I O S Calendar Frustration

2024-03-14 Thread danneyyates
Warning: this topic may cause headache, spontaneous rage and destruction of
one's technology.

I've been struggling, quite some time, with attempting to accept an emailed
calendar invitation. It looks simple enough, hit accept in the email and go
about your business, right? Heck no, I've done this numerous times, been
taken to ICloud.com where it appears I'm all done, but afterward when I ask
Siri about what's on the calendar for that date, she sweetly tells me
there's no appointments. When I go to calendar, and move to that date,
there's nothing, even though email told me it was accepted.

Frankly, I find the native IOS calendar to be very difficult to use.

Anyone have any tips? I've been to the phone's user guide as well as
AppleVis.

Best regards,

Dan Yates

RE: Be My AI and what it may teach us?

2023-11-13 Thread danneyyates
I'm loving the artificial intelligence breakthroughs. As for our facial
expressions, look at it this way, it is mostly a sighted world and most of our
light dependent friends equate smiles and attentive facial expressions in a
favorable way; regardless of the culture from which we hail. Find a person you
trust and get a little coaching if you aren't clear about it. I had vision
until around age 19 and recall the difference in how a person came across when
they didn't smile, as appropriate.

I do not want to know what some artificial intelligence thinks somebody’s
expression means. Cultural stuff hugely influences that sort of thing. And as a
totally blind person from birth, I can’t tell you how many times people have
asked me why are you angry? Because I’m not smiling. Apparently you’re supposed
to go around smiling all the time especially if you’re a woman. So I don’t
trust AI male centric and Eurocentric as it must obviously be, based on who is
making these glorious language models and facial expression models etc.I don’t
want it. I want human to human interaction, and never mind somebody else
assuming they know what I’m thinking because of how my face looks. I sure don’t
want to inflict that misunderstanding on somebody else.

I also tried both books, and although they both remained in the waiting
category for maybe a minute, they eventually downloaded. I have always thought
this having to wait it perhaps some kind of interface situation between Voice
Dream and Bookshare, or perhaps Bookshare sometimes just takes a bit of time
before it can send the book to VoiceDream. but I find it to be a minor

Hi Janet,

For some unexplicable reason 2 days ago my iPhone wouldn't connect to our home
Wifi no matter what I tried, so I reset the network settings and I haven't had
a problem since. When you reset only the network settings you'll only have to
enter in your password after selecting your network, and in Settings / General
/ About / Name, you'll have rename your iPhone if it had a name earlier.

To reset your network open Settings / General and swipe to the, Transfer or
reset iPhone heading, and keep swiping to the, Reset button, and open this, now
swipe to, Reset network settings, and single finger double tap this and follow
the prompts.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Go Dodgers!

Hi Richard,

I’ve done exactly what you are saying here, several times, but the Wi-Fi just
keeps losing connection! I’ve never had this issue before either. This just
came out of a clear blue sky! I hate the thought of having to reset my network
settings, but it looks like I might have to.

Try turning wi-fi off on your phone.

Reboot the phone.

Turn it on again and then turn on Wi-Fi.

If that doesn't work, then probably trying just reset network settings could be
the answer.

Also, make sure you are closer to the router perhaps?

Hello All,

Ok now, I see the different opinions about my question Wi-Fi downloading vs
cellular, so thank you all. Ok, my next question is does anyone have any
suggestions is how to correct my losing Wi-Fi on my phone running iPhone XR
16.6.1? It looks like I might have to reset my network settings for some stupid
reason, in which no one knows why. I have very good Wi-Fi download as well as
upload, and all my other devices connected to Wi-Fi are all working fine except
my phone.

Thank you all for any more suggestions!

more sales of the I-Phone 12 due to what they consider high levels of
radiation. As an I-Phone 12 mini owner myself, I was curious about this.
Anyone else heard of these type issues with this particular phone?

Siri dictation has always been doing this although it does seem to be somewhat
more accurate in iOS 17.

One thing Siri never seems to get right is the difference between "Flour" and
"flower", I can dicate "Pleas also bring me 2 Kg of spelt flour" and it will
always put "Please bring me 2 Kg of spelt flower".

English of course is also a ridiculously difficult language when it comes to
stuff like that, I find dictation in German is almost always 100% accurate
because there aren't so many words which sound the same but are totally
different. As for the above example, "flower" in German is "Blume" and "flour"
is "Mehl", no chance to get that wrong.

I try to 1: be in a quiet environment, 2: speak a little more slowly than I

to say in my head before dictating.

