on the left side of the screen about half way down
where it says "Focus", if it only says "Focus" then it's fine, but if you hear
something like "Focus, Do Not Disturb" or "Focus, Sleep" this means the Do Not
Disturb or Sleep focus is is turned on and this would most likely cause all
your calls to go straight to voice mail unless you set up exceptions in
Settings > Focus to allow certain calls through or to allow notifications from
certain apps.

Also keep in mind that if you go to Settings > Focus, it will tell you if any
of the focus options is "on", but you can't turn it off from there, this has to
be done via control centre and I believe you can also ask Siri to turn a
particular focus on or off..

When I just went into Pill Reminder and accessed the Reminders tab, I was able
to set up two reminders at the exact same time for the two meds I had

to add all your meds and then set up the reminders for the times you want to
take them.

Could Not Delete Text Messages or Voice Mails

2023-05-25 Thread Sandra Finley
This message is about my inability to delete voice mail and text messages
and how we solved it. I am posting this in case someone else has this
problem. If you have not, feel free to hit the delete key now.

A couple of months ago I suddenly could not delete texts or voicemails. I
would flick up and down and all option were gone. Then I did an iOS update
and the problem went away. A week ago it came back.

A wonderful Apple agent helped me figure out that the problem was with the
rotor. There is a feature on there called Screen Recognition and it was
selected. We figured out that it kept unselected Actions, without which I
could not delete.Works perfectly now!

Speaking Rate in VoiceOver

2021-05-10 Thread Sandra Finley
In recent days, when I try to slow down the rate of speech in VO, it will not
change. The speaking Rate option on the rotor is most definitely selected and,
until recently, wAs working correctly. I am thinking that some weird setting
somewhere needs to be modified but cannot imagine what it would be. I Am using
an iPhone 8 with the latest version of iOs.

Outlook for iOs

2021-04-25 Thread Sandra Finley
I am considering switching from the native iOs e-mail app to Outlook. I am
testing it out now so I can make an informed decision. So far I have three
questions for anyone who has made this change.

  1. To delete a message in Outllok I swipe down. Sometimes my first choice
is Delete and at other times it is Move. If the choice is Move I swipe again
for delete. After that, /Delete becomes the first selection for three or four
messages in a row and then it goes back to Move. Does anyone know why or what
to do about this?

2. In the Outlook calendaR the only view I see is by the week. Can that be
changed to a listview by the day? or by events

3. What do you like and what do you dislike about Outlook for iOs?

Thanks.Sandy Finley

Home Screen on Instant Pot App

2019-01-04 Thread Sandra Finley
My husband and I were just looking a bit eat the app and I have one question.
On the screen that pops up when i open the app, there is a menu button. Again,
if i double tap, it does not activate. If we turn VO off and he taps, it opens,
and in there are all of the settings I have been looking for, like "my device",
etc. Why can I not open that menu?

Recipesonthe WIFI-enabled App for Instant Pot

2019-01-02 Thread Sandra Finley
I have been playing around with the app to see if I can make some sense out of
it. So far, this is what I know.

If you get into an individual recipe, directly below the recipe title there are
five toggle buttons. If you double tap on the one VoiceOver calls Basket,
you get the ingredients. Back out of that screen with the usual Back button and
then double tap the one called Restaurant and you will find preparation
directions. I got this result consistently with about twenty recipes. (See
what happens when one cannot sleep?)

My husband is going to sit down with me in the next couple of days and help me
understand the visual labels. When he does, I will tack an explanation on to
Terrie's excellent road map of the buttons and send it out. (We would have
done this sooner but let's just say lately we have been overcome by the events
associated with having a large family.) Meanwhile, HTH

WIFI-enabled Instant Pot app

2019-01-01 Thread Sandra Finley
I received a WIFI-enabled instant pot for Christmas and have some questions. If
someone who has one could contact me off list, perhaps we could share
information without cluttering up this list? I have some of my questions
listed below.

The good news is that I was able to connect the pot to our WIFI network. quite
easily. This is where the questions begin.

1. The app for the Bluetooth-enabled pot has a dash board that enables the user
to control the pot from the app. I do not see where to do that in this app.

2. When I open the app and jump from heading to heading on the first screen I
have the following headings:
Featured Recipe
Categories
Instant pot today
Newest Recipes and
Instant Pot Today.
Under Featured Recipes I find Cauliflower Mac and Cheese. When I do a
one-finger double tap and then flick right, I get
"Star Image" 4 times, followed by
"Star outline", followed by the name of the recipe's author, the recipe's
difficulty, prep time, and more. But where is the recipe?

3. When I go to Categories, and one-finger double tap on a given category, I
get inconsistent results. « Double tapping the Desserts button sometimes
produces a list of recipes.
If I have been in the app too long and pressing too many buttons, double
tapping the Desserts button produces no result at all -- I remain in the
Categories list. Closing and reopening the app solves that problem. But this is
not true of all of the Categories buttons; on some of them, such as Meat,
Poultry, and Pastas, double tapping the button produces no result at all.

Thanks for your help.
