RE: Bug Resolved in Latest iOS Update: RE: A Question for Those Experiencing Siri Not Dialing Phone Numbers Beginning with Symbols

2022-08-26 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi Mark.

I originally ran into what I'll describe on an iPhone X. Since then I got an
iPhone 13 Pro Max, and iOS 15.6.1, and still have the problem, although I don't
think it's as bad.

Here's what I do to have it happen.

I use Siri to call someone in my contacts on my Watch. It works great.

I then decide to use my phone to call the same person I did on my Watch. I tell
Siri on my phone to call that person in my contacts. I don't know if it happens
every time, but often there is a long pause after Siri confirms things, then
the iPhone makes a nice little sound indicating I'm back on the lock screen,
which was where I started.

The only way I know to resolve this is to power off and back on my phone.

I'm almost positive this is iOS related, because I'm having the same thing
happen on both phones I use.

Anyone else running into what I am?

Have a blessed day and don't work too hard.

Kevin, Valerie and Jilly

Hello Kevin,

Interesting.

I updated to 15.6.1, earlier today, and everything is working as expected.

Are you using an 8 or a later model?

When you say that you are dialing numbers using your watch, can you please
explain? Are you initiating Siri on the watch and telling Siri to dial a
certain contact?

Hi.

I'm still having the issue where I tell Siri a name in my contacts, and it
sometimes doesn't call the number. There are only numbers in these, and it
happens if I dialed that number with my Watch, then try to do it with my
iPhone. I have 15.6.1, at least what I have is up to date.

Well, upon updating my beloved 8 Plus to the latest version of iOS, today, I
was absolutely delighted to discover that Siri will, once again, dial telephone
numbers that begin with prefix dialing codes as described in my original post

Beginning with Symbols

Hello Everyone,

I am just going to put this out there and if anyone knows of a solution, please
pass it on.

I have researched this bug, on the web, and a great deal of people are
reporting the problem. I, as yet, have not discovered a solution.

If the following makes no sense to you, then just ignore it.

In iOS15.4.1, Siri will not Dial Telephone Numbers that Begin with a Symbol

On some Wireless networks, one can selectively display one's CallerID by
inserting a prefix symbol sequence in front of a telephone number.

Please note that the prefix symbol sequence continues to function as expected
when one manually selects the phone number from the Contacts list or from the
Favorites page in the Phone app. The bug does not appear until one attempts to
use Siri to dial a contact, hands-free.

Steps to Reproduce the Bug:
1.
Create a Contact with a local telephone number that includes the prefix symbol
sequence of *31#. For example "*31#2125551212" (without the quotation
symbols.) This will allow the contact (John Doe) to see your telephone number
even when the show caller ID setting is disabled, in the Phone app.

2.
>From the Settings area, select the Phone app.

3.
Set [SHOW MY CALLER ID] to OFF.

4.
Say to Siri, "Call John Doe." Siri will respond with "Calling John Doe" and
the phone app will appear. After a few seconds, however, the phone app
disappears and no call is placed.

Hi Mark.

I've had what you're reporting happen on my Apple Watch as well. Usually,
rebooting my phone fixed that problem, but once I also had to reboot my watch
to fix it.

Hello Everyone,

As a follow up, as I forgot to mention this, in my original post:
Please note that this bug does not occur on Apple Watch. This is to say, Siri
on the Apple Watch will, in fact, dial a contact, as expected, regardless of
any prefix symbol sequence.

So, what I am currently doing, as a workaround is using Siri on my Apple Watch
to initiate a call, then, once connected, I transfer the call to my phone.

For me, this bug only occurs, on iPhone, when using Siri to dial a number that
begins with a symbol sequence prefix.

Hello Mike,

This is great news and thank you for letting us know.

I sent a very detailed bug report to Apple on this one but I am delighted to
learn that you have engaged an engineer for live feedback.

For years I have been petitioning Apple to allow users to toggle the Caller ID
display option for each Contact.

For the record, such an option existed back in the Windows Mobile days. It was
one of the first things I missed when I first switched to iPhone.

Hi Mark,

I just spent 3 days of going back and forth with a very understanding Apple
agent. He finally took the time to fully understand the problem instead just
shlepping me off and blaming my carrier like a couple of other Apple agents did
and blaming Apple like Verizon did.

Well, after escalating the problem it was determined it's indeed an iOS problem
and is supposed to be resolved as soon as they can figure what the hell it is!
LOL

Now, how's that for some positive feedback?! LOL

Stay safe and take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

inserting a prefix symbol sequence in front of a telephone number.

RE: A Question for Those Experiencing Siri Not Dialing Phone Numbers Beginning with Symbols

2022-04-14 Thread M. Taylor

I just spent 3 days of going back and forth with a very understanding Apple

shlepping me off and blaming my carrier like a couple of other Apple agents did

Well, after escalating the problem it was determined it's indeed an iOS problem

RE: A Question for Those Experiencing Siri Not Dialing Phone Numbers Beginning with Symbols

2022-04-13 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

This problem was the main reason I got a new phone. Sometimes I try to call a
number in my contacts, and the bug happens. It doesn’t happen every time. When
it does, I turn my phone off and back on again, and things work. For me, this
was happening before 15.4.1.

There’s something else my phone is doing. If I make a call and go to speaker,
the volume is lower than what I had it at. If I increase the volume, it gets
louder. I usually have the phone at its maximum volume for speaker, so that
shouldn’t happen. Again, this was before 15.4.1.

I thought my new phone had corruption from when I got things from my old phone.
Evidently that’s not what’s happening.

Whatever’s going on also is affecting my Apple Watch from time to time.

That’s what I know.

Have a blessed day and don’t work too hard.

Hey Mark,

This isn’t just a problem with special characters. Siri calling many phone
numbers for me just hangs and doesn’t connect. I think there is a wider issue
at play here than just special characters.