RE: things to turn off to save battery

2023-08-25 Thread danneyyates
I'll add that, to my surprise, locking the screen makes a huge difference. I
had to replace my 12 mini's battery and, since then, I've forced myself to lock
the screen, although it is a hassle, sometimes, to convince face ID to open it
and I often have to enter my code manually, but it has made a big difference.

Some ideas may be any of the following:
* GPS location
* Camera
* Apps which use a lot of resources, like Facebook
* This may be a good time to go through your Settings, , but I've seen a big
difference. Privacy and Location Services and turn off or set to "while using"
any apps where you don't want your location used.
* Another Settings item would be General/Background Refresh. Most of the apps
on my phone I have background refresh set to off, meaning when I exit the app
does it stay running.
This list alone would save a lot of battery, but each person has their own
priorities. Finally, while I'm not a person who constantly closes apps from the
App Switcher, I also keep the number of open apps to a max of 6 or 7. Sighted
people don't have the luxury of knowing how many they have open, unless they
count them all. I know this from observing my wife and how she uses her phone.
Occasionally I will need to use her phone with VoiceOver. I have opened the app
switcher and, no lie, have discovered around 40 aps open at once. No wonder she
is always charging her phone, :)

Warmly,
Wayne

Switch your voiceover voice from a siri voice to a voiceover voice & it will
stop the frequent screen curtain message. This suggestion comes from Apple &
worked for me.

DonnaSounds serious, have never done it, what would this affect besides

My iphone 8 does this all the time, and yes, its rather annoying. I think that
the particular app is refreshing itself or something. The screen actually
lights up for a second and then the screen curten returns again and the focus
is usually moved to the top of the page. This often happens for me on webpages
and photos, but it also happens in other apps too. I have no idea how to make
it stop, its just something that I put up with. You could always try
restarting your phone and or emptying the app switcher if it starts happening

AirPod 2nd Gen Question

When I got my airpods, I recall seeing something about being able to place
the phone in one location and listen to sounds in that location through air
pods from another, such as in the next room, etc. I was thinking I might be
able to do something like this by placing my phone near TV and getting some
increased volume through my air pods.

How do I get sound in a location to come to my air pods?

Well I know if you use one of the newer American Siri voices that’s what
happens but if you switch to a different voice do some experimentation and it
won’t say the letter C before the word though.

Subject: Problem with Siri

Hello everybody I hope you are doing well and I hope this email gets through to
you. I am having some issues with Siri in regards to when I invoke Siri and
tell Siri to launch apps siri’s response is the following: I'm still having
problems with the connection."
Anybody getting this?
I am on iOS 15.1 and I have reset all my network settings and everything else
seems to work very well except for Siri and all day this has been happening
even when I tell Siri to do something it still says the above message that it
has issues with the connection. Am I missing something? I have an iPhone 8 plus
if that tells you guys anything. When I tell it to launch Facebook for example
that’s when I hit the same response and also when I tell seri to open mail. I
can assure you that my home network is a very strong solid connection and if
everything else works fine Siri should work fine but Siri is not working fine
but everything else works fine so I guess I’m gonna have to do things manually
now. Either that or Siri is broken in my phone.

They update while connected to your phone at some point on their own. Every now
and then check under bluetooth more info on your Airpods and fbbick right until
you get to the firmware number.

It should end in 400.

Editing Home Screen

2021-07-30 Thread danneyyates
Hi everyone,

I have an iPhone 12 mini and have latest software installed. Because of not
having my phone locked when pushing it into pocket, I evidently triggered
edit mode and several of my app icons, that normally are on my first page of
home screen, are now shifted to other pages, some even into folders.

I've tried doing edit mode, holding my finger on icon that I'm wanting to
shift back and sliding, but it only goes to boundary of page and I'm unable
to figure out how to move it further.

Can anyone share wisdom on how to go about moving the icon to another page
of the home screen?

Thanks,

Dan

None of the frames would really come close to rayban aviator sun glasses,

The closest would be the sports / tempo model of the glasses,

Tenor are more squarish
Rondo are round like old granny glasses, Serprano are more tear drop shaped
sort of flicking up in to a wing kind of shape at the outer corner of the eyes,
These are more a womens glasses,

The closest

RE: Siri Not Working?

2021-03-16 Thread danneyyates
I've had this occur a few times with my IPhone 12 mini and had to shut off
phone, and Siri was back when I restarted phone. .

Subject: Siri Not Working?

A friend is having an issue with an SE2020. Seems that Siri isn't working or
talking. They said everything is turned on, but it's not responding.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.
