Simon! If voice over says "no text visible", it is dollars to doughnuts that
simply turning the page over will solve that.
As for the advice about turning the page so many degrees clockwise or anti, I
ignore that because, from what I can make out, the camera will compensate for
that on its own.

Hi Simon,

If you double tap on the field of view report button it will tell you
information about how many edges of the page KNFB Reader can see and how skewed
your phone is compared to the text. This will be provided in how many degrees
off you are either clockwise or counterclockwise. Sorry, but I am running the
Ios 10 Public beta and KNFB Reader currently doesn't work with that so I can't
give you examples as to what specific wording is used.
There is also an option to turn on tilt guidance and if you have it on your
phone will vibrate if you are not holding it flat. You can try/practice this by
putting the phone on a level table. It should not vibrate. Now pick up your
phone and try to keep it level/flat. If as you lift it up it starts to vibrate
you know that you are not holding it flat any more. You can then try to
compensate and see if you can hold it so it stops vibrating.

RE: A new person that got the KNFBf reader

2016-07-31 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
As Richard said, there are several stands, but I would try and learn also to
use it free-hand since you may be in situations where it is handy to use KNFB
Reader and you may not have access to a stand. As with everything it is a
matter of practicing and getting a "feel" for how high you have to hold the
phone etc. For a regular page you don't have to go higher than a foot (approx..
as high as a 8.5x11 sheet is long). It also may help if you could practice a
bit with a sighted person so they can correct you until you have more
experience. The feedback the app provides is great, but it is not as good as
what a sighted person can give you. I always start out by putting my phone on
ttop of what I want to scan so that the camera is approx. in the middle of the
page. Of course this means on a regular page the phone has to be in the bottom
left quarter oof the page since thee phone's camera is at the top right of the
phone if you face the touch screen (it is just around the back of the phone
from where the power button is and a bit higher towards the top of the phone).
If you are scanning a single page it may help you a bit if you lightly fold the
page in half both ways, where the folds meet is exactly the middle of the page,
line up the top right corner of your phone at that spot and then try to lift it
straight away from the page.

Sieghard

There is also an option to turn on tilt guidance and if you have it on your

putting the phone on a level table. It should not vibrate. Now pick up your

Simon! If voice over says "no text visible", it is dollars to doughnuts
that simply turning the

page over will solve that.
As for the advice about turning the page so many degrees clockwise or anti,
I ignore that because,

from what I can make out, the camera will compensate for that on its own.
